The ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ Family Years Later: Divorce, Accusations, and Estrangement

Few reality TV families have burnt as brilliantly or fallen apart as openly as this one, and what one of the kids recently revealed is going to rekindle all the wounds.

In 2007, Jon and Kate Gosselin let cameras into their Pennsylvania home. The turmoil and joy of parenting twins then sextuplets under one roof attracted a passionate following.

However, one of their kids is now writing about the tempest that was developing behind the scenes but was never completely depicted in the show.

From TLC Darlings to Tabloid Headlines The Gosselin household became a ratings phenomenon when “Jon & Kate Plus 8” debuted on TLC in 2007 and swiftly rose to the top of the network’s hit list.

Because of their accomplishment, Kate and Jon became well-known figures throughout the nation through books, television appearances, and public speaking engagements.

From the outside, it was the kind of celebrity that seemed unattainable.

Then came 2009. After ten years of marriage, Jon and Kate filed for divorce due to press rumours of adultery.

With Kate in charge, the program was renamed “Kate Plus 8” and aired until 2017.

Kate then participated in “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Celebrity Apprentice.” Jon, on the other hand, mostly avoided the spotlight.

The custody issue developed into its own protracted chapter in the years that followed.

Although two of the sextuplets, Collin and Hannah, later moved in with Jon full-time, Kate was granted primary custody of the children.

The causes of the change, especially in Collin’s instance, would subsequently give rise to grave and unsettling accusations.

Jon Addresses the Past and Addresses Kate by Name
In a 2019 visit on “Dr. Oz,” Jon finally spoke out about the personality conflicts that caused the marriage to fall apart.

Jon didn’t hold back when Dr. Oz questioned him about the fundamental personality problem.Jon remarked, “Well, I think it’s both of us, but I think she has a narcissistic personality disorder.”

He clarified:
“She seems to think more about herself and herself than about other people, in my opinion.

I believe that sometimes I think more about other people than about myself, thus I don’t always worry about my own problems when I should.

His remarks presented years of televised tension in a whole new light because the show’s meticulously crafted episodes never permitted this kind of disclosure.

The entire conversation revealed that Jon had suffered a significant personal cost as a result of the ten years of cameras.

Thankfully, Jon’s personal life progressed in a way that caught some admirers off guard.

He and Stephanie Lebo became official Instagram users in 2024 after meeting through common acquaintances in 2021.

She is reportedly a cosmetologist, a research and development scientist at AkzoNobel, and the owner of Belle Cils Lash Bar, a lash salon.

Giuliana, her daughter, lives with her and Jon and is about eighteen years old.

The couple tied the knot in front of 180 guests at The Barn at Silverstone in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on November 23, 2025.

“Before I met you, I never knew what it was like to be able to look at someone and smile for no reason,”

Jon said to his new bride. Because I get to age with my best friend and the love of my life, I feel like the luckiest man alive.”

He also thought about what Stephanie had sparked in him:
“I was not very sympathetic after my divorce, but she has taught me how to be sympathetic. She has simply improved me.

Hannah and Collin were the only two of Jon Gosselin’s eight children present.

Despite being invited, his other six—the twins Cara and Madelyn and four of the sextuplets, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel—did not attend.

As one of his father’s groomsmen, Collin said to Entertainment Tonight, “Looking at this moment and realising how freeing this is for him and how much he deserves this and how much she deserves this, that’s something I won’t ever forget.”

The Current Position of Every Gosselin Child
The sextuplets turned 22 this year, and the twins are now 25. Each is forging their own life with different levels of seclusion.

Cara is presently employed as a Leasing Credit Officer on the Healthcare, Education, and Not-for-Profit team at Bank of America.

She graduated from Fordham University in 2023 with a dual major in Economics and Mathematics.

Madelyn, her twin, graduated from Syracuse University in 2023 with a B.A. in English textual studies and film and screen studies with a minor in art history.

She periodically posts updates about her life on TikTok.

This kind of creative future was alluded at by a teenage Mady back in 2017 when she said, “I would love to perform in some way.” And I already feel like I could write a memoir of some kind.”

In relation to the sextuplets, Hannah graduated from high school in June 2023, started her own vegan and cruelty-free beauty company, Gosselin Girl Beauty, in May 2022, and is currently enrolled at the University of Miami to study business administration.

Since declaring at the age of twelve that “I’m definitely going to work with animals someday,” Alexis has mostly avoided the spotlight.

