If Obama and Trump went head-to-head in the 2028 election, here’s who would win
Here is who would prevail if Obama and Trump faced off in the 2028 election.
The idea of Donald Trump and Barack Obama facing off in a presidential contest sounds like something from political fan fiction.

However, we now know how Americans think they would vote if the two were to square off on the 2028 ballot, based on a recent poll.
“That would be wonderful.”
Naturally, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution precludes such a matchup. Since presidents can only hold office for two terms, both men are ineligible.

Nevertheless, the fictitious confrontation has drawn a lot of attention because Trump has publicly floated the possibility of a third term while Obama has said nothing about it.
President Donald Trump was questioned in April about his thoughts on challenging his predecessor in 2028. His answer? Unadulterated passion.

That would be wonderful. A excellent one, that would be. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, “I’d like that.”
When asked more, he added:
“I have a full tale about running for a third term, but no one is urging me to run. I’m not sure. I didn’t investigate it.

They do say there is a way to do it, but I haven’t looked into it and I’m not aware of it. I want to do exceptionally well. We’ve got four years. It will be nearly four years soon.
Trump has previously alluded to pushing the boundaries of the constitution. “A lot of people want me to do it,” he said to NBC News earlier this year. However, I essentially remind them that we still have a lot of work ahead of us because the administration is still very young.
He smiled and continued, “I enjoy my job. I’m not kidding, but I’m also not It is much too soon to consider it. There are ways [by] which you can accomplish this.

The fictitious figures are in
Daily Mail and J.L. Partners chose to test the waters with American voters even though the clash may never ever occur. The results of their survey of 1,013 registered voters were startling.
52% indicated Barack Obama would be their choice.

41% of respondents stated they would support Trump.
Dissecting it according to demographics:
Hispanic voters supported Obama 73% of the time.
Obama was also preferred by 68% of Black voters.
Most remarkably, Obama was the only Democratic candidate to defeat Trump in the fictitious polling.

Trump won when Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton were taken into account.
Trump vs. Obama: The Never-Been Race
Obama won reelection in 2012 after initially taking office in 2008. Following his unexpected win in 2016, Trump lost in 2020 and regained power in 2024, making the two men the most powerful political figures of the previous 20 years.

Even though their histories are closely related, they have never faced off at the voting booth. At least up till now in the realm of “what if” polls.
Is it possible that it will ever occur?
Right now, it appears unlikely that Obama would come out of political retirement or that Trump will run in 2028. Trump has repeatedly hinted at the possibility, but the legislation makes it all but impossible.
“I’m not joking… there are methods,” he stated.
Two-thirds of the House and Senate would need to agree to change the Constitution, and at least 38 state legislatures would need to ratify it.
Not likely? Of course. Not possible? Given the current state of American politics, it would be prudent to have an open mind.
