Husband Keeps a Heartbreaking Secret for 40 Years to Protect His Wife — Story of the Day

Husband Pretends to Be Infertile for 40 Years So His Wife Won’t Know She Can’t Have Kids — Story of the Day

Sorting through his late mother’s old belongings, Andrew stood in the front hall of the family home. In his heart, he wished he could sell Mom’s house the way it was, with the purchasers handling the antique décor, furnishings, and houseplants.

“Dad? Something strange was discovered within. Louise, Andrew’s adopted daughter, sobbed in the hallway.

After dropping the box he was holding that was wrapped in bubble wrap, Andrew rushed to his mother’s bedroom. Fear taking over, he questioned, “What’s this?” as he noticed Louise holding a blue folder.

“Louise, if those are medical documents from Mom’s gynecological office, they have to be burned. Give that to me,” Andrew said, leaning forward.

“Did you hear me?” Louise gestured toward the first page’s note. “Mom is mentioned as being infertile. However, Dad, you have consistently claimed that you adopted me due to your infertility.

“Louise, please hand me the folder; there must be an error. Andrew insisted that you can’t make your mother angry over a mistake, but Louise sensed her father was keeping something from her.

“Are you hiding this from Mom?”

“Of course not!” Andrew laughed. “Why would I hide something from her?”

“Then I’m showing this to her!” Louise held on to the folder.

Andrew’s face was drained of blood, and he realized that telling Nina the truth was the only way to stop Louise from revealing her the folder.

“You’re correct! I’m keeping your mother in the dark about something. But when I explain everything, I hope you’ll see why.

Forty years ago…

When 16-year-old Andrew and his pals arrived, the celebration was already in full swing. Andrew couldn’t take his eyes off Nina after he saw her dancing. She had been flawless in every way!

“Will you dance with me?” Andrew went over to Nina.

After dancing to some mellow background music, Nina grinned broadly and they spent hours conversing while sipping beer.

The next thing that Andrew and Nina knew, they were completely inebriated and making love in a strange bedroom down the corridor.

When Andrew awoke the following morning, regrets swept over him like a tidal wave. Knowing that only his mother could assist him, he hurried to her.

Andrew reluctantly said, “Mom, I…uh, need your help,” to his mother. “I went to a party last night, and I….”

Unaware of what Andrew was going to admit, his mother listened carefully.

“You know, I met this gorgeous girl, and we…we. We succeeded! However, I didn’t utilize birth control. “Now, Mom, what if she becomes pregnant?” Andrew shocked his mother by spilling out.

“You WHAT? How could you have been so foolish? Mom gave a bark. “Underage sex comes with risks…you don’t know where that girl has been before, Andrew.”

Andrew gave a nod. “Mom, Nina is a good girl. She is not that way.

“I’m not interested. An STD test will be administered to you. Mom leaned across the table and said, “And I’m going to give you something for the girl to ensure she doesn’t get pregnant.” “You make sure she takes all of it, understand?”

Andrew’s next week was a living horror. He received daily lectures from his mother, a gynecologist, who advised him to refrain from having sex until he finished medical school.

She wasn’t prepared to ruin her son’s medical career over a single, careless error. Andrew was forced to concur.

“All right. And one day, Mom added, “And time’s running out, Andrew.” “When will you next see that girl? Before it’s too late, we must resolve your issue.”

Andrew answered, “Mom, I have a date with Nina this weekend.”

Andrew took Nina to the cinema that weekend. He instructed her to wait while he got them drinks and snacks after they had taken their seats.

Andrew used the crushed sleeping tablets Mom had given him to tamper with Nina’s orange drink on his way back to the theater. Despite his shame, he took the chance since he knew that if he stopped Mom’s plan, she would be upset.

“Andy, I’m not feeling well,” After drinking the juice, Nina leaned over and asked Andrew to drive her home. “I think I’m going to throw up.”

Mom gave Andrew a chilly nod when he told her when he arrived home later that evening.

She exclaimed, “Sounds like it worked!”

Today…

“How could you do such a terrible thing, Dad?” Andrew made Louise angry. “Why did you not consider what Mom would’ve been through?”

Andrew remarked, “I didn’t love Nina then…not that it justifies what I did was right,” with sad eyes. “And we never dated again after that night.”

“Oh no! I don’t get it. How did you two get married if you didn’t date?

“I guarantee that after I finish speaking, you will have the answers to all of your inquiries. The narrative doesn’t get much better, though, I warn you. Do you really want to find out the rest? Andrew’s eyes met Louise’s.

She answered, “I want to know everything!”

“Fine…” Andrew went on.

Thirty-two years ago…

While completing his residency, Andrew was halted in his tracks by a familiar figure. In the waiting area, he noticed Nina reading a magazine.

She smiled as she said, “I know you!” “We went on a few dates in high school…your name’s Andrew, right?”

Andrew gave a nod. “What are you doing here, Nina?”

