Boy Follows Dog Visiting Closed Store Daily and Uncovers a Heartwarming Secret — Story of the Day

An impoverished young man who worked in a warehouse close to a bike shop that had closed down observed a scruffy dog making repeat visits to the store on a regular basis. One day, he decided to follow it in order to find out where it was headed, and he ended up discovering a secret that broke his heart.

At 18, Chris was an experienced market worker who had encountered countless street animals during his time. But Ollie, a Shiba Inu, stood out from the rest. Unlike the typical stray, Ollie was friendly, well-behaved, and impeccably groomed—clearly someone’s cherished pet.

Chris first noticed Ollie outside a closed bike shop, gazing intently through the large glass windows. Curious about the dog’s peculiar behavior, Chris learned from his coworkers that Ollie belonged to the shop owner, who had mysteriously stopped coming to work weeks ago.

Each time Chris spotted the unfortunate dog, a wave of frustration washed over him. As a devoted dog lover, he couldn’t fathom how anyone could abandon such a beloved pet and disappear without a word. One afternoon, just before heading to the café for lunch, he knelt down, gently stroked the dog’s head, and said softly, “Hey there, Ollie… Want a sandwich, buddy?”

From that day forward, the curious Shiba Inu eagerly awaited Chris’s lunch break. Whenever Chris appeared with his lunchbox, Ollie would dash toward him, tail wagging with delight. Yet, instead of eating the offered snack, Ollie would grab it and dart away, the food clutched firmly in his jaws.

Day after day, Chris watched as Ollie followed the same routine—running off with the food only to return to his usual spot outside the bike shop before the market closed. At first, Chris assumed Ollie was caring for a hidden litter of puppies somewhere. However, this theory didn’t hold up for long, as Ollie was clearly a male dog. The mystery behind his strange behavior left Chris both puzzled and intrigued.

Chris became more and more concerned as the days went by, as he observed the mutt’s vitality diminishing with each passing day. Ollie appeared to be tormented by an unknown source of distress, and his coat, which had been lustrous in the past, was developing a dreary appearance. Even though Chris considered the possibility that it was because of abandonment, he was unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem.

Where is he going with the food without even taking a bite?

Chris observed Ollie as he joyfully licked his chops and wiggled his tail at the sight of the sandwich one day during noon. However, Ollie quickly grabbed the food and, as is his customary behavior, ran away. The event caused Chris to reflect and become more anxious.

“If Ollie doesn’t have puppies and his owner has abandoned him, then where is he taking the food every day?” he wondered to himself.

Chris yelled out to Ollie, “Where are you going?” as he pursued the dog. “Ollie, where are you going?” On the other hand, the mongrel refused to slow down or turn around, and it just vanished from the market, leaving Chris in a cloud of dust.

Chris had to shake his head and go back to work since he was unable to remove the image of Ollie racing away with the food. He was frustrated and perplexed by the situation. “Weird dog!”

Chris’s thoughts were swirling with countless theories about where Ollie disappeared to every day, yet none of them seemed to provide a clear answer.

That evening, as Chris finished his shift and stepped into the crisp night air on his way home, he caught sight of Ollie sitting patiently outside the closed bike shop. It was clear the dog had been waiting for him. As Chris approached, Ollie let out a soft whimper, his gaze unwaveringly fixed on the large glass windows of the shop.

Chris felt his heart sink as he saw the poor puppy, who was all by himself and whom he had developed a profound affection for over the course of the preceding several days. Chris had come to the realization that Ollie was more than just a peculiar dog as the link between the two had grown deeper during the time.

Chris’s heartstrings were pulled by the sight of Ollie sitting there, all by himself and in a state of melancholy. Ollie was a beloved and devoted friend who had left an impression on Chris’s heart. It was clear to him that he needed to aid him in some way.

As Chris approached Ollie, he silently vowed to never let the dog feel abandoned again. Kneeling down, he gently ran his fingers through Ollie’s fur and said softly, “You’re not alone, buddy. I’ve got you.”

Chris’s growing affection and concern for Ollie led him to make a heartfelt decision: he would take the dog home and give him the care and love he deserved. However, there was one small hurdle—his girlfriend Mila, with whom he shared an apartment, wasn’t particularly fond of pets, especially dogs. Chris knew convincing her wouldn’t be easy, but he was determined to find a way.

Chris was well aware that bringing a dog into their home was a significant and fraught with danger, and he was convinced that his fiancée would not agree with him. However, he was unable to abandon the unfortunate creature on the streets by itself.

In the evening, he approached the dog in a stealthy manner and handed him a biscuit before securing a leash to the collar of the canine. Chris managed to calm Ollie down and take him along with him, despite the fact that Ollie was afraid and attempted to escape.

