Son Sends His 80-Year-Old Mother to a Nursing Home, but Years Later, She’s Nowhere to Be Found — Story of the Day

Son Kicks Out 80-Year-Old Mother to Nursing Home, Years Later Doesn’t Find Her There — Story of the Day

He made the decision to take Edith back in, but she wasn’t there when he arrived at the nursing home.

When Henry Griffith was just four years old, his father passed away, leaving him to be raised by his single mother, Edith. Edith loved Henry more than anything, and she made every effort to ensure that he didn’t miss anything because he entered her life late.

Similarly, Henry loved Edith as much as she loved him and was always available to help her in any way he could. However, when Henry found his “love,” Courtney Jackson, while attending college, their relationship started to deteriorate.

They used their funds from part-time jobs to purchase a small condo after Courtney persuaded Henry to move in with her during their first month of dating. After they were married a few years later, Courtney started secretly pressuring Henry to live with Edith in order to save money for a bigger home down the road.

When she saw that Henry was a little apprehensive, Courtney convinced him that living with Edith would also benefit her because they would be able to “care” for her more effectively. They soon moved in with Edith after Henry fell for that.

When their newborn son, whom they called Liam, was born three years later, Courtney forced Edith to do all housework, saying she didn’t have enough time because she was a new mother. When Henry wasn’t home, she also went out with her friends and utilized Edith as a babysitter.

One day, Edith protested to Henry about Courtney’s treatment of her, but Courtney made it all about herself, so Edith had to say sorry.

There was no need for Courtney to have Edith in the house while Liam grew up and there was no need to watch him.

She then started agitating Henry against Edith, frequently making up stories about how Edith was disabled and never assisted her with housework, or how she smelled horrible and was unable to do anything on her own since she was confined to a wheelchair. She implied that a nursing home would be a better place for Edith.

Henry was initially against the idea. He would never abandon his mother in a nursing home or other type of facility. As a result, he and Courtney began to argue, and although Edith was sad to hear that she was the cause of their argument, she was glad Henry loved her enough to let her go.

However, Courtney eventually had the opportunity to evict Edith from the house when she fell pregnant for the second time a year later.

When it all occurred, Courtney was very pregnant, and one day she became ill. She blamed everything on Edith, even though it was her fault because she neglected herself.

“Henry,” she said. “The worst could have occurred today, but I know you love your mom. I’m glad the doctor prescribed some drugs for me. I will recover, but your mother poses a risk to our unborn child.”

“Courtney, it was only an allergy. You must have accidentally taken something.

“No, Henry,” pressed Courtney. “I’m sure it was because your mom…well, she made lunch today, and after that, I fell sick.”

“What? Are you serious? However, mom no longer cooks! How did she do that?

“I’m attempting to suggest that…she Henry, we should get her into a nursing home before it’s too late, even if she did it accidentally. She’s turning into a danger. She made me lunch today, and after eating it, I felt ill. Her behavior could hurt our kids the next time. We must give this careful consideration.

When Henry thought of his children’s safety, his maternal instincts overcame his inability to send Edith to a nursing facility. He decided that his mother should be placed in a nursing facility.

“Mom,” he said to Edith at that evening’s meal. “I was considering a nursing home because you’re in a wheelchair and I can’t always be there to take care of you. Yes, I suppose it would be fantastic, and there would be people there to take care of you.”

“A nursing home?” With teary eyes, Edith whispered. “But I’m all right here, Henry. I don’t require more attention. I can take care of myself.”

“No, mom,” Henry cut in. “You’re not getting it. I must send you. There is nothing else we can do. For Courtney, myself, and everyone else, that’s the greatest option. Get your belongings ready by tomorrow am. Before I leave for work, I’ll drop you off.”

Unable to comprehend that Henry was putting her to a nursing home, Edith was paralyzed. Courtney was grinning broadly when she turned to face him.

Although Edith was aware that she was the reason behind Courtney and Henry’s arguments, she never imagined that Courtney would deceive Henry to the point where she would eventually be expelled. However, she gave up and consented to go to the nursing home since she was sick of constantly proving her innocence.