“I have an appointment for an eye infection,” Nina replied. “Judging by that coat and stethoscope, I guess I’m here to see you!”

Andrew checked Nina’s eye while they conversed. He asked her if she would like to get coffee with him after the assessment. When she consented, his heart jumped in his chest.

After a few dates, Andrew quickly came to the conclusion that he was completely smitten with Nina. When he told Mom that he intended to marry Nina, she was apprehensive, but Andrew was unyielding.

After just six months of engagement, they were married in a small ceremony with a beach theme.

The newlyweds were happy in their marriage until they made the decision to have children. Nina and Andrew decided to see a doctor after several months and multiple unsuccessful attempts.

“Mom is among this city’s best gynecologists. Andrew said to Nina, “I’ll ask her if she can help us.” She consented, and they soon went to the clinic to see Andrew’s mother.

“I had a pelvic infection when I was younger,” Nina admitted to her mother. “I had to be admitted to the hospital for a while.”

As she made a note on Nina’s file, Mom nodded. “How old were you at this time?”

“Sixteen!” Nina turned to Andrew and answered. It happened shortly after our second date ended badly. Remember, Andy? I was so unwell that I had to leave early.

Andrew nodded anxiously. Mom, though, was composed. How was she able to remain calm when Nina had just disclosed that she had contracted an infection following the administration of those contraceptive pills?

Mom said to Andrew and Nina, “I’ll make an appointment for some blood tests on Tuesday.” She also said she would go to a urologist she knew about getting Andrew examined.

Mom paged Andrew that night to ask him to have a private meeting with her.

Mom told Andrew, “I’ve got bad news,” as soon as he got the family. “I was afraid to speak in front of Nina due to…

…we are to blame for her infertility. Nina most likely contracted an infection following our administration of the abortion-inducing medication.

In silence, Andrew tried to think about what he and his mother had done to Nina.

“It sometimes happens after using these drugs…but we gave it to her as a precautionary measure,” her mother said. “I didn’t believe it would make a difference. You have the last say over how we move forward, Andrew.

“Excellent! When something goes wrong, I get to make the decision? Andrew lost his temper. “Giving her those medicines was never my idea. However, I must face the repercussions.”

“Grow up, Andrew,” said Mom. “I prevented your future from being ruined by doing what was right for you. Now you’re a guy. Act like one, then.

“Act like a man??” Andrew’s jaw tightened. He wanted to cry, but he realized that until Nina found out, it wouldn’t help either of them.

Andrew, however, was unwilling to risk seeing her go through that suffering.

“That urologist you mentioned…will he tell a lie if we asked him to?” Andrew glanced up at his mother.

“You want to pretend you’re the one who’s infertile, don’t you?” she responded.

“I have no other option. I can’t let Nina believe that her infertility is her fault. I can’t be honest with her. I can’t picture my life without her, and she would abandon me.”

Mom agreed and said, “All right, I’ll talk to Kevin, the urologist.” “You must make sure she keeps taking tests. This entire scheme will collapse around us if she ever chooses to obtain a second alternative.”

Andrew believed that if he took responsibility for their infertility, the issue would be resolved. However, he was mistaken. In vitro fertilization was something Nina wanted to attempt.

“I just want to be a mother,” she sobbed one night when she was in bed. “I am aware that you are not to blame. However, I wish we could do something.

Andrew was aware that Nina would be devastated if she ever found out that she was the one who was infertile and the reason they didn’t have children. He therefore recommended adoption.

“Adoption?” Nina took a whiff. However, I don’t believe things would be the same. I will never hear the baby’s first cry or feel their tiny feet kick inside of me.

Andrew stated, “But there’s so much you’ll experience…like their first day of school, their first steps,” in an attempt to persuade Nina to concur.

“Love, motherhood is more than just being pregnant. After we bring a child home, there will be more amazing experiences for you to enjoy. What are your thoughts?

The smile said, “I’m already thinking,” Nina said. Additionally, I’ve always desired a daughter. Is it possible for us to adopt a girl?

Andrew concluded, “…so Mom helped me lie to Nina for years,” “But the day you entered our lives, Louise, was the day Nina found peace.”

“Nina would have been devastated to learn the truth. However, I would never permit such to occur. Therefore, my only option was to take the responsibility by making her believe that I was infertile.

Louise just gave a subtle nod without saying anything. Her eyes were full with sorrow, and there was a solemn quiet.

“I know I acted selfishly,” Andrew went on to say. “But wouldn’t it also have been selfish to tell Nina the truth when there was nothing I could do to set things right?”

Louise set the folder down next to Andrew and got up to go over to the messy pile of Mom’s framed medical degrees on the dressing table.

She picked one up, and Louise examined it for a moment before throwing it to the ground, slamming it into the glass frame with a loud crack.

“Let’s go home now, Dad,” Louise said, stomping on Mom’s qualification. “I never want to step foot in this house again.”