As Chris and Ollie made their way home, Chris’s heart beat with a mixture of excitement and dread. He was aware that Mila would not be overjoyed about the new member of their family joining their household. On the other hand, he was confident in his choice and was resolute in his pursuit to persuade her to keep the dog forever.

Chris made a vow to himself that he would offer Ollie with a secure environment with each step that he took. However, his heart plummeted when he arrived home and gazed into the eyes of his lover since she was so angry. Upon seeing the dog, Mila’s anger was beyond comprehension.

Mila yelled at Chris, “What on earth is this dog doing here?” when she noticed Ollie peering at her from behind his knees. His large brown eyes were filled with a sense of hopelessness as they gazed at her.

She then remarked, “Take that thing away,” while taking a step back in complete disgust.

“Babe, he has nobody to take care of him…and he means no harm, okay? Please, can we have him? He is abandoned, and I found him in the market…Just look at him…he’s such an amazing dog, and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with him…just give him some time, babe…please. He needs us…he needs a loving home, and we have plenty of space in our apartment.”

Mila, however, was so irritated and obstinate that she could not continue to listen.

“Do you want us to wake up to his mid-morning howls gnawing at our brains to take him for a walk, Chris? Are you outta your mind? You cannot just bring any stray dog here…This is not an animal shelter. We have plenty of problems, and we’re already struggling. We cannot have him,” she told Chris in a loud voice.

“And I’m not gonna wake up every morning with a doggie bag in my hand, waiting to pick up fresh, warm poo, okay? And this thing will shed a lot…just look at his thick fur. You know I’m allergic to dogs…and I don’t want to get bitten. Look, I’m not welcoming this dog home, and that’s it. Take him outta here before I….”

Chris pleaded earnestly, “Come on, babe, Ollie is completely harmless. Just look at him!” Behind him, Ollie let out a soft whine, his fluffy tail curled neatly around his paws as he sat nervously on the floor. The dog’s anxious eyes darted between Chris and Mila, clearly unsettled by the raised voices and Mila’s resistance.

“He’s not going to hurt you,” Chris continued, his tone gentle but persistent. “Ollie’s the sweetest, most well-behaved dog. Everyone at the market loves him. I know you’re scared of dogs because of what happened when you were little, but not all dogs are the same. Just give him a chance, and I promise you won’t regret it—trust me.”

To win her over, Chris demonstrated Ollie’s tricks. “Look at this,” he said, holding out his hand. “Ollie, paw!” The dog obediently lifted a paw, and Chris smiled. “See? Now roll… good boy! And Ollie, up!” The Shiba Inu stood eagerly, wagging his tail, showcasing his obedience and charm.

Despite Chris’s efforts, Mila hesitated, her uncertainty still evident.

“Yeah, whatever! And you know what? If everybody you know loves him, then they can take him home. You’re just wasting your time with this dog. These things are only fit to eat and sleep all the time. Don’t expect me to clear his poo and pee, alright? If you want this dog home, you’ll have to clean all the mess, and I don’t want to see any fur on my clothes. And one more thing…he’s not allowed in our bedroom. I don’t want this dog anywhere near me…I’m warning you, Chris. If he messes up, then he’s outta here.”

hris felt a wave of partial relief when Mila finally agreed to let the dog stay. Sitting in the kitchen with his new furry companion by his side, he couldn’t shake the guilt weighing on him. As much as he adored dogs, Mila’s discomfort with them was something he couldn’t ignore. Yet Ollie wasn’t just any dog to Chris—he was more like a steadfast friend who had already claimed a special place in his heart.

Determined to make the situation work, Chris resolved to do whatever was necessary to bridge the gap, even if it meant sleeping on the kitchen floor with Ollie for a while until Mila warmed up to him.

That night, with Ollie curled up snugly against his leg, Chris fell asleep in the kitchen, feeling a quiet sense of joy for having done the right thing by giving the dog a home. But that happiness proved fleeting, lasting only for the night.

While Chris was searching for the puppy the following morning, he began to feel a rising sense of terror in his chest. “Ollie…hey boy…come here…where are you?” Ollie was no longer present.

He looked in every corner and cranny of the apartment and the kitchen, but Ollie was nowhere to be seen. He scoured the entire neighborhood. Chris felt as though he had been punched in the gut, and his heart fell as a result of the terrible quiet that encompassed the room. He could not face the idea of losing his newfound friend so soon after they had become friends.

He thought to himself, “Did he run away? Did Mila take him away while I was asleep and leave him on the street?” When he realized this, he quickly confronted his lover. However, Mila refuted his allegations and informed him that she had not seen Ollie that morning, which came as a surprise to him.

“Why would I even think of getting rid of him when you wanted him,” said Mila in her argument.