“Can I ask you a favor before I leave, Henry?” She looked at her hands on her lap and asked, shaky.

“Yeah?”

“When I’m there, will you come see me? At least on the weekends, although not very often.”

His response was, “Sure, mom,” “No doubts about that!”

She murmured, “Well, then, thank you,” and left for her room.

Sadly, Henry never paid her a visit. After few months, his second child was born. Before deciding to see his old mother three years later and learning that she was no longer residing at the nursing home, he became so consumed with raising his children that he had forgotten about her.

Over the past three years, Henry’s life had gotten worse. When he confronted Courtney about cheating on him with his best buddy, she openly admitted it. As if that weren’t enough, she had evicted him from his home and moved all of his assets into her name. That wasn’t all, though.

Liam despised Henry because Courtney incited him against him. Liam once told him that he didn’t want him in his presence. Henry then recalled Edith and how he had expelled her.

Henry wanted to bring her back and apologize to her for his terrible error. But he didn’t see her at the nursing home when he got there. He asked the reception desk about her, and that’s when he found out something startling. “She left here two years ago,” the receptionist said, examining Edith’s file further.

“What? However, where is she now? Desperate for explanations, Henry grumbled, “I’m her only surviving relative.”

With a sigh, the receptionist set a sheet of paper down on the table. Her instructions were, “Go to this address,” “She left after getting married to David, our former janitor. After all, why wouldn’t she? She often complained that her son showed no interest in her.

She was regarded by David as though she were a member of his family. They had fallen deeply in love. They were worthy of being together.

Henry was shocked by what he heard. Because of him, his mother was miserable and all alone! He went to the address on the note because he wanted to make things right with her.

After several hours, he stopped in front of a dilapidated cottage close to a small farm. He knocked with a groan, and Edith answered. She appeared much happier and healthier than previously, even though she was still in a wheelchair.

“Henry? My boy, oh! How did you? “….”

Henry was unable to look her in the eyes because he was so ashamed. He lowered his head in embarrassment.

He whispered, “I’m sorry, mom,” and wiped away his tears. “I’m sorry for everything I’ve done so far. Since I lost my kids to Courtney after she divorced me and evicted me, I can relate to how you felt when I forced you into a nursing facility.

Mom, I understand how painful it is to only see my kids occasionally. If at all possible, please pardon me.

“Jesus!” Edith exclaimed. “Henry, when did all of this happen?”

“Mom, three years have passed. I don’t blame anyone, though. This is something I deserve.

She responded, “No, Henry, you don’t!” and Henry gave her a startled look. “Henry, two wrongs do not equal one right. It is absurd to have a tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye! As I did, wise people move on. Long ago, I forgave you. Come on over here. She gave him a back pat and a hug.

“Even though what you did was terrible and completely incorrect, you recognized it and wanted to make amends. Forgiveness is due to those who wish to change their ways. Therefore, quit criticizing yourself.

With tears in his eyes, he said, “You’re not angry at me?” “Oh! I’m grateful, mother. I’m delighted you’re content with David. At the elderly home, I learned. I’m very pleased for you.

“Oh, Henry, you are loved. Having you back makes me very pleased. David is eager to meet you.

Henry praised David for taking care of his mother for so long when they reunited later that day. In order to never be too far from Edith again, he also purchased a house near their residence.

A month later, Henry used his savings to surprise David and Edith with a destination wedding in Miami. The elderly couple’s wedding was a lovely affair. Henry met Clara there, who welcomed him along with David and Edith, and the three of them moved in together as a happy family.

What does this narrative teach us?

The love of a mother knows no limits. Edith was forgiving of Henry in spite of his severe actions.
Karma is unavoidable. After evicting Edith once, Henry lost everything, including his house and kids.

Never believe what other people think about you. If Henry had not trusted Courtney when she referred to Edith as “dangerous” to his family, he would not have endured as much suffering.
