Grandson Left Only a Bible by Grandma, with a Note Saying ‘Open It When It’s Hard’ – What He Finds Inside Changes Everything
After a heated argument, Mike’s grandma passed away, leaving him nothing but a Bible and a note. He never turned around after throwing the book in his closet. Desperate to help his mother, he retrieved the book years later and was shocked to learn what was in it.

When Mike glanced at his mother’s latest medical bill, he muttered, “Unbelievable…” and quickly closed his laptop in frustration. Despite having insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses were overwhelming, and he felt a surge of anger over how expensive healthcare had become. Their savings were already stretched thin, and once again, he found himself thinking about his grandmother Grace with a hint of resentment.
As he leafed through an old book, something caught his eye—something he hadn’t noticed all those years ago.
Six years ago, they had a major argument when Grace insisted that Mike attend church on a specific day. He had already planned to go out with his pals, but he was too busy. He was eighteen and only thought about having fun.

Their debate descended into a brawl when Mike refused to give in to her insistence. Grace passed away soon after, and they never spoke to one another again.
Mike was surprised to learn that the elderly widow had bequeathed her whole estate, including her massive house, to the same church when they read her will. Up until the argument, their relationship had been wonderful, particularly following the death of her son, Mike’s father, who could have used the money and her house to cease renting out her house.
All he got instead was a note and a Bible. The words were: “Open it when it’s hard.”
He was taken aback. Grace’s petty behavior seemed unbelievable to him. He didn’t care that they argued over attending church, but the elder woman chose to discipline him.
He thought about the money again now that six years had gone by. Indeed, they never had a right to it. After all, it was her money, but his mother Kaila might have benefited a lot from it.

Mike had filed for a loan, spent all of his funds, and created a GoFundMe for his mother. Because he had nothing to pledge as collateral to that Washington bank, he was turned down. For some reason, that Bible kept coming to mind even though he had no idea what to do at this point.
Now, things are difficult. He got up from his home desk and went to his closet, thinking, I suppose I should open it and read some sections. He had thrown the Bible in there years ago and never bothered to find it again. However, he located it and turned to the first page, where he had placed the book’s accompanying message.
Mike read the note aloud once more. He said, “Open it when it’s hard…” “You old lady, you’re foolish. You were so petty, yet I loved you.”
Suddenly, out of his rage, he saw something odd in the book that he had missed years before. Something appeared to split the pages. Was there anything else she left for me to read? He turned the page, wondering.

His gaze expanded. Two $100 banknotes were present. There were two more $100 banknotes on the next page. And he found more as he turned the pages again and again! Within the pages of the Bible were thousands of dollars! He gathered them, laid them on his bed, and began to weep.
“Gramma, my goodness! How come you didn’t tell me? Why didn’t you speak up before you died? “I apologize for holding grudges against you for so long,” he whispered to the sky and began reflecting on his life.
He was brought up Catholic and attended church on a regular basis with Grace. At one point, he even joined the choir. However, like the majority of youngsters, he became disinterested and stopped participating. Grace persisted in encouraging him to go on, and she never stopped talking about Jesus, God, and the virgins. He started to detest those conversations. Now, however, he remembered them with nostalgia.
Then he thought back to the altercation with Grace and lamented the years he had harbored animosity toward her. She had made the correct decision. He needed to learn a severe lesson from her. Even though it was such a harsh penalty for that fight, he was thankful to her. He repeated, “You silly old woman,” but this time he was giggling.
The funds were more than sufficient to cover his mother’s medical expenses. So he told Kaila about it and headed to the hospital. When his mother heard what Grace had done, she laughed.

“Grace seems like she would do that. She was knowledgeable but also somewhat strange in certain ways. However, I think it’s strange that we didn’t notice anything at the time,” Kaila said, beaming broadly. “I apologize that you must spend it all on me. We could sell something, and you could keep some.
“No, mother. This money is all for you. When things got tough, Grandma advised me to consult the Bible. Holding his mother’s hand and telling her it was the proper thing to do, Mike responded, “This gift is meant for you.”
They began going to church together every Sunday when Kaila recovered. He went to church to thank Grace for what she had concealed in that Bible, even though he would never be as devoted a parishioner as she was. Every now and then, he begged her to greet whatever higher power existed.
What does this narrative teach us?
You never have the right to inherit anything. Because of his circumstances, Mike still had resentment toward Grace even though he was aware that he had no claim to her money. Even though he believed he didn’t deserve it, he was fortunate to find out that she did leave him an inheritance.
You cannot impose your religion on other people. You can guide individuals along a path, but you cannot hold it against them if they veer off course. Religion and faith are personal decisions. Mike pushed back when Grace attempted to push him. However, Mike discovered his own form of faith when she shifted her strategy.
