Police Act Fast After Spotting Baby in Car — Then Discover a Surprise

Police officer finds baby in boiling hot car – smashes window but realizes he’s made a big mistake

In the past, we have discussed the situation in which parents go shopping and leave their children in the car if the temperature is high.

Engaging in such behaviour is not just irresponsible but also risky. If the youngster is left alone for an excessive amount of time, they may experience heatstroke, faint, and perhaps possibly pass away.

During extremely hot days, it occurs frequently enough for law enforcement officers to get concerned about the situation and keep a watchful eye out for any infants that may be present in parking lots.

Jason Short, a police officer from Keene, New Hampshire, is an example of such a person. On a day when the temperature was quite high, he was on duty when he received a call about a baby who had been left in a car by itself in the parking lot of a Walmart.

However, he never in his wildest dreams would have conceived of what would take place after that.

Immediately after receiving the call regarding the infant, Jason did not waste any time in making his way to the location.

It was during an interview with WMUR that he stated, “I arrived there as quickly as I could.” Although I am unsure of the speed at which I was moving, it was a rapid pace.

When Jason arrived, he was able to make out a baby that was wrapped in a blanket and had its feet hanging out through the windows of the car.

On a day that was quite hot, Jason was clueless about the length of time the infant had been present. For the purpose of rescuing the infant, he used his baton to break the window open.

Even though Jason carefully lifted the infant out of the vehicle, he was concerned that it might already be dead. In addition to having a peculiar skin tone, it appeared to be dead and was quite pale.

Soon after, a throng began to gather, and Jason started conducting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). It was decided to send an ambulance to the location.

It was at that moment that Jason became aware that something was not quite right. Something was really off, he started to get the impression.

That is when the realisation came to him. What he was holding was, in reality, a doll that was very lifelike, and it was not a baby at all.

According to Carolynne Seiffer, the owner of the doll, she returned from her shopping binge to find a damaged car window and a swarm encircling her doll, which she refers to as Ainsley and who costs two thousand dollars.

According to what she shared with WMUR, “I’ve been laughed at and embarrassed by all the fuss.”

Caroline reportedly has over forty of these lifelike dolls in her possession as a means of coping with the loss of her son, as reported by the Washington Post.

It appears that these dolls, which have a very realistic appearance, can serve as a therapeutic tool for parents who are experiencing loss.

“It is impossible to know how people choose to deal with the losses they experience in life,” she continues.

As soon as Jason realised that he had rescued a doll, he felt a little bit of embarrassment. However, he claims that he does not have any regrets and that he is more than anything relieved that the doll was not an actual infant.

According to what he said to WMUR, “I would never assume that it is a doll.” In any situation, I would presume that it is a child. There is nothing that I would ever do differently.

For the purpose of repairing Caroline’s window, the Keene police department paid the required sum of $300 USD.

Take a look at the following excerpt from Inside Edition’s news report regarding the incident:

The most important thing to note about this story is that no one was hurt, despite the fact that it is somewhat peculiar.

For reasons that should be obvious, the police advise that you either leave these dolls in the trunk of your car or carry them with you at all times if you happen to be in possession of one of these dolls.
