Truck Driver Jumps Into Action After Chimp Falls into Water — What the Zookeepers Did Next Surprised Everyone

Zookeepers refuse to save drowning chimpanzee – then a truck driver breaks into his cage

To begin, we are of the opinion that zoos are not appropriate places for wild animals. Consider the case of chimpanzees, which ought to be permitted to lead their lives without restriction.

It does not matter how much room they have to wander around or how well they are cared for; they are still in a better position when they are free to roam throughout the wild.

Having said that, we absolutely had no choice but to show you this video of the rescue operation. It depicts a guy who, in an effort to save a chimpanzee, disregards the rules and warning signs that are posted at the zoo and instead throws himself into an enclosure.

That is what we do when we talk about heroism!

In the year 1990, a chimpanzee named Jo-Jo was in a chimpanzee cage at the Detroit Zoo when it accidentally fell into a moat that had been constructed by humans.

The fence that was designed to keep him out of the water was able to be jumped over by him when he was pursued by another chimpanzee who was more violent than the previously mentioned one.

As Jo-Jo strained to keep his head above water, he became increasingly anxious. Approximately ten astonished onlookers were present at the same time as he was drowning in the water.

The truck driver Rick Swope, who was 33 years old and was there with his wife and three children, was one of the individuals that were present.

It was when he saw the look of terror on Jo-Jo’s face that he realized he needed to take action, and he did so by jumping into the sea in order to save the giant ape.

Now, keep in mind that chimpanzees have a strength that is up to five times greater than that of humans.

In addition, the chimpanzee was located in a section of the enclosure that was off-limits to visitors, and there were a number of other chimpanzees that were contained within the enclosure that had the potential to become hostile at any moment.

However, Rick did not show any hesitation. The members of his family watched in astonishment as he rescued Jo-Jo from the water and brought her to the shore. Additionally, it was not the simplest thing…

At some point, Rick was unable to keep hold of Jo-Jo, and he vanished beneath the surface of the sea.

But after another try, Rick was eventually successful in rescuing the chimpanzee, which weighed 200 pounds (90 kilograms) and was 18 years old.

Jo-Jo was in a critical condition when he emerged from the water, but he was still awake and breathing. It was Rick who had rescued him.

“I could see him looking at me. “I believe that he was aware of what was taking place,” Rick stated to the Chicago Tribune.
