My Husband and His Mistress Accidentally Got Into My Taxi So I Gave the Cheater an Anniversary He’ll Never Forget — Story of the Day
I was grateful despite being fatigued from working the night shift, until I looked in the rearview mirror and noticed my husband sitting in the back seat with another woman. I said nothing, already plotting his destruction.
I used to think that having Jason was a blessing.

I had a two-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, a five-year-old son named Jamie, and a solid career at a big corporation when he entered my life.
And Jason… He was charming, attractive, and homeless for a while.
When my friend moved in, I told him, “It’s okay, we’ll manage.”
“You don’t really know him!” she said.

He embraced my youngster as if he were his own. Already, that exceeds my expectations.
I really thought he was unique. I used my contacts to assist him find employment. With new suits, a new car, and a proposal a year later, he became “successful” quite rapidly.
“Abby, you can resign from your position. Pay attention to Jamie. “I’ll take care of us,” he said persuasively.
And I had faith in him.

It was a good life at first. However, everything changed the moment I stopped making money. Jamie started acting like “a problem,” “too sensitive,” and “not like a real boy.”
Additionally, I rarely saw Jason’s money. It was always “just hang in there,” “not processed yet,” and “on the card.” I said nothing.

Eventually, though, I began driving taxis at night when Jason was “away on business.”
Our downstairs neighbor Martha was waiting at the door in her pink robe when I arrived home late that evening.

“So, dear, how was work?” She stroked Jamie’s hair tenderly as she asked.
He had already fallen asleep, cradling her puppy in his arms.
I sighed, “Better than nothing.” “And you… How did it go?”
“Oh, with him — like with my own. My day will have meaning if you just give me a child. I never had grandkids, so Jamie is my little treasure.”

“Martha, you are our angel of protection. I couldn’t do this without you.”
She grimaced, “And that Jason of yours.” “Is he even aware of how difficult this is for you?”
I lied and said, “He knows.” “He’s just… preoccupied with his job.”
In actuality, though, he was occupied with something else different. Something that would cause me to reevaluate every decision I had ever made.
It was meant to be a typical shift. A normal call from a restaurant downtown. A man in a gray suit and a woman with shiny red lipstick came in.

When I looked in the mirror, my chest constricted. Jason was the one. along with his mistress.
Cozy as a honeymoon pair, they slid into the rear seat. I remained silent and drew my hood closer around my forehead.
“At last,” she whispered. “I assumed you were going to make another excuse about my son having a fever.”
“Ashley, not tonight. You were missed.

They shared a kiss. I resisted the nausea that was building in my throat.
“My parents want to meet you,” she explained.
Jason gave her a perplexed expression.
They promised to give me a house if they could see I was in a committed relationship. A fiancé.
He gave a little chuckle.

“So, we’re performing now?”
They have a very conservative stance. Since you’re going to divorce your wife soon anyhow, we won’t inform them about her.
“My favorite is you. My girl is really smart. I adore that about you.
Her voice became smooth.
“I was considering… two residences. One to rent, one to live in. It might be ideal.

Jason gave a quiet, happy laugh.
“Exactly. I’m leaving as soon as my wife receives the inheritance. There’s no excuse for leaving empty-handed. Given how ill her mother is, it will probably happen soon.
I held on to the steering wheel until my knuckles became white.
“Okay,” she answered cheerfully. So this weekend, I’ll plan a small gathering. A cookout in the backyard. We’re in if you just show up, smile, and say a few kind words.

“Saturday? Excellent. I’ll think of something at home.
I almost choked. Saturday. Our anniversary was that day.
On the same day that we met nine years ago, my husband had just promised to meet the parents of another woman in order to feign an engagement.

Furthermore, he couldn’t even recall.
I took them to a modest home with a veranda. Not ours. That was always where his “business trips” ended. Jason left without identifying me. made a cash payment. I never looked up.
He answered, “Thanks, buddy,” already grabbing Ashley by the waist.
I continued to drive. Watched them disappear behind the door.

After that, I sat quietly until my breathing became more relaxed. Then, without a word, I said:
“I apologize, Jason. However, you just lost this match.
A few days prior to our anniversary, I prepared dinner and lighted a candle on Tuesday. I pretended nothing was wrong when Jason eventually entered the kitchen.

I spooned stew into Jason’s dish and asked, “Do you remember what Saturday is?”
He hesitated for a moment, doing some math, looking for a lifeline.
“Anniversary… Oh! Correct. You mean the day we met?

I grinned.
“Exactly. I gave you the watch you still wear nine years ago.
“Yeah, of course,” I said.
I put down my spoon.

