“Unexpected Bonds: The Surprising Connection Behind My Child’s New Friendship”
Child Made a New Friend at School, but Mom Is Shocked to Learn Who the Girl’s Mother Is – Story of the Day
Mike, Lisa’s kid, was constantly talking about Sophie, his new buddy. It was Sophie this and Sophie that every day. At last, Lisa consented to see Sophie’s mother out of curiosity and hope for a relationship.

However, Lisa’s life fell apart when she opened the door since it was a former acquaintance.
As she got closer to the school, Lisa drove carefully and looked at Mike, who was looking out the window, in the rearview mirror.
The weight of everything they had experienced was evident in the thick quiet that existed between them. Lisa still felt alienated by the town, its weird faces and streets.

She was concerned about Mike, but she hoped the new beginning would aid in their recovery. He had appeared more reserved and subdued ever after his father’s passing. Would he be successful in forming new friendships? Would this new environment make him feel at ease?
“Have a good day, sweetie!” she called as Mike got out of the car. Have courage!
His eyes were sparkling, and he virtually skipped to the car when she picked him up later that day. “Mom! I have a new pal! Sophie is her name.

Lisa grinned in relief. They might benefit from this move after all. From that time on, Sophie was frequently discussed.
Mike was picked up from school one afternoon by Lisa. He rushed over and gave her a hard hug while beaming from ear to ear.
“Hey, friend! How did your day go? As they made their way to the car, Lisa grinned and added, “You seem happy.”
“Yes! “It was fantastic!” Still grinning, Mike said as he got into the car.

“Really? What took place today? Curious, Lisa asked.
“Sophie invited me to her house to play!” With excitement, Mike said.
“Oh? What time are you leaving?” Lisa looked at him as she turned on the ignition and asked.
“She said tomorrow!” With a tiny bounce in his seat, Mike answered.
“Well, I’ll need to talk to her parents first to make sure it’s okay,” Lisa replied.
As he searched his rucksack, Mike found a crumpled piece of paper. “Look here! Sophie resides with her mother. He handed it over and added, “She gave me her number.”

“I’m grateful, Mike. Lisa tucked the paper aside and added, “I’ll text her tonight.”
Lisa took out her phone and sat down on the couch at home. She started texting after entering the number Mike had provided.
“Hello, this is Mike’s mother, Lisa. He informed me that Sophie had asked him to visit tomorrow. Are you comfortable with that?
Her phone rang with a response a few minutes later.

“Hello, Lisa! Yes, Sophie has already informed me of this. Mike’s visit would be very appreciated.
With relief, Lisa grinned. She wished for a seamless transition. She typed another message rapidly.
“That’s fantastic! Do I need to bring anything with Mike?
It was practically instantaneous.
“Maybe some wine, so we moms aren’t too bored!”
The message made Lisa laugh. Sophie’s mother appeared to have a sense of humour. After giving it some thought, she said, “That sounds fantastic! I’ll see you tomorrow. Then, feeling a little more relaxed, she placed her phone down.

Lisa grinned to herself, a glimmer of optimism in her eyes. Perhaps this is her opportunity to meet someone fresh. According to Mike, Sophie’s mother was likewise parenting her kid by herself.

Perhaps we will be able to comprehend one another, Lisa thought. Both of us are working alone on this. She felt a little more comfortable with the thought of having someone to talk to who was sympathetic to her difficulties.
Mike and Lisa approached Sophie’s residence the following day. Lisa smiled slightly at Mike while holding a bottle of wine in one hand. Mike jumped with excitement as he knocked on the door. Sophie was standing there when the door opened.

“Sophie!” Mike’s face brightened as he yelled.
“Mike!” Squealing, Sophie took his hand. Laughing, the two children ran inside.

Lisa was waiting at the door. Sophie’s mother emerged as the door widened a moment later. Lisa’s heart stopped beating. Alice was standing in front of her. Her deadliest nemesis in high school was Alice.
Alice recognised Lisa, and her gaze furrowed. “Lisa,” she said with a phoney smile and clinched teeth.
“Alice,” Lisa said, her stomach sinking.
Alice looked up and down at Lisa while crossing her arms. “You’ve remained the same. The same dull, uninteresting mouse.
“And you’re still wearing skirts so short, you’re practically giving everyone a show,” Lisa shot out, her face tensing up.
Alice moved to the side, keeping the door open just enough to let Lisa enter. Lisa could sense the tension between them right away.

She gripped the wine bottle even more tightly as she entered. The sound of the children’s laughter filled the house, but Lisa and Alice’s relationship remained chilly. They poured their wine, sat down, and hardly spoke to each other.

As Lisa sipped her drink, her thoughts were racing. The way Alice had treated her in high school was something she would never forget. Lisa had been invisible, but Alice had been the queen of popularity, the one everyone looked up to. She had been Alice’s target, which made her worse than invisible.

