Jane Fonda Pays Tribute to Robert Redford – A Look Back at Their Lifelong Friendship in Photos
As she grieved the passing of Robert Redford, the man who had won her heart both on and off screen, the “Grace and Frankie” actress broke down.
After Robert Redford passed away at the age of 89, Jane Fonda broke her silence in an honest and heartfelt ode to her longtime co-star and dear friend. From the early comedy “Tall Story” until their last joint project, “Our Souls at Night,” the film icons had a cinematic synergy that lasted for over fifty years.

Fonda was one of the first to express her sorrow as the heartbreaking news of Redford’s death spread throughout Hollywood.
“When I learned that Bob was gone this morning, it really got to me. I’m crying uncontrollably. He was a wonderful person in every aspect and held great meaning for me. In a statement released through her agent, the actress added, “He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”

Fonda reminisced over their many years of friendship, their shared laughter, and the legacy he left behind on her Instagram. She shared a picture of herself with Redford and Iain Armitage on the set of their final movie together, “Our Souls at Night,” along with her tribute.
She recalled how profoundly Redford influenced independent filmmaking and how his performances enthralled viewers of all ages. He was not just a great talent to her; he was an America worth defending.
“Today I feel really depressed. cried the entire morning. Fortunately, though, I have a lot of happy memories of laughing heartily at his practical jokes. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have collaborated with him on two of his major motion pictures: “Barefoot in the Park,” which made me fall deeply in love with him, and “Souls at Night,” which was his final film,” she added.

Fonda acknowledged that in order to make amends and make sure they were at peace, she had wanted to travel to Redford in recent months. But she postponed it and wished she had gone sooner. “It’s important not to delay such moments at their age, in their late 80s,” she said.
“I’m grateful for all the joy you’ve given me over the years, Bob, my dearest. “Rest in peace,” she said. Many of Redford’s coworkers are in grief for the death of a titan of cinema after he passed away early on Tuesday, September 16, at his home in the foothills outside of Provo, Utah.

The loss was very personal to Fonda and served as a reminder of the value of cherishing time spent with those closest to us. Fonda frequently talked candidly about her love for Redford even before to his death.
She recalled a promotional photo from “Barefoot in the Park,” saying, “He is just such a wonderful human being and so handsome.” I fell in love with him every time we worked on a film.
“And I was always in love with Robert Redford – I made three films with him and nothing happened because I was married and he was married,” Fonda said in a different interview with “The Guardian,” expressing her adoration for Redford.

Fonda also talked about her initial encounter with Redford in a rare joint interview. Secretaries hurried to the entrance to see him go as she walked down an administration building’s corridor. He was born to be a celebrity, she understood then, and she subsequently exclaimed, “There was nobody more gorgeous than him.”
As they promoted their movie “Our Souls at Night,” Redford was ebullient about working with Fonda. Praising her as “a force,” he clarified that the trait was also present in her role in the movie.
He saw that she always moves forward without thinking about the past and navigates hardships and obstacles with incredible fortitude. “It is an admirable quality and I think, very few people have it like Jane does,” he stated.

In response, Fonda disclosed that she was partially inspired to take up “Our Souls at Night” by the chance to rediscover Redford.
Redford joked that time was no longer on their side, but he acknowledged that he would welcome the opportunity to work with Fonda again. He clarified that because they had already collaborated on so many films together over their careers, working with her always felt comfortable.
