Adam and Danielle Busby had no intention of becoming the standard example of large-family parenting on reality TV. However, their daily struggles attracted national attention after they had quintuplet daughters.
With six kids living together, the couple had to make adjustments all the time, from unforeseen medical issues to difficult financial decisions.
Their home is still changing nearly ten years later. Their daughters are growing up, developing their personalities, and having more complex demands.
Despite everything, the Busbys are committed to raising people, protecting their family, and releasing just enough information to remind audiences why their tale is so powerful.
When Adam and Danielle made the decision to try for a second child, they already had a daughter, Blayke Louise. Danielle fell pregnant with quintuplets following fertility treatments.
She gave birth to five girls on April 8, 2015: Parker Kate, Hazel Grace, Riley Paige, Olivia Marie, and Ava Lane.
Before being released from neonatal intensive care, both of them spent time there due to their preterm birth.
The TLC reality series “OutDaughtered,” which chronicled the Busbys’ journey from a family of three to a family of eight, started filming the same year. Only a few months after the quintuplets were born, the show debuted in 2016.
They changed around 50 nappies and 40 bottles every day as part of their daily routine. The quintuplets’ story was a national first and a source of media attention from the beginning because they were the first all-girl set to be born in the United States.
The family had to deal with difficulties behind the scenes that weren’t always visible on television.
Danielle revealed that she was experiencing a number of inexplicable health symptoms while the quintuplets were approximately five years old.
Despite her extensive medical testing, the doctors were unable to make a definitive diagnosis.
Her symptoms included numbness, tingling, stomach issues, skin issues, physical pain, and migraines.
She stated in a 2021 interview that she was being assessed for a potential autoimmune condition, which can be challenging to diagnose.
Danielle concentrated on altering her routine and food in order to manage her symptoms. She started researching foods linked to inflammation and worked on changing her dietary patterns.
She also placed a high priority on her mental well-being, stating that her spirituality and physical fitness allowed her to be stable in the face of uncertainty. Adam took up more responsibilities at home so Danielle may have time to relax when she needed it.
“Just doing whatever I can with the kids and getting the kids out of the house, so that she can just either have a day to just do what she wants to do, or just relax in bed, if it’s a day that she’s hurting,” Adam said.
“After that, I’ll just help her whenever I can. simply hanging out and being available for conversation.”
Even though Danielle’s health was still a mystery, things at home were changing. The ten seasons of “OutDaughtered” have been filmed since 2015. The kids have become more conscious of the filming process as they have become older.
The girls now realise the link between being videotaped and showing up on TV, Danielle explained. As a result, the family lets the kids choose whether or not they want to be included in the filming on any particular day.
“If they want to film and get engaged today, or if Blayke isn’t feeling it, that’s okay,” Danielle remarked. In order to maintain our children’s health, we must feed them around that. The show depicts both the enjoyable and challenging aspects of their lives, she continued.
“You see the bitterness and the cattiness and the family struggle, but that’s just real stuff,” she said. By Season 10, the girls’ extracurricular activities made scheduling filming more difficult. All of the quintuplets participated in different activities, according to Adam, and their oldest, Blayke Louise Busby, had formed multiple school sports teams.
Filming sessions have become more challenging to coordinate because events are planned almost every evening. However, the couple makes it clear that the show is not the cause for their existence, but rather a part of it. According to Danielle, “We love having an outlet to share.”
Blayke has always played a special part among the six daughters. Adam and Danielle’s firstborn daughter is named Blayke. The date of her 14th birthday was April 5, 2025. Danielle posted a birthday message on Instagram to commemorate the event.
“Happy birthday to Blayke Louise, my beautiful 14-year-old. I’m extremely proud of you since you’re becoming such a wonderful young woman! You make everyone around you happy. I hope you understand how unique you are, and you are a wonderful blessing in our lives,” she added.
Blayke has always experienced life in the family differently because he is the only sibling who is not a multiple. Growing up as the non-multiple sibling in her own home, Danielle says she is particularly aware of Blayke’s social position.
She clarified that in order to make sure Blayke feels supported and involved as she ages, she frequently receives more individualised care at home. Adam pointed out that Blayke receives more attention on a daily basis than any of the other kids, even if the show may focus more on the quintuplets.
Being a teenager, she also has different hobbies than her younger siblings. Danielle clarified that she naturally differs from the quintuplets, who are still in a distinct stage of life, when discussing subjects like boys or makeup. The quintuplets have developed into five unique people, but Blayke’s journey is her own.