“I believed we could enjoy a pleasant evening. The old lakeside location. I have a reservation for eight already.
He shifted in his chair and lowered his voice.
“Well… Listen, it’s difficult on Saturday. I had to travel far away for a significant business meeting.
Then, as though recalling something crucial, he continued,

However, we’re not the type of couple that require dates to establish their relationship, are we?
I just nodded and remained silent. However, the piece had already been put together in my mind. And all of it was based on what I had overheard from the rear seat.
I didn’t take Jamie to Martha’s that Saturday.
With the green dinosaur buttoning up his favorite shirt, I informed him, “Sweetheart, we’re going to a party.”

He smiled.
“Will cake be served?”
“Better still,” I winked. “Ice cream.”
I changed into a blue dress from our first date that I hadn’t worn in years. I brushed my hair and put on some lipstick and mascara. I saw someone I thought I had lost as I looked in the mirror.

We got into the vehicle and headed out.
“Mommy, where are we going?”
“Darling, to meet some interesting people.” However, please refrain from publicly accusing anyone of lying.

Ashley’s home was larger than I had anticipated. There were already a lot of noises in the backyard. There was music. There was a griller.
I pressed the bell.
Ashley grinned as she opened the door and spotted me.
Uncertain, her gaze swept over my face before shifting to Jamie at my side. Her smile wavered.

“Well… Can I assist you?
I answered gently, “I was invited.” “By your parents. You may say that we are… close to a family.
She blinked. hesitated. Then, with a false, courteous laugh, moved aside.
“I’ll go get them.”
Over her shoulder, she yelled,

“Mom? Dad? Your visitor has arrived!
Outside, the music continued to play, but the foyer became quiet. Two well-dressed, perplexed-looking individuals came in.
“Good afternoon,” I said with a smile. I apologize for the unexpected visit. I simply felt that I should meet the man who is seeing your daughter—or, as I know him, my husband.

Jason came in holding a beer. His face instantly lost color and his smile disappeared when he spotted me.
I looked him in the eyes and said, “Hello, sweetie.” “Happy anniversary. I brought a present for you.
From behind my legs, Jamie took a quick look.
Hello, Daddy! “There will be ice cream,” Mommy added.

Ashley let out a gasp and staggered backward as if she had been struck.
Her dad’s mouth fell open. Her mom put her hand on her chest.
“Pardon me?!” Her mother lost her temper. “What just did that kid say?”
“Jamie, why don’t you go out back and get all the ice cream you want?” I replied softly. It’s a yes-day today.

Excited, he ran to the dessert table. I went around again. removed my wedding band and approached Jason.
Slap.
I simply put the ring into his shocked hand without striking him. It was more loud than thunder.
I raised my voice and added, “I supported you when you were homeless, broke, and couch-surfering.” “I provided you with a house. I trusted you. I gave you a son.

“You have a son?” Ashley’s eyes widened as she barked. “You mentioned that she had no children!”
Jason’s mouth opened, but nothing came out.
“Jason, what the devil is this?” Ashley’s dad whispered.
“They’re married? Wait a minute!” Her mom broke down in tears.

“I still am,” I said. “But not for very long.”
Ashley’s face was crimson in the face.
I turned away from Jason and told her parents, “I heard them.” He is awaiting my mother’s passing in order to obtain the flat. After that, he intended to wed your daughter, live in one home, and rent the other.

Like pyrotechnics, gasps sprang forth.
Ashley’s mother took a firm seat in the closest chair. I couldn’t just make out what the father was growling under his breath.
Ashley’s breath came out shakily.
“Oh my God. You introduced a youngster into this situation, and…

“Do you suppose I brought the kid?” I interrupted. “No, Ashley. Jason introduced the two of us to this.
And as soon as you made the decision to take something that wasn’t yours, you let me inside your house.
One final time, I looked to her parents.
I’ve heard that you’re giving your daughter a home as a present. Just exercise caution. Jason enjoys receiving presents. And he typically pursues the deed as well after obtaining them.

I pivoted on my heel after that.
Jamie, hurry up. These folks are already dealing with enough. Come on, let’s have some real ice cream.
I heard voices clashing from behind me,
“You son of a…”

“Isn’t she telling the truth?!”
“You pulled us into this lie, Jason?!”
“How could you not know, Ashley?”
“Wait, Daddy.”
“You’re amazing!”

I heard a glass break behind Jamie and me as we arrived at the car.
I didn’t wince. And I didn’t turn around for once.
Ashley’s parents appeared at the divorce hearing three months later. They volunteered to testify. Regarding the falsehoods. regarding the house.
Shame affects people in peculiar ways. However, in their situation, it became civility.

I was able to get everything with their assistance and some proof from my side job as a driver. Jason was left with nothing but excuses by the court.
My mother came to live with us. We bought a nice, sunny, and peaceful apartment close to the shore after selling her previous one.
It turns out that fresh starts are honest, clear, and crisp like clean glass. And if Jason ever promised me anything, I would choose that life.

Because the true luxury, it turns out, is peace.
