He Mocked an Elderly Janitor—Karma’s Swift Response Left Me Speechless
Entitled Man Mocked an Elderly Janitor – I Was about to Stand Up for Him, but Karma Got There First
When I went to my favorite café, I went in expecting nothing more than the usual calm, but on this fateful day, a disrespectful stranger made my fury boil! The lifelong janitor of the café was the incorrect person the rude man chose to target, yet karma immediately and kindly served him!

Usually, lunch was a quick reprieve from the hectic, hectic workday. I used to visit this little café; it was a comfortable place with soft lighting and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The regulars had grown to be well-known faces, and the staff knew me by name. It was my quiet lunchtime haven, but on this particular day, the peace was broken by an unanticipated meeting.
Not long after I arrived on this particular day, my normally calm location started acting strangely. The door opened just as I was getting comfortable at my go-to corner table with a warm cup of coffee. A man whose conceit appeared to precede him entered.
He was wearing a well-fitting suit, looked well put together, and had a watch on his wrist that probably cost more per month than my rent. Attention was drawn to the man, but not in a positive way.
The old janitor, Mike, was sweeping gently by the door. He’s 65 years old, soft-spoken, and has been employed at the café for as long as I can remember. He’s a nice man. Even with his tired eyes, Mike always had a pleasant smile on his face.

His tattered uniform edges and his old sneakers were easily overlooked due to his charming demeanor. But today something unexpected was going to throw his routine into a loop!
Mike unintentionally bumped into the haughty-looking man as he walked by with his broom. Though the error was straightforward and innocuous, the response it sparked was anything but!
“What the heck? WHAT IS THE PRICE OF THIS JACKET, DO YOU KNOW? The man growled, his voice like a sharp dagger slicing through the café! He glanced at the janitor, who instantly moved back, his eyes wide with disbelief. His face twisted with wrath.
Mike, who dislikes conflict and drama, bent his head sheepishly and said, “I’m really sorry, sir.” However, the man had no desire to apologize!
“I apologize. You don’t need to say “sorry.” With a sneer that was oozing with contempt, he said, “People like YOU shouldn’t even go out and breathe close to normal people like me.”

“What’s your name?” I will report this incident to your supervisor.”
“It’s Mike, sir,” the helpless janitor answered, continuing to stare at the ground.
All eyes were fixed on the scene as the entire café went silent. My hands were clenching into fists beneath the table as I could feel the strain building. I could not watch helplessly while this man berated Mike.
I was about to get up and get in, but my heart was pounding in my chest. But something extremely wild happened before I could even push my chair all the way out so I could stand, and before I could voice my complaints!

A forceful, surprised voice roared from the back of the café. “Is that you, Mike? It’s unbelievable! A guy who was out of sight called out, “WE’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU!”
Everybody turned to watch him get up from the VIP or special guest table at the rear window. He was middle-aged, looked sharp in a suit, and exuded confidence that attracted attention right away.
With a mixture of shock and delight, he approached the spot where Mike and the haughty guy were standing, his eyes locked on the elderly janitor. “Mike,” the man spoke again, growing softer in tone as he got closer. “Oh my God, Mike, we have been searching for you since that accident twenty-three years ago! Do you still recall me?
The janitor blinked, a confused brow furrowing. I apologize, sir, but I can’t seem to recall you. I’ve been employed here as a housekeeper. I believe you have me confused with someone else.”
The man’s smile wavered a little, but it returned shortly. He turned to the haughty man who had just been berating the cleaner and said, “It looks like you have amnesia, buddy!” “This man is more than just a janitor,” he remarked, pointing to Mike.
“He’s my business partner who disappeared twenty-three years ago after a yacht accident at sea.”

