My Date’s Sassy Mom Interrogated Me on Our First Date — I Decided to Outplay Them
My Date Brought Her Sassy Mom on Our First Date and She Started Interrogating Me — I Decided to Outplay Them
Ronny is taken aback to discover Denise’s mother, Claire, going on their first date with her. Claire’s demanding questioning and costly requests throughout dinner expose their actual motivations. However, Ronny, unaffected and quick-witted, humorously flips the tables on them both.

I’ve been using dating services for some time, and I’ve gone on a few awful dates. The one I will tell you about is very exceptional!
A few weeks ago, Denise and I matched, and we clicked right away. She thinks my dumb jokes make her laugh and is charming and nice. I asked her out on a date rather quickly.
Despite our hectic schedules, they eventually coincided last weekend. We were going to meet downtown at this hip and fancy restaurant.
I was giddy with anticipation. Like usual, I was early. I have a tendency to want to be the first person there and leave a good impression. I observed the atmosphere while I waited—the contemporary furnishings, the low hum of conversations, and the gloomy lighting. Ideal environment for a promising first date.
Then she entered. She was not alone, though.

Beside her stood an elderly lady, elegantly attired, possessing a piercing stare that could likely pierce through iron. My heart began to sink.
“Hi Ronny! Claire, this is my mother.” Denise grinned broadly and replied.
“Hi, nice to meet you,” I said, trying not to show off how shocked I was.
Claire gave me a firm handshake that exuded confidence. “Hi, Ronny. I hope it’s okay if I join you two this evening.”
Through gritted teeth, I said, “Of course not, the more the merrier,” my mind racing.
My mind was racing, attempting to make sense of this strange circumstance. I questioned whether it was a test, but then I realized that she had brought her mother there as a fallback in case I was found to be a weirdo. Alright, it makes sense. These days, one can never be too careful.

Claire took over the conversation as soon as we sat down.
“So, Ronny, where do your parents work?” With her gaze fastened on me like a hawk on a mouse, she questioned.
I gave a throat clearing. My dad is an engineer, and my mom teaches. However, they are both now retired.”
“Fascinating. What city do you reside in? Do you own your home or are you just renting it?” She went on, without pausing for breath.
I answered, beginning to feel more like I was on a job interview than a date: “I live in a small house.”

“And what is your line of work? What is your income?” Claire asked a series of quick questions, each one getting more personal than the last.
I looked at Denise, hoping for some encouragement, but all she did was nod and grin, as if she was fine with her mother being questioned. Fantastic.
I gave a throat clearing. “I already told Denise what work I do.”
With a nod, Denise turned to face her mother and announced, “Ronny’s a business analyst.”
Claire nodded in agreement, then leaned forward to meet my gaze. “Ronny, you seem like a nice fit for my Denise. We’re used to living comfortably and taking pleasure in life’s small pleasures, you see. Money is essential for this.”
With a “I guess so,” I answered. Though I was beginning to comprehend the wider picture, I was dumbfounded by what she said next.

“We want these lobsters, by the way.” Claire reclined and gently tapped the menu with her finger. “It’s your treat, right?”
I turned to face Denise, convinced that this would be the moment she told her mother to shut up. Rather, she merely grinned at me.
This was not at all how I had anticipated it to go! Claire might have been a statue at that moment because she was obviously only interested in my money and Denise.
I was trying not to cry out of helplessness. Then a cunning thought crossed my thoughts.
It would be wonderful to play games if they so desired.
I grinned widely. “Oh, without a doubt! It’s lobsters, folks! Since I’m all about living it up, I assume you’re here to have a serious conversation with me about your daughter’s future, ma’am?

“She likes you very much, Ronny, and I need to ensure you’ll provide her with the sort of lifestyle she deserves,” Claire responded.
“I most definitely will. Money is no object because I make millions of dollars every month from investments my dad made for me when I was a child,” I remarked.
Denise’s mouth dropped as Claire’s eyes brightened. I had to summon all my composure to maintain a straight face while I carried on with my ridiculous fib.
“And if we get married, I’ll look after Denise. She won’t have time to work anyway because she has to take care of our kids. Of course, I’ll purchase you a house close to ours because I know she’ll want her mother to help.”
They exchanged a gaze that was equal parts delight and disbelief. They were all mine, bait and sinker.
“Ronny, wow! That seems really amazing. Did you hear that, Denise? A house of my own, please!” Claire drooled, almost suckling at the idea.
Denise leaned in, her eyes sparkling. “You’re too kind, Ronny. It’s unbelievable how fortunate I am.”