Aaden, who occasionally appears in Kate’s Instagram pictures, also leads a private life away from social media.

While Joel is an accounting student at UNC Charlotte who will graduate in 2027 and is actively involved in Beta Alpha Psi and Future Leaders of Accounting, Leah shares tidbits of her life on TikTok, where she has established herself as an enthusiastic reader.

“And just like that, they turned 21! Happy Birthday to my 6! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #GosselinSextuplets” was Kate’s Instagram tribute to the sextuplets on Mother’s Day last year. It had six hearts. Six children.

Sadly, Hannah and Collin were the two children missing from the photos.

Collin and his mother are totally at odds for a variety of reasons, despite the fact that Kate and Hannah are said to get along well.

Collin Gosselin Has Had Enough of Silence
Collin’s tale is the most significant of the eight Gosselin children, and it is currently making its way into the public eye in the most dramatic manner.

In 2017, Kate stated that Collin had “educational and social challenges” and that he had been placed in a residential program to “learn the skills he needs to be the best him he can be.”

Collin’s account of those years is much different. He has claimed that Kate mistreated him both physically and mentally when he was a child, that he “never had a childhood,” and that he was raised apart from his seven siblings despite living within one of the most popular television programs.

One of his most unsettling claims is that he was repeatedly imprisoned in a specially constructed basement room with just a bed and cameras while being zip-tied at the hands and feet.

Kate had him sent to a mental health facility when he was eleven years old after he was diagnosed with behavioural and psychiatric disorders that he claims he never had.

He has provided private medical records to back up this assertion.

Additionally, Collin has claimed that Kate “came to visit me once” for a mere half hour while he was in the facility.

“The entire time all she did was lecture me and tell me that I destroyed our family,” he said.

In a 2022 interview, he discussed what he thought caused the family to fall apart:

“I would like to think that it was due to television and the effects of being in the spotlight on a family.

I believe it broke us apart. We were able to spend more time in the spotlight and less time as a family.

From a Room in the Basement to a Marine Discharge
Collin tried to join the US Marines by 2024, but he was released before finishing his training.I was almost done with my training and about to graduate.

In an interview with ET, he clarified, “They looked into the paperwork and found out that I was, in fact, in an institution at one point in my life.”

“You see, they don’t require a more profound explanation. It is sufficient for [them] to release [you] because you are in an institution.”

And shortly, more information about what happened to him—at least from his point of view—will be available to everyone.

Collin shared a childhood photo of himself and the cover of his new memoir, “In the Shadow of Eight,” on Instagram on June 17, 2026.

“I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story … for years, I kept those experiences to myself,” was part of his caption. Some because I was terrified.

Some because I didn’t think I could be believed. And some because I simply wasn’t ready.

Writing this book made me revisit some of the most difficult times in my life, but it also gave me my voice, something I’ve been longing for.”

The book will be published on October 13, 2026.

Before Collin had even revealed the memoir, a long interview with Strange McKnights was released on June 27. In it, he went farther than he has ever done in public.

“I would like to invite my mum to do a lie detector test,” he said, directly challenging Kate.

And if you’re listening to this, Mom, it would be one of the questions we would ask about the zip ties. I want to get into every detail.”

“And this is where we are both hooked up to lie detectors, heart monitors, everything… for so long she’s been putting on this facade to the media,” Collin went on.

I mean, I had nothing to conceal even prior to TikTok.

A Mother Who Is Allegedly Panicking, a Memoir, and a Challenge
On the same day, Collin posted a headline on his Instagram Stories stating that Kate was “spiralling” ahead of the memoir’s release, despite the fact that the book is still months away.

According to insiders, Kate is aware that the novel will soon be released.

He used a filter to obscure his mother’s face and magnified a comment from a follower that said, “What’s done in darkness will always come to light.”

Fans have responded to Collin with an unbelievable amount of support thus far. “I’m proud of you for standing up for yourself and the truth,” someone remarked on Instagram.

“You grew into such a smart, handsome young man 😍🔥,” and “Always supporting the voices who are now loud – God bless you.”

Others said, “Collin, you have my admiration! You seem like a really intelligent and compassionate young man!” and “You look so good! Check your TikTok dm and continue to elevate and be authentic.”

Eight children and a camera crew were never the main focus of the Gosselin tale.

It was about what happens when a family’s most intimate moments are made public and what remains when the cameras are turned off.

The most important part of this family’s history is likely just getting started, with a memoir coming out in October and a lie detector challenge on the table.
