“Job Seeker Speaks Out After Being Rejected from Retail Role Due to Tattoos”

TJ Maxx recently turned down a lady who has a significant number of tattoos for a retail position in one of its stores, and she recently voiced her frustrations online.

She was given a dose of reality by the online community, which suggested that “facial piercings and tattoos” are “career enders,” which would make her “unemployable.

” Instead of offering her support, the community shared its thoughts with her.

Earlier this week, Ash Putnam, who uses the online handle ashxobrien, posted a video on TikTok in which she expressed her dissatisfaction with TJ Maxx’s decision to not hire her for a retail position.

The 24-year-old began the TikTok video that was viewed more than 7 million times by saying, “I applied to TJ Maxx a few weeks ago and they denied my application.

” More than 7 million people watched the video. Even calling me was impossible for them. Simply put, they have just sent me an automated email.

Putnam, who has obvious tattoos covering her face and body in addition to multiple facial piercings, stated that she chose to confront the hiring manager in order to see if she could get some clarification.

I went in today, and I was thinking, ‘What was the reason I wasn’t hired?’ I was wondering what the explanation was.

Also, she said something along the lines of, “Oh, you just don’t have some experience.” It is explained by the young woman that there were candidates who had more experience than you.

“I enquired as to whether or not it was due to the tattoos that I had. Evidently, a great number of locations do not approve of tattoos. It was not the cause, according to what she said.

Whatever the case may be, I don’t believe that to be actual. That is all I will say about it.

It is illogical to say that.

Putnam poses the following question in her video: “I’m just wondering how teenagers and young adults who have never had a job before are supposed to get employed.

” She does this in the hopes of gaining some information from the audience that is present online.

If these establishments are only recruiting people based on their level of experience, then how are they supposed to achieve employment? The whole thing is just incomprehensible to me.

Immediately prior to the conclusion of her video, she posed a question to her audience, requesting that they share their experiences and any challenges they may have had while employing.

“I want to find out if I am the only person who is going through this at this very moment.

The fact that my tattoos have been such a determining factor in whether or not I am hired is something that I despise,” Putnam continued.

“The fact that I have tattoos does not in any way indicate that I will not be a good worker,” the individual said.

It is “unemployed.”

Her narrative struck a connection with a significant number of viewers, which resulted in an outpouring of responses from individuals conveying their perspectives.

Regarding the prominent tattoo that extends from her neck to her lower cheekbones, one user says, “Maybe it’s the demon spider??” in reference to the tattoo.

A second TikToker makes a joke about how “[you] can be a barman, tattoo artist, an extra in a prison movie, and the bassist for Motley Crue,” while a third TikToker simply says, “Unemployable.”

Others have claimed that the placement of Putnam’s tattoos, rather than the tattoos themselves, cause the problem.

According to the information provided by one user, “There is a reason that tattoo artists refer to face tattoos as career enders.”

Someone else intervenes and says, “I don’t think it’s because you have tattoos… My guess is that it’s the location of your tattoos. Another person writes,

“I have tattoos all over my body, with the exception of my face…but I am able to find work anywhere.” Come to your senses.

One user on the internet adds, “human resources supervisor here, offering some professional advice.” It is inconceivable that any other firm would put you in front of people in the same way that TJ Maxx does.

Next, a former hiring manager at TJ Maxx verifies the suspicions that facial art is present in the workplace. “I used to be a hiring manager for TJ Maxx, and I will tell you that it’s the facial piercings and tattoos,” the individual said.

Over the course of the last ten years, tattoos have gained a significant amount of acceptance in the workplace.

In spite of this, the job search can still be a difficult task for those with significant ink, such as Putnam, particularly when it comes to positions that involve direct interaction with customers.

Putnam told the Daily Star that businesses need to reevaluate their employment procedures if the reason she was not hired by the retailer was because of the body art she wore.

It is imperative that they reconsider their beliefs if they believe that tattoos are a measure of job skills and abilities.

Coloured hair, piercings, and tattoos are not considered to be unprofessional. There is evidence of originality and innovation… Individuals need to get past their aversion to getting tattoos.