“Honey, I know you love dogs, okay? And I don’t like them, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get rid of something you love without telling you. You wanted to keep him, and I could do nothing much. I don’t like that dog, but I love you, so that’s why I agreed to keep him. I haven’t seen him since morning…trust me, babe. Maybe he’s run away to where he belonged or something. I told you you were wasting time with that dog. Now it’s your headache to find him. I have to do the dishes, so if you mind movin’….”

She let out a piercing scream at the top of her lungs as soon as Mila walked into the kitchen. Chris was startled by her loud cry, and he hurried inside to see exactly what it was.

Mila growled, “I told you…Now look at what that dog did,” and she was furious. “He has stolen the steak I’d kept on the table to thaw. You brought home a four-legged thief, Chris, and you better be sorry now. I knew that dog was a nuisance…I just knew it.”

Mila let out a delighted giggle and mocked Chris for taking a position for the dog the night before. “I’d still buy your words about that goddamn dog’s loyalty if it stole my dumb boyfriend instead of my precious steak,” Mila said. Chris had also taken a stand for the dog the night before.

As Mila laughed at Chris for his trust in Ollie, Chris’s thoughts began to race because of the situation. The idea that the dog would act in such a manner was incomprehensible to him. It was even possible for him to question whether or not he had made the correct decision in bringing Ollie back home.

Chris was dissatisfied as he commuted to work that morning, and he thought to himself, “Perhaps she was right!” “I shouldn’t have brought Ollie home…Now she’ll keep taunting me and won’t allow me to bring another dog home again. Thanks for doing this, Ollie…You broke my trust.”

Chris was taken aback when he arrived at the marketplace and found Ollie once again sitting in his usual spot outside the bike shop. The sight of the dog stirred a mix of emotions—frustration and a twinge of guilt.

As the day went on, Chris’s irritation with Ollie’s behavior deepened. He ignored the dog every time it approached him, tail wagging in hope. His anger lingered, fueled by the memory of Ollie stealing the steak and running off without a second thought.

Determined to teach Ollie a lesson, Chris decided not to share any of his lunch that day. He couldn’t shake the feeling of betrayal and remained upset with the dog’s actions.

Later that evening, as Chris prepared to leave, he spotted Ollie curled up outside the bike shop, looking despondent and hungry. Just then, a stranger tossed the dog a piece of stale bread. Chris watched as Ollie’s eyes lit up with joy. The dog eagerly snatched the bread and dashed out of the marketplace without even stopping to eat it.

Curiosity got the better of Chris. Where was Ollie taking all this food? Suspicious and determined to uncover the truth, Chris decided to follow him and find out.
When Chris was chasing after Ollie, he muttered, “Where is he going with the food without even taking a bite?” as he continued to pursue Ollie. Despite the fact that it had been a little more than two hours, the dog continued to gallop without stopping anywhere along the road to eat a piece of bread. After what seemed like an eternity, Ollie slowed down as he approached a remote neighborhood on the outskirts of the town.

Chris said in astonishment, “What is he doing here…this far away?” as he followed the dog to have a better understanding of his destination.

Next, he noticed Ollie making his way toward a house that was situated at the end of the lane and was surrounded by a number of outbuildings. It appeared as though the house had been deserted, and Chris was perplexed as to why the small dog was spending so much time outside and for whom he was providing food on a daily basis.

Ollie was distracted by Chris’s heavy footsteps as they walked on the rubble. However, the dog did not make any effort to wait for him. As he made his way toward the opposite side of the enclosure, he vaguely waved his tail and squeezed his small body through a hole that was located under a chain-link fence.

Chris became uncomfortable as he climbed the fence and landed on the property, following the dog toward the house. “What do you have in there, Ollie?” Chris asked this question as he scaled the fence.

Chris screamed out to Ollie once more, “Hey, boy…why are you digging under the door?” However, the dog was busily pawing a hole beneath the door by the time Chris called out to him again. Chris was under the impression that Ollie was attempting to intrude via the door, which was locked.

A few moments later, Chris was unable to comprehend what he had just seen take place. While Ollie was placing the loaf of bread in the small hole that he had dug, another dog began barking on the opposite side of the door and scratching fiercely at it.

With a sense of wonder, Chris peered through the window and then retreated in astonishment. The other side of the home was occupied by a large German Shepherd that was confined inside the house and was eating the loaf of bread.

Ollie softly moaned and wagged his tail while staring at Chris. Chris exclaimed, “Oh my God! So you’ve been bringing food for your buddy stuck in there!” as Ollie continued to follow Chris’s gaze.

Chris was able to hear the German Shepherd barking frantically, and it was obvious that the dog was experiencing some kind of crisis. Chris, who was aware that he needed to take action quickly, banged on the door and repeatedly yelled out to the owner of the house. But there was no response to that.

