My Boyfriend Always Had Excuses for Not Inviting Me Over — Everything Changed When I Discovered the Truth

Boyfriend Always Finds a Reason Not to Invite Me Over to His Place, Everything Changed When I Found out Why – Story of the Day

Jolene felt lonely and believed she might never get married just a few months ago. She was already picturing her wedding to Steve at this point. As though he were concealing something, Steve has yet to extend an invitation for her to visit his home. Despite her darkest fears, Jolene was nonetheless taken aback by what she found.

Steve and Jolene walked hand in hand down the peaceful, lamplit street, their hands comfortably clasped together.

Their united laughter seemed to reverberate softly into the night as the cold evening breeze caressed their faces.

Even though they had only been dating for two months, their warmth made it seem like they had known each other for much longer.

Jolene’s lips formed a playful smile as she looked at Steve.

“You know,” she said jocularly, “I still can’t get over the first time I saw your profile picture on the dating app.”

Steve smiled, curiosity glimmering in his eyes.

“Oh, I see. How about it?

Jolene shook her head and giggled.

“The photo where you’re holding up that huge fish! I was unable to stop laughing. “Who is this guy trying to impress people with his fishing skills?” I asked myself.

Steve smiled, obviously amused by her mocking, even though his face flushed a little.

“Hey, it was a proud occasion! The fish was enormous! Additionally, he continued with a smug sigh, “I believed it demonstrated my ability to supply, you know? A man with strength and ability bringing home the catch.

His lighthearted tone made Jolene chuckle, and they both joined in on the laughter. Their effortless chemistry made everything feel happy and carefree.

Their laughing turned into a gentle, delicate kiss as Steve leaned in and drew her close.

Steve’s arms encircled Jolene, bringing her back to the present with a surge of warmth.

However, just when everything appeared to be going well, Steve took a small step back.

“It’s getting late,” he remarked softly, looking up the street. “I should call a taxi to get you home safely.”

His abrupt change in tone gave Jolene a twinge of bewilderment. She wasn’t eager for the evening to finish because they were enjoying themselves so much.

“Or,” she said, attempting to seem casual, “maybe we could ride together in a taxi? You know, let’s go over to your apartment.”

Steve’s body language changed, but his smile persisted.

He looked at her apologetically and scratched the back of his neck. “Actually, my place is really close by,” he replied. “I’ll just walk.”

Jolene’s eyebrows raised a little, but she spoke in a lighthearted manner. She said, “Then let’s walk to your place together,” with genuine interest.

She was starting to question why Steve hadn’t invited her over after two months of dating. It seemed like a logical next step, but Steve had been apprehensive.

Steve’s smile wavered somewhat, and he glanced down at his phone and began tapping to make a cab call for her.

He muttered, “Maybe next time,” without looking her in the eyes.

A few minutes later, Jolene climbed into the rear seat of the cab as it arrived, her thoughts full with questions. She kept having the unsettling suspicion that Steve was keeping something from her.

What prevented him from asking her to come over? Was he simply not prepared for a more serious engagement, or did he have anything to conceal?

The only sound to disturb her thoughts throughout the silent ride home was the faint hum of the motor.

Jolene laid her head against the window and gazed out into the dark streets as the cab sped away, wondering if she was making too many assumptions or if her intuition was telling her anything she should be aware of.

Jolene’s suspicion that something was wrong with Steve persisted throughout the following morning.

Her head was full with possibilities after their date the previous evening, when he once again turned down her invitation to come to his house.

Was it a different female? Or did he simply lack the courage to proceed? Jolene struggled to decide whether to believe him or to allow her suspicions to deepen.

At last, she made the decision that she could no longer ponder. She required clarification.

Jolene used the morning to bake a pie as a considerate pretext for an unannounced visit. At least she could offer the pie as a peace offering if things became unpleasant.

She wondered what she may find when she carefully put the warm apple pie in a basket.

Did he have a secret? Was her intuition guiding her in the wrong direction? She took a big breath, got a cab, and left for the address she had located, wearing a cute but laid-back clothing.

Her heart began to race as the cab arrived in front of Steve’s house. Her hands shook a little as she picked up the basket and approached the entrance.

From the exterior, the house appeared to be a calm, uncomplicated, and comfortable space. Jolene inhaled deeply once again before knocking on the door and listening for any noises coming from within.

After hearing footsteps, she heard a woman’s voice, which made her stomach turn. She was shocked to hear a child’s voice after that. Jolene felt a surge of panic as her heart began to gallop more quickly.

