Woman Falls into Active Volcano After Guide Abandons Her—3rd Day of Rescue Yields No Progress

Brazilian tourist has already become trapped in the volcano of Indonesia, Mount Rinjani, and rescue measures are in full swing since this is the third day when the Brazilled tourist experience spiral downfall

in horror filled nightmare. The 26-year old, Juliana Marins had fallen in excess of 1,600 feet into the steep crater ravine, after she had lost her hiking group,

an accident that was more outrageous considering the reports that her tour guide had left her alone to recuperate and proceeded on.

Juliana was a Rio de Janeiro based pole dancer and publicist on a solo backpacking trip around Southeast Asia, giving us a look at how her tour of Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia had gone.

The hike to the top of Mount Rinjani a snow-capped and active volcano on Lombok Island was also meant to be among the unforgettable visitations. However, Saturday morning things took a tragic twist

because the exhaustion made her stop on the trail. The leader of the group that was accompanying her allegedly encouraged her to rest after which she could still lead the rest of the tourists up to the top.

Hadn t they left Juliana? No, when the guide came back at last, she was gone.

Hours later, a drone showed she had fallen a good 1,640 feet and was stuck between near-vertical rock-walls in a gulley. At first, she did not respond and then started to scream asking people for help who happened to pass through. The Gunung Rinjani National Park service took off a rescue mission soon after getting an emergency call at 2:32 p.m. local time.

After three days, however, the rescue mission is still held back by severe environmental conditions. Fog, loose terrain, and extreme weather conditions have impeded the availability of helicopters, and rescuers

have retreated numerous times on the ground due to safety reasons. The search team so far has succeeded in descending some 250m which is not even half the vertical length required to reach her location.

The park has not been closed to the tourists even with the seriousness of the situation. Policemen have surrounded the evacuation zone without completely closing it, as it might result in climbers panic and logistical breakdown among climbers, who are already in the mountain.

The family of Juliana back in Brazil is devastated and becoming frustrated with what they perceive as the slow chaotic reaction. The feedback she has on her local government through the trickling information

she receives has been inconsistent as asserted by her sister Mariana. One report alleged that rescue crew reached her with food, water, and blankets but the family had received mixed messages that the rescuers yet to reach her because of short rope lengths and bad vision.

To complete the misery, the viral social media video of people claiming that Juliana had also been rescued after all turned out to be fake. Mariana was sure that the family celebrated and then came the tragic news that nobody came to see her, and her condition was still unclear.

The Brazilian embassy in Jakarta currently has been busy in coordination with the Indonesian authorities. The ambassador himself communicated with the National Search and Rescue Agency and the National Disaster Management Agency of Indonesia in order to follow the effort.

The case of Juliana has received tremendous media coverage. A Twitter account made by people closest to her to report the circumstances and demand assistance on the global scale has collected over a

million followers in less than 24 hours. These are messages and pleas that beg to speed up the pace, professional intervention into the account and the task.

Two experienced mountain climbers have also come to rescue, brought in on the request of the family who seek to help official search and rescue personnel go through the rugged topography and arrive at Juliana within the shortest time possible.

Meantime, the drone surveillance keeps monitoring her absence although on the edge of the ravine. At some point visuals were telling that she was no longer in the same position as where she was far earlier, and there should be new issues about her physical state and how to hang on now.

Now Juliana Marins backpacking experience which was initially jovial has turned to a time game, a family hanging on to the hope and a world in a breath holding stasis hoping that she would come walking out.
