“Widowed and Alone at the Airport — Until an 82-Year-Old Hero Came to Help”
Widower Is Barred from Boarding a Flight with His Newborn Baby, 82-Year-Old Woman Helps Him — Story of the Day
Bob was late. A Florida hospital had just called the 40-year-old to inform him that a daughter had just been born and that he was listed as the child’s father.
He would have written it off as a practical joke, but it was unexpected because he knew his wife was in Florida on a little vacation he planned for her while he was remodeling their house.

He was renovating since the couple needed extra rooms in their home because they had no children of their own and had adopted three because they both wanted to be active in adoption.
Bob was more picky about getting a foster child than the other one because he was one himself and had vowed as a child to take in as many as he could.
During their conversation, he said to his wife, “I feel like I’ve made a huge difference if I can help those kids grow up to be the best of themselves.”
In addition, Bob was the father of two grown children he conceived with Ellen, his ex-wife. After the wife decided to cheat with their pool boy and was detected, the two parted ways.
He met his second wife, Mary, two years later, and after courting for several months, they got married. They looked into adoption after their unsuccessful attempt at childbearing, but they never gave up on having children.
Their perseverance eventually paid off, and Mary became pregnant. Bob made the decision to add a nursery and an additional room to the house in anticipation of the baby’s arrival.
Once he made up his mind, he booked Mary, who was expecting in two months, on a plane to Florida, a destination she had always desired.
However, as soon as she got to Florida, the woman went into labor and was taken to the hospital.

Sadly, she passed away during childbirth, so Bob was informed that since the child was still a baby, they had to take off right away. To pick up her daughter, he packed his bags and took a plane to Florida.
He leased a car after his jet touched down and drove to the hospital, where his wife was said to have died.
Although he was still saddened by the news of her passing, he concentrated on raising their only kid together since he knew there would be time to mourn later.
He met the 82-year-old volunteer at the intensive care unit, who had just lost her spouse, when he got to the hospital.
Mrs. Sticks was her name, and she had something to share with Bob. He walked into her office and asked her, “What happened?”
Calmly, “Have a seat, Bob,” she urged.
“I would rather stand,” he said.
“I’m sorry for your loss Bob, but your wife suffered some complications giving birth to your child.”
At that point, Bob sobbed violently, and Mrs. Sticks chose to watch him in silence. She cleared her throat and spoke after a few minutes.

“As I understand you have come for the child, but I have to make sure that you have what it takes to care for one,” Mrs. Sticks replied.
Mrs. Sticks nodded gratefully, as though to say, “You’ll do,” when Bob informed her that he was already a father, but she still gave him her number.
When she stated, “Call me if you need anything,” On the day of departure, the generous woman also volunteered to drive her new acquaintance to the airport.
Bob’s life proceeded without incident until it was time to board the aircraft. The woman at the counter wouldn’t let him through when he reached the boarding gate.
She said, “Is this your child sir?”
“Of course she is,” he informed her.
“I apologize, but it appears that she is too young to be flying. What is her age?
Her age is four days. Can I get through now?” Bob stated.
“I’m sorry sir, but you’ll have to present her birth certificate and wait till she is at least seven days old before traveling with her,” severely replied the woman.
“What’s this?” Bob asked sternly. “Are you implying that I must stay here for the next few days? I have to return home today because I don’t have any family here to stay with.”
The woman said, “I’m sorry, it’s the policy,” and then she looked at the person in front of her.
Bob was aware that getting the document would take a while, but he had nowhere to go in Florida and no one to turn to for assistance.

He thought of Mrs. Sticks, the good-natured woman from the medical facility, while he was getting ready to spend the night at the airport. He didn’t want to bother her, but there was nothing he could do and night was coming fast.
“Hello,” he said. “I need your help.”
Bob was shocked by Mrs. Sticks’s offer to go back to the airport and take them to her house as soon as she learned of his predicament. Bob recognized that he would have probably declined to assist if he had been in her shoes.
“Compassion still thrives in this world,” he told himself.
Before heading back to Texas, Bob spent over a week at Mrs. Sticks’ residence. Bob and his kid weren’t just invited into the woman’s house.
By talking to him and offering consolation, she helped him deal with the death of his wife and the arrival of the baby. She even made it simpler for him by helping to arrange for his wife’s body to be transported properly.
The dad was amazed by her generosity and would frequently refer to her as a true angel. His daughter even appeared to like her, as she would light up and start laughing at the sound of her voice.
Bob discovered during his visit that the woman had three great-grandchildren, seven grandchildren, and four grown children.
The two grew closer as they took care of the infant together, went for comforting walks, and even went to pay tribute to Mrs. Sticks’ late husband.

The man knew that he would miss his mother greatly when he traveled home because he recognized her in Mrs. Sticks.
He was allowed to go back home after obtaining his daughter’s birth certificate, but Bob kept in touch with the elderly woman who had assisted him.
Until she died a few years later, he visited her annually with his young kid because he never forgot her generosity and had no idea how things would have turned out without her.
At her funeral, a lawyer contacted him and informed him that, similar to what she did for her children, Mrs. Sticks had given him a portion of her estate.
Bob sent the money to a foundation he started with her four children, including her eldest daughter Shirley, whom he fell in love with after being exposed to her charms all the time, as a token of appreciation for her generosity. She became the mother of his six children after they were married.
