Hospital Stay Shock: My Kids Rented Out Our House on Airbnb — Here’s How I Taught Them a Lesson
My Kids Listed My House on Airbnb While I Was in the Hospital — I Found a Way to Teach Them a Lesson
Mariah checked herself into the hospital to get checked out because she hadn’t been feeling well lately. However, her children, eager to keep the money for themselves, made the decision to use her house as an Airbnb while she was away. Mariah made the decision to discipline her kids after learning the truth.

“Mariah, why in the world is your house listed as an Airbnb?” my friend Liz questioned me over the phone.
“What?” Confusion engulfed me as I asked. “What are you talking about?”
It’s Denise’s bachelorette weekend, so she was searching for a place to rent for the weekend when she found yours. You’re still in the hospital, right? She enquired.
I remarked, “Liz, I really don’t know what you’re talking about,” as I saw the IV flow disappear into my blood. “Send me the link to the site Denise saw.”
Here’s how I imparted a useful lesson to my kids:
My blood pressure has been fluctuating lately, which has led to occasional episodes of fainting.

Liam, my kid, stated, “Mom, you really should get it checked out. Purchasing medication over-the-counter just because you believe it would help is not worth your time. You must have everything accurately evaluated.”
And you should start eating healthier, my daughter Leah advised. “Eating toast in the afternoon, soup at night, and oatmeal in the morning is hardly a balanced diet. Your health is being played with. Now is the moment to act with seriousness.”
Leah went around my kitchen chopping veggies for a salad that would accompany the marinated grilled chicken.
And how are your ongoing headaches going? Now is the moment to get everything examined. “You ought to check yourself out completely at the hospital,” Liam stated.
“But I feel fine, other than the headaches and dizziness; I’m good!” I shot back.

My two children rolled their eyes and snorted at me.
Leah signaled to me, “Do it, Mom,” and pointed.
I had to give them my consent. Lately, I had been playing down my health. I continued to walk every other day and practice yoga as much as my body would allow during the workweek.
However, there remained a persistent sense that something might not be quite right.
Liz suggested, “Just go to silence that feeling,” after our yoga session one day. We met for smoothies.
“But what if we find something?” I inquired, feeling reluctant to express my ideas out.

“After that, we’ll handle it together. Liz remarked, “I know Paul isn’t here anymore, but I am. In any case, you must be ready for Denise’s wedding. I have no idea how to execute mother-of-the-bride duties.”
“I’ll go to the GP and take it from there,” I replied. “If he thinks that it’s the way to go, then I’ll do just that.”
“Yes, Mariah,” replied the physician. “I think getting a comprehensive physical examination is an excellent idea for you. There’s nothing wrong with simply understanding your body and wellness. Additionally, I’ll suggest a CT scan for your headaches.”
This is how I wound up in the hospital and how my kids decided to make the most of the circumstance.

“I’ll make sure you have lunch soon,” the nurse added with a smile. “You just rest after your CT scan.”
Saying “thank you,” I spoke. “I’m just going to call my best friend and catch up with her.”
When I caught up with Liz, I learned that during the week I was supposed to be in the hospital, my kids had rented out my property on Airbnb.
“So, what are you going to do about it?” After I established that the residence on the site was indeed mine, Liz questioned me when I got back on the phone.

“I’m not sure,” I said. But I’d like to impart some knowledge to them. Liam and Leah ought to have been more aware. However, Leah and her spouse are constantly searching for methods to increase their income. Andrew probably struggles with gambling as well.”
Liz bit something into my ear and said, “Tell me what you want me to do.”
“I want you to tell Denise to book it,” I said. “However, they’ll identify her, so she’ll probably have to make a new account. Is it likely that she will accept that?”
“Of course, she will!” said Liz. “I’ll do anything for you. But what happens next?”

“I’m getting discharged tomorrow,” I said. “However, the children believe that I’ll remain here through the end of the week. Thus, allow people to believe that they will profit financially from the location.”
“You want Denise to rent the place, but you want to mess it up?” Liz laughed. “That’s devious.”
“No, my children are devious,” I replied.
After I ended the conversation, the nurse delivered my lunch and prepared to leave me alone to finish eating while she completed her rounds.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure how I felt about my kids betraying me. However, it pained me to think that my kids were okay with strangers taking over my house while I was away at the hospital.

“What were they thinking?” I questioned myself.
People sitting in their father’s old recliner, or people drinking the mugs I’d hand-painted, had not crossed their minds. Even though Paul has been dead for a while, the chair still seemed like his.
“No,” I answered myself. “I’m going to get back at these kids.”
Notwithstanding instructions to reduce my stress, I was released the following morning with a clean medical record.
My doctor told me to “keep an eye on your cholesterol, Mariah.” “Eat lots of green leafy vegetables.”

I took my own car to Liz’s place, where I planned to wait for Denise to come over and give me the house keys.
“Are you sure about this?” While buttering a lemon and poppy seed muffin and preparing a cup of tea, Liz inquired.
Yes, I replied. “And this way, they’ll truly have to feel accountable for their actions.”
A few hours later, I returned home. There was something about the house that was unique. I could tell that someone else had been staying there because of the distinct fragrance.
The smell of sweet perfume filled my normally woodsy-scented home.
I took a long shower in an attempt to get rid of the hospital odor that stuck to my skin. I was eager to get into my own bed and sleep well.
Tomorrow was the fun part.

I prepared myself some breakfast the following morning and took all of the vitamins and pills that the doctor had prescribed.
I then started packing up all of my appliances.
“Where are you going to put everything?” I was asked when Liz was coming over.
“I’m going to put some into the trunk of my car, and we can hide the rest in the garage for now,” I replied.
Liz and I took turns cleaning the house until the old toaster was the only thing remaining.
Liz responded, “Come on,” putting her arm around mine. “Let’s get you out of here.”

I waited, staying with Liz, until Friday. That afternoon, I drove myself home after that.
“Hi Mom!” As soon as Leah saw me pull into the driveway, she exclaimed.
I said, “Hi, honey,” as I grabbed my suitcase from the backseat.
When we first entered the house, my kitchen was completely restocked with brand-new appliances.
“What’s all this?” I pretended to be astonished as I asked.
“Liam and I thought that you deserved new things!” Leah stated while glancing at the ground.

“No, you didn’t,” I responded. “You came back to my home when your guest was supposed to check out and you found everything gone.”
Leah gaped at me as she stared.
She asked, “You know?”
“Of course, I do!” I let out a cry. “I grabbed everything! Someone had to impart some wisdom to you. How come you will open my house?”
Leah took a slow blink.

“Mom,” she uttered quietly. “I truly apologize. Andrew and I agreed that it would be a smart idea because it looked like a fantastic way to earn some additional cash. As long as nothing was broken, Liam added, it was acceptable.

I gave her a hug and whispered, “Darling,” “This is not something you can accomplish. Come talk to me about money if you and Andrew need it. Avoid actions such as these. Our faith will be destroyed by it.”
With a smile, my daughter grabbed my purse from me.

She said, “Come on.” “I’ll use the new kettle to brew you some tea. Tomorrow, I’ll return everything else. And you own all of the money.”
How would you have responded in that situation?
