One Year After Her Son’s Death, Woman Discovers Daughter-In-Law’s Grave — A Shocking Twist Unfolds
A Year after Son’s Death, Woman Sees Grave of Her Daughter-In-Law at the Cemetery – Story of the Day
When Brenda visits her late son’s grave and unexpectedly sees her daughter-in-law’s tombstone nearby, she is shocked and puzzled by the wife’s insistence that they had never met. Although her son’s best friend offers to assist in unraveling the mystery, his strange behavior leaves Brenda no choice but to solve it on her own.

When Christopher died in a terrible accident at the age of 27, his mother Brenda was left to deal with an unending sea of grief. After his death, she felt as though everything had darkened and her health had declined.
After spending a year in a clinic, Brenda has traveled hundreds of miles to visit her son’s grave. She arrived at the metro station in the city where Chris had lived, died, and was buried, carrying an overwhelming burden of grief.
Brenda recognized Harper, her widowed daughter-in-law, among the crowd as she made her way to the station exit. After visiting the cemetery, Brenda had made plans to meet Harper, so she hastened to surprise the young woman.
“Heaper! Harper? Hold on a minute!” She gave the woman a quick back pat on the shoulder.
“My name is not Harper. I’m not correct, lady. Brenda’s hand was brushed aside by the haughty young lady, who hurried off.

That is peculiar! Brenda pondered. I couldn’t be fooled by my own eyes. Her voice, eyes, and hair color are all the same. Harper is who she is!
The woman, though, had disappeared into the throng. Brenda went to the cemetery after hailing a cab outside the station. She couldn’t figure out why Harper had acted in such an odd way, and the incident followed her throughout the voyage.
“Madam…”Brenda was startled out of her reverie by the taxi driver’s announcement, “We’ve arrived,” as he pulled up at the cemetery gate.
Brenda felt eerie silence as she looked for Christopher’s final resting place along the row of tombs. The moment she found it, a surge of emotions swept over her. She touched Christopher’s gravestone with shaking hands and burst into sobs.
Brenda looked over at the nearby cemetery, her eyes wide with disbelief.
She was frightened by the epitaph engraved on the gravestone.
With deep affection, Harper S.

Always loved, always missed.
Peace be with you.

“Oh my God…Harper went suddenly this week, but I was unaware of it.” Brenda let out a gasp, not believing what she saw.
She was instantly plagued by a persistent thought: “If Harper is dead, then who was the girl at the subway?”
Brenda heard someone sweeping dry leaves, and she snapped out of her reverie. The groundskeeper for the cemetery was working close by. Brenda came up to him and begged him to let her know about Harper’s burial.
The man sighed, lighted a cigarette, and sent a puff of smoke into the atmosphere. “That happened a week ago. It was peculiar. Only the funeral service personnel were present; there were no mourners. After bringing the casket, burying it, and placing a basic headstone, they departed. Not even a traditional funeral was held.”
“Did anybody visit her grave after that?” Brenda scowled.

“That’s not to my knowledge, Ma’am,” he answered. “I live on the premises and work here all day. I often patrol the cemetery, and I haven’t seen anyone pay respects to that woman’s tomb.”
Brenda said, “Alright, thanks,” and spun around. She could not make any sense of it.
Determined to uncover the truth behind her daughter-in-law’s passing, Brenda decided to meet with Jake, who had been both her late son’s closest friend and his business partner.
Jake was caught off guard when he discovered his best friend’s mother unexpectedly waiting at his door with a smile. Despite inviting her in, Brenda could sense his discomfort.
Brenda inquired Jake about his travel itinerary as soon as she walked in the door and noticed bags in the living room.
“Mrs. Sutton, I am departing this state. It’s been a difficult year since Chris died away,” Jake remarked, his countenance strangely filled with anxiety and disappointment. “The company is bankrupt so I decided to move somewhere far away from all the mess I’ve been dealing with.”
“How can the company be bankrupt, Jake?” Brenda arched an eyebrow.

“What’s happening? Harper’s mausoleum was visible next to my son’s burial. I wasn’t even informed that she had died! Please let me know what became of my daughter-in-law. How did she pass away?”
“Mrs. Sutton, I apologize for disturbing you. You were devastated and extremely troubled after Chris passed away. Brenda was haunted by Jake’s words, “I was afraid your condition might worsen if you found out about the company’s financial crisis and what Harper did when I learned you’d be spending a year in the hospital.”
“Jake, what did Harper do?” Brenda enquired. “I’m curious about everything.”

Jake inhaled deeply. “Well, Harper inherited the business following Chris’s passing, but she refused to take on management duties due to her lack of financial acumen. Thus, given I was already Chris’s business partner, we mutually agreed that I should take over as manager of the company.”
“To be honest, after the passing of your son, the business collapsed. When Harper proposed looking for investors and taking out loans to resurrect the business, we were about to file for bankruptcy,” Jake clarified.
Brenda voiced her suspicions, “But…you said Harper declined any say in the business,” raising her hands.
Yes, but we all had a burning desire to keep the business alive. We accepted Harper’s suggestion. However, Harper retracted the $5 million loan and left a week ago. The authorities began her search.”

