My Husband Ditched Us for His Female Best Friend’s Wedding – So I Made Him Regret It!
My Husband Left Me Looking After Our Kids for His Female Best Friend’s Wedding — I Made Him Regret It
My husband’s decision to go alone to his best friend’s wedding while I was at home with the kids caused me to experience a familiar wave of distrust. But I did something, and what I found out that evening completely destroyed our lives.

Hide things had never been Daniel’s strong suit. You’d think that after a decade of marriage, I would be accustomed to his pathetic attempts at trickery, but he surprised me that morning. The note was on the kitchen counter when I returned from a playdate with the kids.
After accepting the present, I attended Jane’s wedding. Return later than expected.
Daniel
I felt the familiar heat of betrayal rise in my chest as I glanced at the note. The present I had meticulously chosen, the one that we both agreed came from us and not just from him. And Jane, our companion. That is, I believed.
“Mom, where’s Dad?” Timmy tugged at my sleeve and inquired.
“My dear, he left. Today, we have a babysitter scheduled.” I forced a grin and started calling our occasional babysitter’s number.
Sarah, my closest friend, had been worried about Daniel’s actions lately. It was she who initially hinted that he might be up to no good. I had written off her worries, assuming it was just his typical silence. However, this? There was something different about this.

It had taken me years to find a balance between my home obligations and my hopes of going back to work. As Daniel worked a full-time job and left early and returned late, I frequently felt stuck as a stay-at-home mother.
Playdates, changing diapers, and never-ending housework occupied my days. I cherished my children, but occasionally I questioned what had become of the driven woman I had once been.
There was a hint of excitement in my eyes when we got the invitation to Jane’s wedding. Though Jane was also a friend of mine, she was Daniel’s best friend, so it felt like an opportunity to catch up with our former social group.
I pictured us attending together while I spent hours selecting the ideal present. Daniel, however, dashed my dreams, telling me that since we had no one to watch the kids, we should stay home.
“Can’t we find a sitter, just for one night?” I had begged.
“Elly, no. It’s just too much work. He dismissed my worries and replied, “We’ll send the gift and our regrets.”
His continued position as the wedding drew near made me suspect more and more. Why did he insist on not going? What did he have to hide?
I couldn’t let my rage fester inside of me. I had to see it with my own eyes. After settling the kids with the nanny, I went to get my keys.
“Where are you going?” Sarah’s voice came across the phone crackling. I had contacted her because I really needed her bravery.

“To the nuptials. I must ascertain the true situation.”
I kept to myself at the wine farm that served as the reception site. Daniel was there very quickly, giggling and chattering along as if he was carefree. Then there was Jane, with her brilliant, broad smile, but her eyes were hiding something.
I stealthily followed them. I crept closer as they disappeared into one of the wine vaults, glancing through the slightly ajar door. They were having a quiet yet heated argument.
“You said it was over with Jake!” Daniel gave a hiss. “And now you’re marrying him!”
Jane gave a headshake. “I never made any promises to you. But since you’re already here, why not have one final go at it?”
My breathing stopped. I could not take my eyes off of the feeling that I was going to pass out. Then it took place: they shared a kiss. A deep, intense kiss that validated all of my worst suspicions.
With trembling hands, I removed my phone and took a few quick videos. Sufficient to convey the treachery. Sufficient to be used as proof. I walked out with tears flowing down my face, as silently as I had arrived.
I spent a long time trying to understand what I had witnessed while sitting in my car when I got home. I required a strategy. I couldn’t just walk up to him and let it end up being another exchange of hollow excuses and unfulfilled vows. This was more substantial. This marked the conclusion.

I gave Sarah a call. “You were accurate. I observed them. I took a video of it.
“Elly, I apologize so much. How will you proceed?”
“I’m calling a lawyer.”
The following day, I was feeling numb and ferociously determined as I sat in the attorney’s office.
The lawyer Melanie stated, “Infidelity is grounds for divorce,” in a composed and businesslike tone. But we must make a compelling argument. Do you possess any further proof?”
“I’ll make sure I get more,” I said. “Whatever it takes.”
Throughout the following few days, I collected any and all information that suggested they were having an affair, including emails and SMS. Daniel, meantime, pretended as though nothing was wrong and that he hadn’t destroyed our lives.
I couldn’t contain myself one evening. “How was the wedding?” I spoke, sending the words hurtling toward Daniel.
Startled, he looked up from his phone. “It performed well. Jane had a stunning appearance.
“I bet she did.” My tone sounded icy.