On April 8, 2025, Ava Lane, Olivia Marie, Hazel Grace, Riley Paige, and Parker Kate, the Busby quintuplets, celebrated their tenth birthday. Danielle shared a number of images of the ladies wearing matching white t-shirts on Instagram to commemorate the occasion.
The words “BRUH ITS MY BIRTHDAY” were put on the back of each shirt, while the number 10 was printed on the front in a contrasting colour. “I can’t believe my quintuplets are 🔟 What a journey we have been on and I wouldn’t change it for anything,” Danielle captioned the photo. I adore you all very much.
Fans remarked on the girls’ physical disparities, highlighting Parker’s height in particular. Someone commented, “It’s unbelievable that they’re already ten! You are all such lovely tiny wonders. I’m very proud of you gals.
“You can definitely see the individuality here looks, height, personality i love it, [sic]” stated another. “Wow, Parker has gotten so tall,” and “It’s wild how much taller Parker is compared to the other girl” were among the other remarks. Others said that Olivia and Ava looked like Blayke, their older sister.
In the quintuplet group, Ava and Olivia are identical twins, as Danielle previously mentioned. According to her, they frequently sit on top of one another without complaining since they are emotionally and physically in perfect rhythm. “They definitely have the identical feelings and emotions,” she stated.
“The identical twins never push back,” Adam continued. [..] Even if the other person touches them, they don’t mind. It is strange. It’s really different. Danielle added that despite their strong bonds, the five girls are sensitive to one another’s feelings.
She claimed that the quints frequently show a common sense of empathy by reacting with worry if one of them is harmed or distressed. The quintuplets have never been considered as a single entity by the Busbys, despite their strong affinity and common birthday.
Adam and Danielle have based their parenting choices on the requirements of each daughter since the quintuplets started school. Riley Paige was enrolled in kindergarten in 2019 instead of her sisters, who started preschool that year. In her explanation of the choice, Danielle stated that “Riley’s above and beyond with her intelligence.”
She made it clear that Riley’s preparedness was the only consideration. She continued, “Of course, we looked at the family and how this change affects everyone else.” Some viewers and social media users criticised the decision, especially those who believed the girls should continue their academic relationship together.
In response to the criticism, Adam said, “Only six parents in history have had to deal with raising quintuplets who are all girls. No one outside of our organisation is aware of the complexity of the choices we make. Both Adam and Danielle have emphasised that treating each girl as an individual is at the heart of their parenting style.
When it comes to sports and other hobbies, they encourage their kids to follow their own interests. “We make every effort to ensure that we are paying attention to our children [and] spending that one-on-one time,” Danielle stated. We enjoy going on one-on-one dates and occasionally separating our daughters.
The couple claims to employ a “divide and conquer” technique, breaking up the kids into smaller groups to assist them manage their time and give each female attention. Additionally, each girl receives individualised discipline based on her response.
It’s difficult to balance the emotional needs of six different kids, but they prioritise it, Danielle said. “We want to instill in them, ‘What is it that you like?’ and let that flourish[…] not push them into things that they’re uncomfortable with,” she said.
Adam and Danielle have had to adapt to changing routines and growing expenses as their girls have grown. “When you multiply even basic expenses by six, they quickly become significant,” Danielle explained. She used the school lunch as an example, pointing out that even though they make an effort to pack lunches, the girls occasionally eat there.
“It’s maybe $2 per day or something. However, if everyone is eating in our environment, that amounts to between $10 and $15 a day – for a subpar school lunch,” she noted. Higher costs are even more difficult. Danielle revealed that the quintuplets’ five days at summer day camp might cost $2,500.
She remarked, “That’s outrageous,” The couple has looked for more affordable options, but they don’t want to deny the girls those experiences. Her words, “They love to go,”
The cost of medical care has also increased. During the most recent season of “OutDaughtered,” the quintuplets made their first appointment to the orthodontist. Danielle was informed at the visit that the girls would require approximately $35,000 in dental work. The estimate made her say, “That’s insane.” Hearing what was being said, Riley remarked, “That’s a lot of money.”
Adam and Danielle continue to reevaluate their involvement in “OutDaughtered,” season after season, after ten years of filming. Danielle clarified that they continuously assess what is effective for their family and what requires modification.
The show has given them a way to record their lives, but it has also produced a digital archive that holds significance for the family. Their children, and eventually their grandchildren, will be able to go back and watch their entire childhoods, Adam said, reflecting on the long-term effects.
The Busbys are still committed to their original objective of creating strong, cohesive individuals as a family, even as they continue to raise their six children and make long-term decisions.