“Oh my God! Harper embezzled the funds from the loan?” Brenda let out a shocked gasp. Accepting that her late son’s wife had undone all of his hard work after his passing was too difficult.
“We never expected her to backstab us like this, but she paid the price for her betrayal,” Jake said. “A burned-out automobile that had collided with a cliff close to the woods was found by the police. It belonged to Harper. She had a terrible accident and passed away right away.”
“What? Oh my God. Brenda cried out.
“A woman’s fully charred body was found by the police along with Harper’s gold letter ‘H’ pendant. There were burned remnants of $100 bills. Everything else was burned, and the death was ruled an accident.
Brenda exclaimed, “Jesus…Harper ruined everything.” But hold on, what about Christopher’s diligence? That the business filed for bankruptcy following his passing is incomprehensible.”

“I understand your frustration, Mrs. Sutton,” Jake replied. However, everything got out of control. Although Harper suffered greatly as a result of her deeds, her funeral was honorable. Despite the evil deed she did to all of us, a large number of people attended, and everyone lamented her terrible passing.”
“Harper’s funeral??” Brenda started to suspect something. There were no attendees at Harper’s funeral, the cemetery groundskeeper had informed her. Brenda sensed something was really wrong. Her suspicions were heightened by Jake’s nervousness and restlessness as well as his abrupt decision to depart the city.
“Uh, when is your flight, Jake?” Brenda enquired.
He stated, “Early tomorrow morning…6 a.m.”

“Do you mind if I stay here for the night?” Brenda enquired, hatching a scheme. “I’m wary about renting a hotel room all alone for tonight in a strange city.”
After giving it some thinking, Jake gave in and led Brenda to the guest room. Brenda went to bed, but she never slept. Rather, she waited tensely for Jake’s bedroom lights to go off in order to look for a hint that would enable her to piece the puzzle together.
Brenda went to the living room after Jake fell asleep and started going through his luggage. Her hands trembled, a mixture of fear and worry. What if Jake was only acting like he was sleeping? What if he noticed her snooping around? Brenda was troubled by the repercussions. However, she was committed to discovering the truth.
Brenda discovered two fictitious passports concealed within a covert compartment, turning her search into her worst nightmare. One included an image of her purportedly “dead” daughter-in-law, Harper, but with a false identity.

“You, Sarah? Harper, who are you trying to fool? Brenda whispered to herself.
“John?” When Brenda saw Jake’s picture in the second passport under a different name, her expression contorted with suspicion. “What’s the situation here? Do they have a deeper involvement—something I’m not even sure I can comprehend?”
Two plane tickets to London were then discovered by her, booked under fictitious identities. Brenda felt a strange feeling creep up her stomach.
Jake was up to no good with his accomplice, Sarah, who was really Harper. There has to be a response.
She ran to the drugstore at the end of the lane after swiftly returning the luggage to its original position. She brought sleeping pills back to Jake’s residence a few minutes later.
Jake ran downstairs at five in the morning, finding Brenda in the kitchen already preparing breakfast.
“Good morning, Jake! Before you depart on the journey, eat breakfast.” Brenda gave a kind grin. “Your orange juice is here.”
“Mrs. Sutton, you are very kind; thank you.” Brenda handed Jake a glass, which he took a sip from. “It tastes…uhm…nice….”
Jake passed out on the couch about twenty minutes later, exactly as Brenda had requested. Brenda had to wait for Harper to phone or text Jake because she was unable to go without a passport and airline ticket.

“Why is she taking so long? It’s five thirty,” Brenda muttered to herself.
The silence in the room was broken when Jake’s phone rang. “Sarah,” the caller’s name, flickered on the screen. However, Brenda didn’t pick up the phone. After a while, a message alert surfaced.
“Idiot, how could you sleep so much? Did you forget that today is our flight to London? I’m heading to your place in a taxi right now.”
“Come…I’m waiting for you…HARPER!”
Brenda hid behind the entrance door, grinning cruelly. After a half hour or so, Brenda looked through the spyhole and seen a cab arrive outside. She made a hasty police call.
Harper went inside as the door creaked open. When Brenda viewed her face, she was astounded by what she saw. Her daughter-in-law was still alive and well!
“Jake! Are you joking with me? Harper yelled at an unconscious Jake who was curled up on the couch, “Get up!” She was startled when she heard a familiar voice speak from behind.
“ARE YOU LOOKING FOR SOMEONE, HARPER?” Brenda yelled, slamming a vase hard into Harper’s head.
Harper passed out from shock and went unconscious. Brenda hurried outside when she heard police sirens a short while later. She gave the police an explanation of the issue and displayed the forged airline tickets and passports. After being admitted to the hospital, Jake and Harper were taken to the police station to be questioned.
Harper came clean after learning that her sentence may be terminated if she confessed to her crimes, even while Jake remained silent about his transgressions.
“We took the corpse of a homeless woman and bought off a morgue employee. We placed the body, which was wearing my gold necklace, on my car’s driver’s seat and lit it on fire. Then, to give the impression that there had been an accident, we rear-ended the automobile and caused it to tumble off the cliff.”

“And what about the money you stole?” The investigator fixed Harper’s gaze.
“The five million has been sent to our new bank accounts. Jake and I believed we would get away with it, and we thought everything was covered—the travel, the new passports, and the bank accounts. However… Harper stopped and sobbed, burying her face in her hands that were bound.