Everyone in the café quieted down to consider what the stranger had said. The haughty man’s countenance became pale as the realization crushed his bluster.
As he struggled to speak, the man interrupted him. The man’s tone grew cold, “You owe this good man an apology, and not just that.” “This will be corrected by you. Drive him to the greatest clothes store in town once you’ve taken him to your car. Get him anything he desires.”
“Take him to the best restaurant and let him order anything he wants when you’re done getting him suited up. Drop him off at his house after that, and by tomorrow, give him a thousand dollars. You get it?”
The haughty guy nodded, his expression pale. “That’s right, Mr. Peter. Thank you so much, Mr. Mike. He muttered, scarcely raising his voice above a whisper, “I didn’t know.” However, the man now known as Peter wasn’t done.

Cold and uncompromising, he continued, “And if you don’t do exactly as I’ve said, consider yourself fired.” The haughty guy gave a slight twitch as though he had been hit, then hurriedly followed Peter’s instructions.
Mike stood there, stunned by how things had turned out. He said, “But, sir, I’m just a janitor,” as he cast his gaze down at his broom, as though that were the only things keeping him grounded.
Mike felt Peter’s comforting hand rest on his shoulder. “Even though you work as a janitor, you still deserve more. There’s nothing to worry about. Everything will be handled with care.”
And with that, the haughty man, completely humbled now, led the café’s janitor outside. Now, instead of his former arrogance, he exuded a jittery energy as he attempted to make amends. The café was alive with murmuring when the door closed behind them.
The employees looked at one another, whispering to one another about what had just happened. I stayed in my chair, trying to make sense of the bizarre sight that had just happened. The two sitting next to me were discussing Peter.
The other replied, “That’s Peter Standford, he’s the rich guy who is the sole owner of a large companies that line this street.”
The friend of the woman asked, raising her eyes in astonishment, “Really?”
Indeed! The impolite man is someone I know too; he works for one of Peter’s local businesses.”

“Whoa, what a surprise! For someone who is wealthy, he seems like a decent man,” the friend replied.
“Yes, he is! Peter is always distributing money to people in need and working with the homeless. It was amazing what he did for old man Mike. How did they meet, I wonder? They appear to be very dissimilar. However, amnesia is a terrible illness.
I continued to stare at Peter as he passed my table on his way out, zoning out on their talk. He turned around at that very moment, and our eyes locked. Until today, I had not seen the wealthy man in the café.
He gave me a smile, and even though I knew it would ruin the surprise, I felt brave enough to ask a crucial question. “Excuse me, do you really know Mike?” I enquired as my curiosity overcame me.

With a knowing gleam in his eyes, Peter grinned. “Yes, I am aware of him. I met this cleaner a few weeks ago, and he’s a really nice guy overall.”
“Please forgive my curiosity, but I’ve known him for quite a while and never heard him mention being a businessman before.”
Peter grinned in response to what seemed like an inside joke, saying, “I am not surprised that he never spoke about that life because it doesn’t exist.”
“Sooo… he’s not your business partner?” Wanting to be sure, I pressed.

“Well, of course not,” Peter laughed in his response. “That bully needed to get a lesson for his actions. And at Donald’s expense, Mike deserved to receive moral compensation,” he laughed more.
His laughter was contagious, and before long, I was laughing too. The tension that had been in the café a few seconds before vanished, to be replaced by a feeling of relief and justice done.
Peter had so skillfully flipped the roles! He demonstrated to us that kindness and cleverness could coexist with haughtiness. I couldn’t help but think of the strength of a straightforward act of sticking up for what’s right as the guy turned to go.

Ultimately, the goal was to remind everyone in attendance that respect and decency are rights, not privileges, and that nobody should ever have to defend Mike. I observed Peter go out of the café, his silhouette merging with the bustling road beyond.
With a story I knew I would be telling for years to come, the door closed behind him. An account of justice, karma, and the surprising bravery of a wealthy man named Peter!

Although Mike’s story ended happily, he is not the first individual in the service sector to have quick good luck. An innocent waiter was humiliated by a woman’s father-in-law, and karma literally made him pay!
