On August 15, Thursday, Jana Duggar and Stephen Wissmann, 31, exchanged vows in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. The Grand at Willow Springs, the location of the surprise wedding, was picked for its scenic splendor.
“Classic and elegant,” the ceremony was described, drawing 500 people, including members of the Duggar family and close friends. For the 34-year-old author and television personality—known as the eldest Duggar daughter—this occasion is a dream come true.
Jana, who has openly expressed her desire to find love in the past, looked stunning as she made her way down the aisle in an ivory satin ball gown that hung off the shoulder. Jim Bob Duggar, her father, accompanied her with pride while the song “Holy, Holy, Holy” played in the background.
Jessa Duggar Seewald, Jana’s sister, was the maid of honor. Her sisters Joy-Anna, Johannah, Jinger, Jordyn, and sister-in-law Abbie were in the bridal party.

Jana recalled that the Wissmann family used to travel and perform, and that they had paid the Duggars a visit approximately thirteen years prior. Since Stephen was younger and she had other priorities at the time, she didn’t really pay any attention to him.
They didn’t get back in touch and understand they had something unique until much later. A few years ago, Jana and Stephen had a brief relationship that ended, but they kept in contact.
When their paths crossed again this year, it was evident that their love for one another had only gotten stronger. “How are we acting right now? We continue to enjoy one another. Regarding their renewed relationship, Jana remarked, “We still really appreciate each other.”
Stephen’s perseverance and commitment were key factors in gaining Jana’s affection. She saw through her first misgivings to his sincere concern and affection for her.
“I had been a slow starter, but gradually, his qualities, his return, and his unwavering love for me… “I can’t believe how few people actually do that,” she exclaimed.
Family was the center of Jana and Stephen’s wedding festivities, with both of their huge families performing important roles all day long. Involving their loved ones was very important to the couple.
“Coming from two bigger families, we love to be able to get together and celebrate moments like these,” Jana said. This close-knit family relationship is shared by Stephen, one of 13 siblings, which adds to the specialness of the day.
The union also symbolizes the conclusion of a journey that Jana has been transparently sharing with her followers for many years. While Jana wasn’t worried about her love life, she did say a few years ago that she hoped to find the right person eventually.
She remarked, “I’m not that worried,” at thirty years old. Sure, I do hope to be married someday, but I also believe that… All I’m doing is attempting to keep occupied with whatever comes my way.” Jana was determined to enjoy her time as a single person at that period, despite occasional pressure to make a significant life move.
In October 2019, Jana also talked candidly about her dating experiences, stating that “none of them worked out” despite the fact that she had been asked out by “a number of guys.” Being the oldest daughter, Jana had seen firsthand how challenging it was for many of her younger siblings to get married and have children. This is what added to the specialness of her wedding.
After the wedding, the newlyweds traveled to their reception location, where guests were treated to a traditional supper that Stephen’s family—who are well-known for their culinary prowess—had prepared. There was chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, buns, and coleslaw on the menu.
“Because we’re doing an evening wedding, I envisioned this more formal, sit-down dinner,” Jana said. “The Wissmanns have amazing culinary skills. I tell them to just do it, but they’ve been working on it. I have faith in you all. You guys cook delicious cuisine.” A trio of lemon raspberry cakes and a selection of cupcakes were served to the guests as dessert.
Heartfelt toasts and games brought a personal touch to the evening’s vibrant interactions at the reception.
As emcee, one of Jana’s brothers-in-law made sure there was plenty of happiness and laughter throughout the celebration. One of the highlights of the event was the couple’s first dance together, which was followed by the customary bouquet throw.
Jana and Stephen are eager to start their lives together in Nebraska, where Stephen works, now that they are married. The couple’s effort of renovating the property they purchased together has strengthened their bond.
“It’s fantastic,” Jana said. “We’ve been working, he has a little house we bought that we’ve been fixing up and getting pulled together, and so that’s been fun.”