“Is something wrong?” He cocked his head, trying to look worried.
“Daniel, stop acting foolish. I am aware of Jane and you.”
Though his face went pale, he soon brightened. “What are you talking about?”
“I observed you. In the wine cellar, at the wedding, with Jane. I took a video of you. Don’t mislead me.
His mouth moved back and forth, but nothing came out. He was silent for once.
Daniel, I’m done. I’ve spoken with an attorney. They’ll get back to you shortly.
He attempted to object and clarify, but I had already moved on. I refused to hear his justifications any longer. I had a life to reconstruct and children to defend. I was determined not to let him stop me.
I felt a burst of strength and clarity that I hadn’t felt in years, but the fight was just getting started. This marked a sea change for me. I was sick of being the housewife and passive person who let things happen to her. I was prepared to assume command.

I waited for Daniel to get home that evening. I prepared the divorce papers, had the laptop playing the video, and had written down the lawyer’s number on a notepad next to me.
He entered with a look of nonchalance that I could only interpret as guilt.
He started, “Elly, we need to talk,” but I interrupted him.
I remarked, getting to my feet and pressing play on the movie. “No, you need to listen,” The room was filled with the sound of his voice, begging Jane to listen. His eyes grew wide as he turned to face me, fear beginning to set in.
“I can explain —”
“Don’t bother,” I said. “You were given the opportunity. The divorce documents are these. I’m requesting child support, complete custody of the children, and the house. I’ve already had a legal consultation.”
Deflated, he sank into a chair. “Please, Elly. Let’s discuss this.
Daniel, there’s nothing to discuss. You choose what to do. You’ll have to bear the consequences now.”

He packed his things through the night. I prayed that the children would not wake up to the sound of their father leaving while they were asleep. It was almost midnight by the time he was prepared to leave. I remained unflinching as he stood at the entrance, his eyes beseeching one final time.
“Goodbye, Daniel.”

The ensuing few months were filled with a flurry of court cases and psychological distress. I provided my documentation and filed for divorce. The footage was indisputable, but the court proceedings were tiresome. Daniel made no attempt to resist it.
I was given full custody and a good settlement by the judge. Because of his adultery, Daniel lost both his position in the house we had created together and his marriage.

After years of hibernation, I went back to work. It was difficult to raise two children alone while juggling a profession, but I discovered a strength I didn’t know I had. My motivation came from my desire to provide my kids with a secure and caring home.

I was surprised at how quickly the kids adapted to our new way of life. Like their mother, they were tough. And as I advanced in my profession, I came to understand that I wasn’t simply getting by, I was thriving.

I happened to run into Jane at the grocery store one day. Her face reddened with humiliation, she averted her gaze. I was in no necessity of saying anything. More than words could ever say, my achievement, contentment, and presence spoke for themselves.
Sarah said, “Elly, you look great,” when they were having coffee. Throughout it all, she had been my pillar of support, always there to offer me a bottle of wine or a shoulder to weep on.
“Many thanks, Sarah. I feel like I’m back on my feet at last.”

“You’ve accomplished more. You have completely reconstructed your life.”
She was accurate. From the wreckage of my marriage, I had taken back my life. My goal in exacting revenge wasn’t to hurt Daniel; rather, it was to demonstrate to myself that I was capable of supporting myself.
I also had. I supported my children, fulfilled my professional ambitions, and discovered a fresh, independent form of happiness.

I took a tall stance, confident that I was prepared for whatever lay ahead. I had overcome the worst and emerged victorious. I stood for tenacity and self-determination, and I vowed to keep fighting for the life and joy we all deserved.
How would you have responded in that situation?
