Simone Biles’ Final Salute: Fans React to Her Unconventional Move After Fall and Imperfect Routine
‘It’s a Final Salute to the Crowd’: Fans Discuss Simone Biles’ Unusual Act after Fall & Less than Perfect Floor Routine
Following her expensive error during her Olympic final performance, Simone Biles is the talk of the public. Some speculate that since Biles did anything out of the ordinary, this might be her final ride.

Renowned gymnast Simone Biles competed in the Artistic Gymnastics final women’s floor exercise yesterday, August 5. Unfortunately, she faltered at one point in this performance, so it wasn’t her greatest. When she was finished, Biles turned to face the audience and delivered what has come to be known as a “final salute.”
Elevating herself on the gymnastics beam during the Paris Olympics, Biles exuded confidence and preparedness as she showcased her physical abilities to the excited spectators.

But somewhere along the line, she lost her balance and tumbled off the beam as her body prepared to topple over itself. The Olympian lost the opportunity to win the gold because of this mistake. In addition to missing out on first place, Biles finished fifth in the beam event and outside of the top three.
After she shared a video of her not-so-perfect balancing beam routine, our AmoMama readers poured their thoughts onto our Facebook comment area.
One reader said, “She should retire now that the applause is high[.],” expressing the opinion that Biles should give up while she’s ahead. You are human, attractive, and you have etched your name in the gymnastics annals 🤸♀️ before she sadly retires.”

Another reader said, “Disappointing for her,” while expressing both sympathy and admiration for the athlete. Still, what a fantastic athlete!!!!!”
In addition to calling attention to Biles’ fall, a lot of internet users have also focused on the unusual performance the gifted artist did later in the day after wrapping up her floor routine. Biles may be seen turning to face the audience in video shot during the event, her arms up and beaming broadly.
She then moves off the mat, continuing to raise her arms until she is no longer on the platform. A few individuals who witnessed this believe Biles was attempting to convey to the world that this was her final Olympic competition.

“I am aware that she took this action due to the previous deduction on beam. But to anyone else, does it also appear to be a sort of farewell salute to the audience? 😭😭,” a person on X wondered on social media. In a similar vein, someone else declared, “I thought this! “She’s bidding adieu to Paris and possibly her final Olympics!”
But someone else inquired, “Why did she do this?” unable to draw any inferences or conjectures. However, a different segment of the public focused more on the title that accompanied the video of Biles’ performance on Eurosport.
“Simone Biles with NEAR perfection on the floor! 😲,” the headline of the video on Eurosport reads. One person commented, “She was far from perfection!” in response to this. She received silver after running out of boards twice. It’s really not fair!”
Another said, “Near perfection while she was out of the floor twice!” in agreement. Another person merely asked, “Near perfection???? 😅.”
At a press conference following the event, Biles discussed her “near perfection” performance, for which she received a high difficulty score of 6.9.

The winner of eleven Olympic gold, who was penalized -0.6 for her mistakes, revealed, “Today has been absolutely wild.” We still had to go out and compete today, even though I’ve been out on that floor competing so much that fatigue and other issues naturally came in.”
Biles made it clear that she is still very happy of her achievements even though she is aware that her performance during the women’s floor exercise was not at her best.

“My performance at the Olympics doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Actually, now that the tension of it is past, I’m really delighted, proud, and even more excited,” Biles said.
She further expressed her satisfaction with the way things turned out by acknowledging that the person who was supposed to win a medal did so.
In her remarks, Biles talked about competing against other athletes and with her Team USA teammates, saying, “And it’s such an honor to compete with these girls on both the beam and on the floor.”

USA gymnast Jordan Chiles finished with a bronze medal, just behind her teammate. Her score was 13.766. Rebeca Andrade, the gold medallist from Brazil, defeated Biles with a score of 14.166.
Rather than feeling resentment for losing to Andrade for first place, Biles lavished the gifted gymnast with compliments. A video that CBS Sports posted on TikTok features Biles talking about her competition experience against Andrade.
“I no longer wish to compete with Rebeca. Reporters laughed a little when Biles jokingly said, “I’m tired.”

“She’s way too close, I’ve never had an athlete that close, so it definitely put me on my toes and it brought out the best athlete in myself so I’m excited and proud to compete with her, but mhm, I don’t like it no more,” Biles said.
She even said that having to compete against the Brazilian superstar was starting to feel awkward.

“But after the bars, and then I saw the score come up, I was like, ‘Oh goodness […] Thank God we did the double pike today,’ because I wasn’t planning on it but I just knew how phenomenal of an athlete she is […] so I was like, ‘Ok, I think I have to bring out the big guns this time,'” Biles said.
In an additional display of good sportsmanship, Biles and Chiles chose to bow down to Andrade while all three of them were standing on the podium for the medal presentation. Speaking of the legendary occasion, Biles gushed, “She’s incredible. She is the queen.

Biles also mentioned how thrilling it was to witness so many athletes of color occupying the podium. She then went on to describe how the occasion came to be.
“Jordan asked if we should submit to her. ‘Absolutely!’ I responded. So we thought, “Are we going to do it now?” And for that reason, we took action. But it’s really exciting to see her,” Biles said.

Midway through the conversation, Chiles also interrupted to confirm all of Simone Biles’ compliments on Andrade. “Why don’t we just give her her flowers? She hasn’t just given Simone her flowers; she has also given many of us in the US our flowers.” Thus, returning it is what makes it so lovely,” Chiles continued.
All of the gymnasts, regardless of their medal position—gold, silver, or bronze—should be extremely pleased of themselves for their outstanding accomplishments as well as their outstanding sportsmanship, which included applauding and recognizing their fellow competitors. We salute you all, gymnast athletes, and we say congratulations!