Is it possible? All this time, was Steve keeping a family from her? Did he never invite her over because of this?

The door opened a little before she could say anything, and Steve was standing there, looking shocked and pale. When he spotted her standing there with a pie in her hand, his eyes widened.

He stumbled, “Jolene,” obviously unprepared for her arrival.

“What are you doing here?”

Jolene’s throat constricted as a thousand ideas raced through her head. She tried to maintain her composure as she replied, “I thought I’d bring you a pie… you know, as a surprise.” Then she looked past Steve and heard noises coming from the home.

However, you seem to have company. Just be honest with me, Steve. Do you have a spouse? Are you a family man? Her deepest anxieties threatened to overflow as her voice faltered.

With a tense expression on his face, Steve inhaled deeply. He slowly widened the door, and Jolene braced herself for the worst, her heart sinking.

Steve spoke the words, “I was married,” in a low, emotional voice.

However, my wife died. I am a widower.

Jolene blinked, trying to take it all in. A young girl appeared behind Steve and gazed up at Jolene with big, inquisitive eyes before she could even reply.

The girl happily exclaimed, “Hi!” oblivious to the tension in the air. “My name is Lucy. “Who are you?”

Jolene’s heart immediately warmed up.

She knelt down and gave the young girl a kind smile. “Hello, Lucy. “My name is Jolene,” she answered softly, attempting to control her tone.

Lucy was so excited that she pulled on Steve’s shirt.

“Daddy, can she stay for dinner? “Please?” she said, hope glimmering in her eyes.

Unsure of what to say, Steve turned to face Jolene. Jolene nodded slightly, indicating that she was alright, but she was still taking it all in.

Steve moved aside to let her in, looking relieved.

Jolene didn’t know exactly what to anticipate when she walked into the house, but she knew that everything was about to change right there.

Jolene felt the cozy embrace of the house’s warmth indoors. The air was filled with the aroma of a newly prepared supper, which gave the place a cozy and inviting vibe.

Another tiny girl, younger than Lucy, timidly peered over the dining table, her inquisitive gaze observing while Jolene took it all in.

Steve whispered, “That’s Carla,” presenting his younger daughter. With a modest little gesture, Carla slipped back behind the chair.

When Jolene saw both girls, her heart softened. Seeing them helped everything come together because they were so cute.

Steve had been defending his daughters as well as himself.

Exuberant and self-assured, Lucy raced over and took Jolene’s hand, dragging her to the table.

Jolene followed the young girl to the table where the food was ready and giggled. The girls started chatting and laughing as she sat down with them, telling amusing tales about their days.

Jolene couldn’t resist grinning at their warmth and purity.

Steve was largely silent, observing Jolene with a contemplative expression on his face as she engaged with his girls with ease.

Jolene felt as like she finally understood why Steve had concealed his home life for so long, for the first time since they had been dating. It had nothing to do with mistrust or secrets.

He was defending his family, which was far more valuable.

Jolene saw that Steve wasn’t merely being cautious; he was attempting to protect both his own and his kids’ hearts by ensuring their safety before allowing anyone entry.

Jolene and Steve were left alone at the table as the meal drew to a conclusion and the girls were sent to bed.

Clearly anxious about the chat they were going to have, Steve fidgeted with his hands.

Steve said, “I didn’t know how to tell you,” in a quiet voice.

“I didn’t want to frighten you off.” Since their mother passed away, raising them alone has been really difficult. I feared you would believe it was too much to bear.

Jolene gave Steve a gentle squeeze on the hand while smiling reassuringly into his eyes. She whispered, “I’m not going anywhere, Steve.”

“I was worried you were hiding something awful, but now that I know the truth… I’m just relieved.”

Steve’s amazement became apparent as his demeanor softened. “Are you truly comfortable with this? “With… them?”

Jolene nodded while speaking steadily and calmly. “Better than good. I can’t wait to learn more about Lucy and Carla because they are amazing. And in this new way, you too, Steve.”

Steve let out a long sigh as a smile gradually appeared on his face. He felt as if a burden had been removed from him.

“Thank you,” he said in a whisper, his eyes beaming with appreciation.

Knowing that this time was important for them both, Jolene felt a warmth blossom in her chest.

She became aware that their relationship had evolved into something more profound when she was leaving his house that evening.

They were constructing something based on honesty, trust, and a future that seemed more real than she had ever dreamed of; they were no longer just two people dating.