I smiled to myself, enjoying the suspense leading up to my big announcement. “Oh, without a doubt. I support providing for my family and leading an opulent lifestyle.”
Claire exchanged a look with Denise, no doubt seeing pictures of luxury racing through their minds. Claire got more excited and started making plans out loud.
You know, I’ve always wanted a beachfront home. Somewhere bright, with a large yard and room for guests. Perhaps even a swimming pool,” Claire thought, her voice brimming with expectation.
“And I’d love a walk-in closet and a gourmet kitchen,” Denise added. Whoa, Ronny, this is incredible!”
I nodded along, maintaining an earnest appearance. “That sounds ideal. You must, of course, first get to know my other spouses. Before we can advance our friendship, they must give their blessing.”
The mood around the table changed in an instant. Denise’s mouth fell open as Claire’s smile went cold.

“Excuse me, what did you just say?” Claire’s tone had become harsh and doubtful.
“Other… wives?” Denise echoed, a little shaky in her voice.
I nodded while keeping my composure. Yes, I’ve been married twice before. These are amazing women. Our family is large. Sadly, some children were excessively spoilt and had to be placed in foster homes; nevertheless, since you should have at least five kids, all will work out in the end.”
Their faces lost their color. Denise seemed as though she would pass out, and Claire’s eyes grew wide with terror.
“Five children?” Denise let out a whine.
“This… this is a joke, right?” Claire stumbled, her self-assurance gone.

“No, not at all. Really, it’s quite the lifestyle,” I remarked, trying not to laugh at their responses. “You’ll love it.”
Denise trembled in her voice. “Ronny, why didn’t you mention this before?”
I gave a careless shrug. “At the moment, it didn’t seem relevant. However, I felt it was crucial to be truthful now that there was so much discussion about homes and future plans.”
Claire’s shock gave way to rage. “This is completely ridiculous! How could you mislead us in this manner?

I crossed my arms and leaned back. “I wasn’t trying to trick anyone. merely telling my life. These are the things you should be aware of if you truly want to become a member of our family.”
Claire glanced at the bill when it arrived and then gave me a frown. “You are paying, right, Ronny? You do, after all, make millions.”
I leaned forward and grinned. Yes, women are valued for their power and independence in my culture. I wish to offer you this chance to highlight such attributes. I’m unable to pay for you.
Their expressions were a mixture of astonishment and indignation. Denise’s hands trembled as she reached for her handbag, and Claire’s outrage was evident.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!” At last, Denise spoke up, her voice lifting.
“Nope, not at all. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your power and independence,” I answered, getting up to pay for my dinner. “It was lovely meeting you both.”
I laughed out loud as I turned to go. I could hear them behind me, frantically gathering their belongings, their nervous voices becoming more audible in the once calm diner.
The crisp night air was welcome outside. I inhaled deeply as I thought back on the evening. What had seemed like a good first date quickly took a completely opposite turn.

By taking on an unforeseen task, I was able to outsmart them and reverse their conceited actions. It was satisfying.
Not only was it a minor win over Claire and Denise, but I also realized that I had advocated for myself. I had prevented them from taking advantage of me, and I had done it in a way that shocked and ashamed them.
Turning the tables on entitled people is sometimes the best way to handle them. It can backfire dramatically, as Denise and Claire discovered when they tried to exploit someone for their money.
I will always remember our amazing first date and the important lesson it taught me about speaking up for myself.

I couldn’t help but smile as I made my way to my car. For many years to come, this would be a fascinating tale. Not only was it strange and funny, but it also made me realize how strong and clever I am.
We rarely anticipate the lessons that life has to offer us. And that night I discovered that giving someone a taste of their own medicine is the greatest way to deal with those who want to take advantage of you.
The joy I experienced by surpassing them was worth far more than any elaborate meal or costly present could ever be.