She recalled all the humiliations Alice had caused her. The bullying, the unsavoury gossip, the assignments Alice would pilfer in order to advance. The worst recollection, though, is of Alice stealing her date on prom night. Lisa had gone by herself, seeing Alice wear the prom queen crown while dancing and laughing.

Years had passed, but the ache persisted. Furthermore, Alice, who was now seated across from her, had never expressed regret. The resentment persisted till the conclusion of the evening. With a few icy words, they said their goodbyes.
While Lisa stayed away from Alice, Mike and Sophie remained close friends. That is, until one day Lisa received a call from Miss Terry, Mike’s teacher, inviting her to visit the school. Nervous but ill-prepared for what lay ahead, Lisa arrived. She saw Alice sitting in the office as soon as she entered.
Lisa felt sick to her stomach. “What’s going on?” she said in a strained voice.

Lisa sat down and looked from Alice to Miss Terry. She repeated, “Now will you explain what this is about?”
Miss Terry stated, “Mike has been bullying Sophie,” in a grave tone.
Lisa blinked with disbelief. “What? That isn’t feasible. They’re pals.

Alice put on her sad expression and let out a huge sigh. “Sophie has mentioned it to me multiple times. I made an effort to deal with it, but when nothing improved, I was forced to involve Miss Terry.
Lisa’s annoyance was almost unbearable. “Why am I only hearing about this now?”
Alice scoffed, her eyes hardening, “Perhaps you’re not giving your youngster enough care. Now that you haven’t been caring for him, he is turning into a terrible guy.”
Lisa became enraged. “You dare? Don’t you dare say such things about my child, no matter how much you try to humiliate me!” She trembled as she said.
“Please, calm down,” Miss Terry remarked in an attempt to defuse the situation. “I understand how difficult it has been to handle things on your alone after your spouse passed away, Lisa. Perhaps you ought to consider seeking assistance.”

Lisa stood up tall and spoke firmly. “I’m doing okay. We’re doing quite well. Even a specialist is being seen by Mike.
Miss Terry gave a nod, but her face remained grave. “I understand. However, we might have to think about kicking Mike out of the school if this behaviour doesn’t cease.”

Lisa was hearing things she couldn’t believe. “She is fabricating everything! Do you not see that? Sophie is pals with Mike! Has anybody even witnessed him harassing her?
Miss Terry paused. “No, but Sophie has told me…”
“Maybe you need a specialist too if you can’t see what your son is doing,” Alice said with a sly smile.
Lisa was at her breaking point. “Oh, go to hell! With her heart racing, she said, “I’ve had enough of this!” and hurried out of the office.

Lisa’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as she drove home, tears streaming down her face. She found it hard to believe. Like in high school, Alice was still causing trouble after all these years.
However, this was no longer high school. They were mature women with children to raise. Lisa believed Alice ought to have figured it out by now. We are no longer teenagers. Why does she still behave in such a manner?

After the heated discussion at school, a few days went by. A knock on the door one evening shocked Lisa. When she opened it, Alice was standing there with a look that was different from the icy one she normally wore.
Lisa narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms. “What are you looking for? Are you here to disrespect me further?”
“No,” Alice murmured softly as she briefly glanced down at her feet. “I came to apologise.”
Lisa was stunned and stood still. She didn’t anticipate hearing those last words from Alice.

Alice’s expression was worried as she nodded. “Sophie hasn’t stopped crying. Mike is missed by her. She desires to re-establish her friendship with him. Seeing her so upset bothers me. Lisa, she’s everything to me.
“So, you’re admitting you lied?” With a tone of incredulity and rage, Lisa questioned.
“Yes,” Alice said, looking directly into Lisa’s eyes. “I’m going to tell Miss Terry the truth tomorrow.”
“But why?” Lisa enquired, still perplexed. “Why lie in the first place?”
Alice let out a long sigh. “I did it in high school for the same reason. I felt envious of you.
“Jealous?” Lisa’s voice rose as she asked. “My husband passed away. I am raising a child by myself.
Alice bit her lip in embarrassment. “But at least you had a husband who loved you,” she muttered. “Scott and I got married. Do you recall him? The boy at prom that I took from you?”
Lisa nodded, flashing back to that terrible night.
“I don’t want to go into the specifics, but he wasn’t a good husband,” Alice went on. And not a good father. I eventually worked up the nerve to break up with him two years ago. Sophie and I fled.
Lisa’s lips formed a little smirk as she lifted an eyebrow. “So, I should be thanking you for stealing him, huh?”
Alice laughed sadly. “You were always bolder and smarter than I was. Your family was good. And I couldn’t take it when I saw how strong you were with Mike and how successful you were by yourself.”
“Can you forgive me?” Alice asked after a lengthy silence.
“Enter the house. Let’s have some wine first. Lisa moved aside and held the door wide for Alice, saying, “We have a lot to talk about.”
After a few tense and uncertain minutes, Alice abruptly leaned forward and gave her a hug.
Lisa was taken aback, but she returned the hug. That’s when all the rage Lisa had been harbouring began to subside. She understood that Alice had also been burdened.
