I Was Stunned to See My Husband Leaving a Maternity Clinic in a Luxury Suit Holding Two Babies
Emma’s world fell apart when she saw her husband, Jacob, leaving a maternity ward with two infants in his fine suit. She followed the trail, determined to find the truth.
It began like any other morning. Staring down at the two pink lines on the test in front of me, I was in the kitchen. expecting a child. Once more. My hand automatically went to my stomach.

Something in me rejoiced. Isn’t a baby a blessing? But my chest constricted as reality set in. What were we going to do about this?
My nanny job hardly pays for groceries, and Jacob already puts in a lot of effort as a caretaker. We need new shoes for our 7-year-old, Tommy, and our automobile has been producing a noise that is expensive to fix.
Lacing up his boots, Jacob sat in the living room. As usual, his shoulders bowed under the weight of the world.
“You’re up early,” he replied in a steady voice.
“Busy day,” I made an effort to smile. “I have to drop Tommy off before going to the Jenkins’. The twins are quite annoying.
Pulling his boots tighter, he nodded. He laughed and remarked, “It’s still better than mopping floors,” but his eyes did not meet his laughter.
Not wanting to push him, I nodded in return. Jacob never complained about carrying so much. I was unable to put this on his plate. Not quite yet.

I took Tommy to meet his grandmother that day and then went to see my doctor. With the exception of the occasional muffled cough and the hum of fluorescent lights, the clinic was silent. As I waited for Dr. Patel to return with my results, I sat in the exam room tapping my foot.
Then I caught sight of him.
I initially believed that I was deceiving myself. Jacob couldn’t be it, could he? But there he was, making his way to the maternity wing down the hall. However, that wasn’t the Jacob I was familiar with.
He had on a slick black suit that I had only seen on television. A gleaming watch on his wrist caught the light with each step, and his hair was neatly brushed. The fact that he was carrying two newborns covered in pastel blankets, however, was what really made my stomach turn.
“Jacob?” I remained motionless as I whispered. I tried to speak louder, but my voice became stuck in my throat. “Jacob!”
He didn’t give me a glance.
“Hey Jacob! Why are you here? With a cracked voice, I yelled.

Nothing. As if he hadn’t heard me, he simply continued to walk. I saw him step outside and climb into a fancy black automobile.
With my heart racing, I stood in the hallway and gazed at the door that Jacob had left. My thoughts was filled with enquiries. That car, his clothing, and those babies didn’t make sense.
“Answers,” I whispered to myself. “I need answers.”
I pulled the door open and entered the ward. The soft pastel walls were highlighted by the brilliant light streaming in through the wide windows. A woman was meticulously folding baby items and putting a high-end luggage near the corner. As I walked in, she looked up.
I initially froze. With her flawlessly maintained auburn hair and a face that looked like it belonged on magazine covers, she was tall, graceful, and attractive. Even in the informal surroundings of a hospital, she radiated richness and sophistication in her silk robe.

“Can I help you?” she enquired in a courteous but circumspect tone.
I tightened my fists and spoke in a tremulous voice. “My name is Emma. I’m trying to find Jacob, my husband.
Her face was devoid of colour. “Your… husband?”
I firmly answered, “Yes,” and took a step forward. “Jacob. He just left this room with two babies in his arms. I take it that it’s yours?”
She blinked quickly before easing herself into the chair next to the bed. “Hold on. Are you implying that Jacob is wed?
I gave a sour laugh. “You were unaware? For the record, Jacob and I have been married for nine years. Let me explain. I am eight weeks pregnant with our second kid, and we have a 7-year-old boy. Do you want to explain what’s happening here?
The woman gave me a fixed look and then started talking. “Jacob told me he was divorced.”

“Of course he did,” I snapped. “And while we’re at it, can you explain how my caretaker husband who can barely afford to fix our car managed to impress someone like you?”
She stood up with her arms crossed and her eyes narrowed. “Hold on a minute. Janitor, what do you mean? Jacob claimed to have inherited a fortune from his father, a successful businessman.
The floor seemed to have collapsed beneath me. “What?” I muttered.
Disbelief surged in the woman’s voice. “Yes! Two years ago, he informed me that he was on a business trip in the city. He was dining at one of the priciest restaurants in town and driving a gorgeous car of some luxury brand. It was there that we met. He claimed to have just been here for a few days, but he chose to stay once we began dating.
I shook my head, finding it difficult to comprehend her words. “No, that isn’t possible. For years, we have been having difficulties. Even trips are out of our price range, let alone fancy cars or exquisite meals.
For a while, we sat in quiet as Jacob’s falsehoods weighed heavily on us both. The woman broke the stillness at last.

“My name is Clara,” she murmured quietly. “And if what you’re telling me is true, then I think we both deserve to hear the truth from him.”
With a forceful voice, I nodded. “We will go up against him. Together.
After a hasty drive to Clara’s estate, we discovered Jacob holding one of the twins in the nursery. His expression briefly changed from one of surprise to one of pure panic as he looked up.
“Emma? Why are you here? He stumbled.
I said, “You tell me, Jacob,” angrily. “Why are you here, dressed like a movie star, holding babies that aren’t mine?”
The mistress stared at him while crossing her arms. “And why didn’t you tell me you were married?”
With a sigh, Jacob placed the infant in the cot. “Look, I can explain.”
“Then explain!” we both uttered simultaneously.
Jacob paced the room while running a hand over his hair. “My dad passed away two years ago. I inherited $300,000 from him.
“What?” I blinked. “You told me he had nothing!”

Jacob let out a sigh. “I explained to Clara that I was in town for work. I got her to believe me. I believed that I could have a new life and make it work. Emma, I was about to tell you, but…”
“But what?” I yelled. “You ran out of money?”
The mistress, her face white with rage, stepped forward. “You told me your father was a millionaire, that you were waiting for the rest of the estate to clear!”
Jacob flinched. “I… might’ve stretched the truth.”
She growled, “Stretched the truth?” “You misled me! To us both!”
Jacob held out his hands. “Look, I had no intention of things getting this far. I was going to work things out myself. I simply wanted a means of getting out of this mess.
My heart was exploding as I gazed at him. “You required an escape route? Jacob, you already had a family.

The mistress looked across at me. “I’ve had enough of him. And you ought to be as well.
That night, Jacob just had the clothing on his back as he left. We both didn’t want to see him again.
I filed for divorce the next week. I had to do it even if it wasn’t easy. Tommy was worthy of better. I was worthy of better.
Clara decided for herself. Her words, “He’s not coming near these babies,” were forceful. “I’ll handle things on my end.”
I gave a nod. “All right. I also don’t want him close to my family.

Clara gave me a call a few days later. She said, “Emma, I’ve been thinking,” “You obviously care about your family, and you’re strong. Although it may sound odd, I could use someone like you.

“Someone like me?” With caution, I asked.
In her own words, “As a nanny,” “With the twins, I need assistance. You can live at the staff house and I’ll pay you generously. Considering everything, it’s the least I can do.
I was taken aback. I was unsure of what to say at first, but I finally consented. In my story, Clara wasn’t the bad guy. We both wanted to go on, and she was as deceived as I was.
My second kid, a gorgeous baby girl, was born three months later. I was living in a modest but cosy home on Clara’s estate while working as her nanny. I felt stable for the first time in years.

Even though my life wasn’t what I had anticipated, it was still mine. I was stronger than I had ever imagined being, yet Jacob was gone.
Betrayal can occasionally result in freedom. And liberty? It was all worth it.
