Former ‘Bachelor’ Contestant Hailey Merkt Passes Away at 31 After Bravely Battling Leukemia

After a valiant fight with leukemia, Hailey Merkt, a former Bachelor contestant, died at the age of 31. Her family honored her fortitude and tenacity during her sickness by posting the devastating news on her Instagram.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce the departure of our beloved Hailey following a valiant fight for her life,” the family stated. “Hailey handled this situation with unfathomable bravery, generosity, and selflessness.

Despite each of the physicians’ predictions, her bravery, determination, and will to live were evident. She made the regretless decision to spend her last hours with her loved ones doing her favorite things.

Hailey, who was born in Vancouver, Canada, on November 3, 1992, gained notoriety after competing for Nick Viall’s affections on Season 21 of The Bachelor in 2017. After her stint on reality TV,

she worked as a senior marketing and communications manager and followed her love of photography. Hailey received a diploma in print journalism from Conestoga College and a degree in communication and media studies from Carleton University.

After intensive treatments, Hailey was first deemed cancer-free in April 2024; however, three months later, her condition unexpectedly changed. Her followers and loved ones are in mourning after her family reported that she died on July 26, 2024.

Hailey openly shared her journey on social media during her battle, including both her victories and setbacks. Many were impressed by her candor, and her departure prompted a flood of tributes from friends, relatives, and other Bachelor candidates who recalled her as a vibrant, funny, and kind person.

“I am grateful to have met and loved the most authentic, kind, and beautiful soul in the most unlikely of settings, and I count myself lucky to have heard your laughter.

I will always be appreciative of your friendship there and in the real world. Rest peacefully, my friend. What a powerhouse. Many thanks to all of your loved ones,” one Bachelor alumnus commented.

Another competitor, Raven Gates, expressed her grief: “Oh my goodness!!! I am deeply upset by this news. I sincerely hoped she would get better. Rest in peace, Hailey; you will never be forgotten.

Another acquaintance from The Bachelor, Dominique Alexis, also sent her sympathies, saying, “My dear, I trust you are now in the most beautiful tranquil place.” I will treasure every memory we have together even if I can’t imagine never seeing you again. I adore you.

Hailey’s family is thankful for the help that friends, followers, and donors have given to the GoFundMe page that was created to help with her medical bills.

Hailey’s generosity, unshakeable bravery, and the light she brought into their lives will live on in the memories of her loved ones.
