New Mother Turns Pale After Nurse Brings the Wrong Baby — Story of the Day

Before being discharged, the nurse took Lucy’s twins for a routine checkup. However, when the nurse returned the babies, Lucy was stunned. She had delivered a boy and a girl, but the nurse came back holding two baby girls.

After a lengthy period of attempting to conceive, Lucy and her husband Ross were ecstatic to learn they were having twins.

The couple had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of their twins, especially after the ultrasound confirmed they were expecting a boy and a girl. However, when the nurse returned after the routine checkup, she brought back two baby girls. Lucy’s heart sank, and her face turned pale.

“My son is missing! Where is he? And whose baby is this other girl?” she exclaimed, her voice trembling as she confronted the nurse who had just handed her the babies.

Savannah, the nurse, replied, “They are your daughters, ma’am,” as she stared at the paperwork. “I double-checked the reports and I’m confident there is no error.”

“Have you lost your senses?” Lucy lost her temper. “As evidence that I was meant to give birth to a boy and a girl, I have all the reports with me. And upon birth, I was told the same thing. They can’t possibly be both girls.

When Lucy looked up from her paperwork, she saw the fear in the nurse’s eyes. Just as she opened her mouth to speak, Dr. Linda Carter entered. “Please don’t say anything, ma’am. She told Lucy, “This is a hospital, and there are other patients.”

“Silence? “Really?” Lucy gave her a fierce look. “Your nurse tells me she’s not wrong after bringing me a random youngster! Is that the way the administration of your hospital works? Should I get in touch with the chief physician and let him know what’s going on?”

“Doctor, I concur with my wife. We also don’t want to make a scene,” Ross said. However, your nurse is telling lies. We’ll have to call the police if we don’t get our boy back, but we don’t know why she’s acting that way.”

“Please, sir, calm down,” Dr. Carter urged. “There must be a simple miscommunication. For a number of years, Savannah has been employed at this institution. She might have brought the wrong paperwork. Could I look at the documents, Savannah? Dr. Carter asked. Savannah, however, refused to give it to her and began stuttering, “There’s no need, ma’am…I mean, I looked it over, and they’re all right.

Sensing that anything was amiss, Dr. Carter reassured her gently, “It’s okay. I’ll check the reports right now. But after reading them, she saw Lucy was right.

As she turned the pages, she said, “Please give me a minute, ma’am,” “I think Savannah brought the wrong documents. Savannah became confused when she saw Lucy Matthews, another patient.

Lucy scowled at her and remarked, “I’m glad you noticed your mistake,” “I would recommend that you hire responsible people as members of the staff the next time!”

“I’m sorry, ma’am,” Dr. Carter said once again as she looked from Savannah to her. “Savannah, would you mind coming with me? Please locate the appropriate reports for me.

Dr. Carter was quickly followed by Savannah, but Lucy noticed the tears in her eyes as she turned to leave. She chose to follow Dr. Carter and Savannah because she had a weird feeling they were up to something.

She heard someone sobbing as she saw them both walk into Dr. Carter’s clinic. She thought it must be Savannah. Lucy sat on one of the seats just outside the room and listened to what they had to say, luckily, because the door was slightly open.

“What were you thinking, Savannah?” Dr. Carter’s voice was forceful. At 10:30 a.m. today, Lucy Matthews gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. That was even stated in the reports. You’re lying to them, but why? “Be truthful!”

Savannah wailed, “I didn’t have a choice, ma’am,” “My sister is the owner of the other newborn daughter. She didn’t survive after giving birth, and her husband had left her when he found out she was pregnant. My spouse declined to adopt her, even though I could have.

“Why don’t you place her in a nursing home?” Dr. Carter suggested. “She’d be well taken care of there.”

“Ma’am, I’m afraid I can’t. Savannah cried, “It was my sister’s final desire for her daughter to be raised in a loving home.”

“I felt Mrs. Matthews and her husband would make a lovely family when I saw them this morning and how they were helping each other out. I therefore made the decision to put my sister’s daughter in a nursing home and exchange Mrs. Matthew’s kid for hers.

Dr. Carter said, “But that’s not right, Savannah,” “We must prevent that from occurring. Get the son of Mrs. Matthews immediately. Indeed, we should keep this private between us. I’ll see what I can do to help you.

The narrative had brought tears to Lucy’s eyes. The children were exchanged with no malign intent. A defenseless woman wished for her niece to grow up in a beautiful family. To be honest, I feel bad for the child. Lucy went back to her room and thought.

Dr. Carter came back to Lucy’s room a few minutes later and gave her newborn boy to her. “I apologize for the confusion, ma’am. “On behalf of my staff, I apologize,” Dr. Carter stated.

Lucy chose not to complain about her after hearing the entire tale earlier. However, every time she attempted to sleep at home that night, the unfortunate girl kept coming back to her mind, and her innocent face would flash right before her eyes.

“I can’t forget about her, Ross,” Lucy said to her husband the following morning during breakfast. In my dream from yesterday, I saw a female who had accidentally entered our home and was living in harmony with us. I can’t stop thinking about that, even though I know it doesn’t make sense.”

Ross clarified, “It’s because of what happened yesterday, honey,” “Try to find something else to divert your attention. Let’s go somewhere, shall we? You’ll feel better.

Lucy said, “No, Ross,” glancing at him. “I don’t want to abandon that child. I’d like to adopt her.

“But honey!” Ross sobbed. “Are you certain? A third child would be too much to handle on top of the two we already have! Avoid making snap judgments! We must exercise common sense.

“I know what you mean, Ross, but please. I am unable to convince myself. After thinking about it all night, I made the decision to adopt her. Would it be possible for us to visit the hospital today?

“All right, honey. I support you in all of your choices, but I’m concerned that it will be too much work for you.

“Ross, I can handle it. Would you please?” Lucy demanded.

After holding the child in his arms, Ross’s initial opposition to the adoption altered. She continued to stare at him, her eyes brown with a hint of green. To put it mildly, Ross was struck by her naive appearance.

“I’m glad you, Mr. and Mrs. Matthews, thought about adopting her. “She’s really fortunate,” the doctor informed them.

“Well, doctor, we’ve tried a lot for kids, and we can’t just ignore them now when they want to see us. Tell me when we can bring her home, please,” Lucy pleaded.

“It’ll take some time, but for now, I’ll submit the documents to expedite the process.”

It took a while, as the doctor had indicated, but Lucy and Ross were happy with their choice. They felt like their family was completely complete when they brought the child home. The infant girl was given the name Amelia.

Savannah couldn’t stop thanking Lucy and Ross for adopting the child, so she went to visit them. She has since established herself as a regular at the Matthews’ and spends most of her weekends with Lucy’s children, Amelia, Mark, and the twins Sia.

What does this narrative teach us?

Relationships are not always based on blood; they can be built through love and care. A lovely illustration of this is the adoption of Amelia by Lucy and Ross as their child.
There are some lovely accidents. Simply because Savannah wanted Amelia to be adopted by a good family, she took her to Lucy. Ultimately, the unfortunate youngster was fortunate to have a wonderful home.