When Chris was searching for a clue, he thought to himself, “Weird…Where did the owner go, and why is that poor dog trapped inside the house? Who locked him in there?” Chris was searching through the surroundings in an attempt to find a clue.

Chris yelled out to everyone in the yard, “Hello…anyone there…hello…” but nobody was there to hear him. The outbuildings appeared to be deserted, and the home itself appeared to have been vacant for a considerable amount of time.

Chris was aware that the dog had been trapped inside that house for an undetermined amount of time and was in desperate need of assistance. In spite of his best efforts, he was unable to enter the house because all of the doors and windows were either open or locked.

In the event that Chris was unable to locate any other entrance points, he made the decision to contact the authorities in order to rescue the German Shepherd and discover the location where the owner had vanished. A peculiar occurrence caught Chris’s notice just as he was finishing up his conversation with the operator on the 911 system.

When he smelled what appeared to be the stink of something rotting in one of the neighboring buildings, he scowled and grabbed his nose in disgust. “Jesus, what is that awful smell?” he asked.

Just as Chris was making his way to the source of the odor, the police arrived and took control of the situation.

It was he who introduced himself to the sheriff, saying, “Officer, I was the one who called… My name is Chris.” “There’s a big dog trapped in that house, and I think the owner is missing.”

What Chris saw a few moments later shattered his heart and sent him to tears. The police had broken the door open and were able to see what was inside. The lack of food and water caused a large German Shepherd to appear weak and emaciated. It was pulled out on a leash and brought out into the open. Chris was overcome with emotion when he watched the dog shakily standing on its paws. Tears poured down his face. It appeared as though he had not eaten well in days, and the only source of nourishment that was keeping him alive was the food that Ollie had been bringing him on a daily basis.

“Hey, Max…hey boy…don’t worry…you’re safe and free now,” Chris said as he caressed the dog with a reassuring touch after noticing his name on the collar. “No need to worry about anything,” Chris said.

When Chris found out that the owner had abandoned the dogs in such deplorable conditions, he became quite angry. And at precisely the moment when he was making his way to the police station to lodge a complaint, he noticed two officers rushing around with a crime scene tape in the direction of one of the outbuildings that was emitting the putrid odor.

After a few moments, Chris’s mouth began to quiver, and he came dangerously close to throwing up as he witnessed the decayed body of a guy being transported on a stretcher. It came as an even greater surprise to him when he discovered that the deceased individual was the proprietor of the bike business who had vanished a few weeks earlier.

Chris was informed by the sheriff that the cause of death of Mr. Lawrence had not yet been determined or established. “Sources suggest he was a heart patient who lived alone here with his two dogs. It could’ve been a heart attack, but we’re yet to be sure…And these dogs will be sent to the shelter.”

Despite the fact that Chris’s heart was pounding, he was adamant about not abandoning the poor dogs. After seeing how much they were suffering and the tragic turn of events, he was aware that he could not abandon them. As a result, he had a conversation with the law enforcement officer and agreed to adopt the dogs and bring them back to his house.

While Max was being treated at the veterinary hospital for his recovery, Chris brought Ollie home with him. He did this since he was aware that Mila would be angry with him once more.

“Not again, Chris. I thought we’d lost him,” Mila scowled as she noticed Ollie lying beneath Chris’s legs and looked up at her with large eyes that begged her to come out of his hiding place.

Ollie, to her astonishment, began to approach her in a patient manner while wagging his tail. A paw was offered to Mila by the dog, who had a look of eagerness in his large eyes that were a coffee brown color. As soon as the gentle pads of his paw made contact with Mila’s palm, tears began to well up in her eyes. When Chris later informed her about the meeting that day, her heart softened, and she consented to adopt the two dogs. Chris’s story was the catalyst for her decision. After a couple of weeks had passed, Chris and Mila were the happiest dog parents in the world when they brought Max down from the hospital and brought him home.

Which lessons can we take away from the story?

You should never give up on your pet simply because you believe it will be able to survive on its own. You may not be aware of how harsh the world really is, but the truth is that it is. Mila couldn’t agree with the idea of keeping Ollie at home because she has a strong aversion to canines. Despite the fact that she was unaware of the suffering that the poor creature had been through, she made an effort to persuade Chris to abandon the dog on the street and return it to its original location.
The affection that a dog has for its owner is completely unadulterated and unadulterated. It is possible for a dog to remain faithful to the very end, even in situations where the people around it might betray you. When people looked at Ollie, they saw him as nothing more than a typical abandoned dog. Some individuals, such as Mila, even questioned his loyalty. However, Ollie demonstrated the power of love and compassion by giving up his food in order to provide sustenance for his companion, a German Shepherd named Max, who was confined within the isolated dwelling.
