Former First Lady Reacts to Donald Trump’s Demolition of White House’s East Wing Facade

A wave of controversy has raced across Washington as contractors began dismantling section of the White House’s East Wing to make way for a new ballroom commissioned by the president, drawing a reprimand from the former first lady.

In her scathing response to X, former First Lady Hillary Clinton criticized President Donald Trump’s choice as a disrespect for the White House’s historic significance and reminded Americans that the White House belongs to the people.

The direct post was made as the $250 million expansion proceeded, swiftly rising to prominence as one of the most contentious initiatives in contemporary presidential history.

A Startling Scene at the Most Famous House in the Nation
Photos show heavy machinery crashing through the East Wing facade, contradicting Trump’s earlier claims that the ancient building will not be impacted by the renovation.

The Washington Post claims that despite security fence concealing the majority of the construction from view, the sound of demolition reverberated across the White House property.

As construction began, a few bystanders, including Secret Service agents, were spotted close to the Treasury Department stairs.

Trump Shows Off His Gorgeous Ballroom Designs

On Monday, October 20, 2025, the president celebrated the milestone by posting on his Truth Social, “I am pleased to announce that ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build the new, big, beautiful White House Ballroom.”

He maintained in that post that the ballroom is an example of the ancient estate’s refurbishment. He said that it would improve the building’s appearance and that previous presidents had long envisioned such a building, but only he had the foresight and will to see it through.

Trump said that taxpayer funds were not used to fund the project, stating:

“Many kind Patriots, Great American Companies, and myself are providing private funding for the White House Ballroom. Future generations will gladly use this ballroom! President DJT.

The cover of Trump’s Fury over Time magazine
The ballroom uproar isn’t the only headline surrounding the president. Additionally, Netanyahu blasted Time Magazine for a positive article that highlighted his involvement in mediating a ceasefire in Gaza on October 13.

Trump criticized the cover photo, saying, “Time Magazine wrote a relatively good story about me, but the picture may be the Worst of All Time,” despite the article’s praise for him.

He continued after that. He said in the same social media post that the picture made him appear unnatural by distorting his looks and giving the impression that his hair had been altered.

Donald Trump questioned the purpose of the cover shot, which featured him from a low perspective. He blasted the decision as being unsightly and badly done.

Modernization and Tradition in Balance
There is increasing discussion about how to strike a balance between modernization and preservation as the East Wing renovations and the new ballroom’s development proceed.

According to Clinton, the problem transcends taste or beauty. It revolves on honoring a historic edifice that has symbolized the American people for more than two centuries — and questioning the decision to change it so substantially.
