Airport Surprise Gone Wrong: My Funny Poster Made Her Run in Fear!

I Met My Wife at the Airport with a Funny Poster — But When She Saw It, She Paled and Ran Away

The last thing Edward expects is for Louise to turn pale and run away when he greets her playfully at the airport. Edward discovers a truth from Louise’s background that could destroy their relationship as he scrambles to figure out why his joke hurt so much.

Do you realize that certain couples have tiny peculiarities? They have a pet name that only makes sense to them, or what, “their song”? Louise and I, however, had signage for our airports.

Years ago was when it all began. Being cheesy as I am, I had a sign that said “WELCOME HOME, MY LOVE” waiting for her when I got to the terminal. When she saw it, she laughed, and asked if I could design another sign the next time she had to travel for work. It became our thing after that.

There were moments when the signs were endearing, and moments when they were just absurd. I once held up one that read, “FREE HUGS FROM A DEVOTED HUSBAND,” and she laughed so hard she almost passed out.

However, I believed that I would surpass myself this time.

I was eager to see her again after she had been away for a week attending a conference in Chicago. Thus, I made the decision to add some flair by making a sign that said, “I KNOW WHAT YOU DID.” A HUGE MISTAKE WAS COMING HOME.”

It seemed like a good plan because the previous night I had watched a horror movie. I assumed she would notice, roll her eyes, and give me that annoyed, “Oh, Eddie” look she gets when I push the boundaries.

And so here I was, displaying my work of art while standing in the center of the busy terminal.

My gaze was fixed on the gate, scrutinizing every visage until Louise emerged, radiating her timeless beauty. Her face was completely devoid of blood as soon as she noticed the placard. Her eyes locked with mine, and I was struck with the sheer terror I saw in her.

She pivoted on her heel and walked off before I could respond.

It took me a moment to comprehend the recent events. She was halfway down the terminal when I dropped the sign and started after her.

“Louise!” I screamed, but she didn’t even turn around.

She moved quickly, so I tried to squeeze through the crowd. Then security intervened, preventing me from moving forward and informing me that I had to stop.

Trying to explain that my wife had just run off and that I needed to find her, I was in a panic. However, they refused to accept it.

She didn’t respond when I called her after taking out my phone. What on earth just transpired? What was it about the placard that set her off in that way?

With my head racing, I sat on a bench and stared at the phone in my palm. And then I realized—her mother. It was her if anyone knew what was going on with Louise.

I didn’t even give her a chance to say hi when she picked up when I called her. Louise, is she with you? Tell me she’s there, please.”

“Why would she be, then? Edward, what action did you take?

Julie, I’m not sure! I simply greeted her at the airport and told her it was a mistake to come home since I knew what she had done. Although it was meant to be humorous, she became terrified and fled.”

A long, heavy pause was followed by a heavy sigh. “Edward, she thinks you found out about her surgery.”

I gave a blink. “What topic are you discussing? Which surgical procedure?”

“Louise’s current appearance wasn’t always what it was. She underwent numerous procedures to alter her appearance after graduating from college. You never noticed her back then, even if she was in love with you. You didn’t meet again by accident. After she changed, she made it happen.”

I was hearing things that I couldn’t believe. Did Louise and I attend the same college? Had she altered her entire appearance just for me?

“I… I don’t… this sounds crazy, Julie!” I gasped.

She groaned, “I know, but Ed, it wasn’t all about you. Louise had a cleft palate from birth, which has always made her self-conscious about the way she appears. Although she had always wanted surgery, her falling in love with you served as the impetus for it.”

Numb, I sat there and let my phone fall out of my grasp. The lighthearted jest I had in mind had ripped open a wound I was unaware even existed.

All I wanted to do at the time was find her and put this right, even if maybe I should have been stressing over all the other details.

The journey home was a haze of flashing red lights and anxious looks at my phone, hoping it would ring with a message or call from her. Still, nothing. Just the sound of complete silence, echoing my fear.

I was trembling by the time I pulled into our driveway. With a terrified voice, I yelled her name as I rushed through the door. “Louise? Please come here, Louise.”

Nothing. The home was strangely silent, as though it were holding its breath. As I looked around the home and eventually made my way upstairs to our bedroom, my heart hammered more loudly.

There was a quiet, muffled sob from behind the door. My heart was broken by it. My breath caught in my throat as I pulled the door open slowly and saw her.

With every cry, Louise’s body trembled as she lay there on the bed, her phone pressed to her chest. I was crushed to see her in that state.

My chest tightened as I halted at the threshold. How could I possible make this right? However, I soon understood that neither of us would benefit from just standing there and doing nothing. I went to her since that was the first thing that came to mind.

I took a seat next to her on the bed and moved slowly, as if I was worried that she would shatter if I sat too close. “Louise,” I mumbled. “I truly apologize. God, I had no idea. I was ignorant.”

She continued to cry, the pillow dampening her tears. With shaky hands, I reached out and caressed her shoulder gently. At first, she winced, but gradually, she turned to face me, her eyes filled with tears.

“I assumed you would laugh at it. I didn’t aim to cause you harm. I was ignorant of just about everything.

“But you do now, obviously.” Louise’s cheeks were wet with new tears, and her face crumpled. “I was really afraid. I was scared every day that you would find out. that if you knew the truth, you would no longer love me. And right now.”

I murmured, “Louise, no,” heartbroken by the agony in her voice. “I love you, honey. I adore your good nature, your ability to become enraged at injustice, and your ability to see the bright side of every cloud. Not how you appear, but who you are is why I adore you.”

Her eyes scanned mine, as if she was having trouble believing that I was being honest. I gently extended my arm to embrace her and held her close.

I softly said, “I’m so sorry,” into her hair. “I love you, Louise, more than anything in this world.”

She merely sobbed on my chest for a brief while, the intensity of her emotions causing her body to tremble. Wishing I could somehow take away all of her agony, I held her even tighter. She gradually began to calm down after what seemed like a lifetime, her breathing smoothing out as she clung to me.

She said, “I thought if you knew the truth, you’d hate me.”

“Never,” I firmly stated. “Louise, I could never dislike you. You are the love of my life, my spouse, and my wife. Nothing can alter that.

She withdrew a little and raised her tear-stained eyes to me. “Do you really mean that?”

I cupped her face in my palms and replied, “Absolutely,” “You’re stuck with me, whether you like it or not.”

A timid little smile pulled at her mouth’s corners.

I got up earlier than usual the next morning. I had to not just tell her, but also demonstrate to her how much I meant what I’d said.

I had a little placard put up against the plate when I brought the tray into the bedroom after making her breakfast in bed. The words were, “I LOVE YOU FOR YOU.”

Grasping the sign, she pressed it against her chest and muttered, “I love you, too, Eddie.”

I knew then that everything would work out for the best.
