Greta Thunberg has traveled to Paris after her deportation from Israel, where she has publicly said that she and other activists were “intercepted and kidnapped” by Israeli forces while they tried to deliver help to Gaza.
The 22-year-old activist for climate change was among members of a 12-person crew aboard the Madleen, a British-flagged yacht organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
They were determined to lift the blockade on Gaza’s seas and spread awareness about the serious difficulties facing its people, sending baby formula, food, and medical relief as they were at risk of starvation.
On Monday (June 9th), the vessel headed by the activists in international waters was stopped by Israeli soldiers. Greta Thunberg was seen in a viral video clip, where she said clearly:
“My name is Greta Thunberg and I come from Sweden.” If you see this video, we have been caught and kidnapped by the Israeli occupational forces – or those who back Israel – in international waters.
She implored everyone close to her by saying, “I ask all my friends, family members and fellow activists to demand our release from the Swedish government as soon as possible.”
The Israeli foreign ministry said the boat had been intercepted and supplied pictures of the boat’s crew members accepting sandwiches and water.
A further statement said that all the passengers aboard the “selfie yacht” are safe and sound. They were given preparations such as sandwiches and water. Their message on social media said that the show had come to an end.
After being deported from the US, Thunberg stopped first in France before going to Sweden, where she made another public statement about events.
She made it absolutely clear in her statement that we were kidnapped while on international waters and brought to Israel without our agreement. Photos released by Israel’s foreign ministry on Twitter showed Thunberg going through security when she boarded a flight.

According to them, the group’s “civilian crew” was “abducted” while they were trying to take essential supplies to Gaza.
Huwaida Arraf underlined that volunteers in FFC are not liable to be tried in Israeli courts, and challenging an unlawful blockade cannot be a reason for their arrest – they should be released right away. International volunteers belonging to Madleen have not been given legal authorization for detention by Israel.
Kan reported that, while some, including Thunberg, have been sent away, eight activists initially decided not to sign papers that would deport them. The ministry of foreign affairs said those refusing would be taken to court to have their departure from Israel authorized according to the law.
