A Final Bow in the Arena: What the Bullfighter Said Before His Last Fight

Bullfighter’s chilling final words before death

The terrible death of Iván Fandiño, a renowned Spanish matador, occurred in 2017 when he was gored by a bull while participating in a festival in the southwest region of France.

As a result of becoming entangled in his cape, the seasoned bullfighter, who was 36 years old at the time, lost his footing during the event that took place at Aire-sur-l’Adour.

Keep reading to learn more about the chilling occurrences that occurred during his final minutes, which many people still remember to this day.

In addition to being a father and a native of Spain’s Basque Country, Fandiño had been a professional matador for more than a decade.

He was well-known for his ability to take on bulls that were deemed to be too hazardous by other competitors in the sport.

Prior to his subsequent appearance in the ring on the day of the accident, he had previously competed in a fight that took place earlier in the day.

In the course of the battle, Fandiño experienced a fall due to his cape, which caused him to fall to the ground. It was then that the rushing bull struck him with its horn.

Gored in the torso, the animal, which weighed close to half a ton, punctured various important organs, including his lungs, and caused him to lose consciousness.

Even though he was conscious when he was being transported out of the arena, Fandiño was experiencing significant bleeding.

His final words were later alleged by witnesses to have been, “Hurry up, I’m dying today.” While he was on his way to the hospital, he sadly passed away from a heart attack.

Juan del Álamo, a fellow matador who ultimately succeeded in killing the bull, voiced his surprise at the unexpected change of events, saying, “I simply cannot believe it.

” Because everything happened so quickly, none of us can comprehend how it could have taken place. It was the bull’s hindquarters that brought him to the ground, and he dropped to the ground face down.

Fandiño had previously experienced severe injuries in the past. He was knocked unconscious in the ring in Bayonne, France, in 2014, and in 2015, he was thrown into the air during a fight in Pamplona, Spain. Both of these incidents occurred in France.

Despite this, his passing came as a shock to the bullfighting community, as it was the first time in nearly a century that a matador had passed away in France.

Isidoro Mari Fernando, who passed away in Béziers in 1921, was the last of the aforementioned individuals, as stated by Sud-Ouest, a regional newspaper in France.

Following Fandiño’s passing, numerous condolences were received throughout Spain, including one from King Felipe VI, who paid respect to him as a “great bullfighting figure.” Also paying his tributes was the Prime Minister of the time, Mariano Rajoy.

Less than a year had passed since the death of another high-profile bullfighter, Víctor Barrio, a Spanish matador who had been gored to death during a televised event.

Barrio was the first matador to pass away in Spain in decades. Fandiño’s death came less than a year after Barrio’s death.

A tradition that continues to be fraught with controversy is bullfighting. In 2012, the French courts ruled that it was part of the country’s native cultural heritage, which led to its legalization in France, despite the fact that it was prohibited in certain places.

Even if there are increasing requests from people who campaign for animal rights for a complete prohibition on the practice, Spain continues to provide protection for it.
