We Were Torn Apart as Babies—67 Years Later, a Message Changed Everything

“It Took Me 67 Years to Find My Sister after We Were Adopted by Different Families – My Story”

As a child, Judy lost contact with her sister May and was clueless about how to locate her. However, she persisted in searching everywhere for her. After waiting for 67 years, there was a glimmer of optimism that she would eventually be able to see May again.

I was holding May’s hand. I was following her as she rushed into the sunflower fields, smiling. She suddenly disappeared, vanishing into thin air. I was unable to locate her.

“May, where are you?” While meandering across the fields, I inquired. “Maybe our parents will be upset with us! Stop hiding, please. “May!”

I opened my eyes with a gulp and a droplet of sweat on my forehead. I sighed as I glanced at the clock by my bed. I had dreamed of May’s absence once more around three in the morning.

I was honestly exhausted. I’m sick of only ever seeing May in my dreams. Yes, I was trying to find her, but nothing appeared to be working.

Hi there, I’m Judy, and it has been 67 years since I last saw my sister in May. “I couldn’t even recall my sister’s face because I was so little”.

However, I was carrying an album. It had photos of Dad, Mom, and us. A contented family. Before Mom and Dad died in a vehicle accident, we were all one.

“We were placed in a shelter, which was terrible in every way, because our relatives didn’t want to be involved in our care. I used to hide in a corner and cry when the mean kids there pulled my pigtails and made me cry. Until May learned about it, that is”.

Would you quit? Or would you continue to search for that sliver of hope?

One day she questioned me, “They hurt you, Judy, don’t they?” and I started crying uncontrollably.
I sobbed as I said, “They are bad, May,” “They hate me and call me names, and they call Mommy and Daddy bad too!”

May, like usual, stood up for me and protected me with those children that day. She was all I had, and when she hugged me, I felt secure and loved.

I told her, “I love you, May,” before going to bed each night. “You’re the greatest sister ever! “The best!”

However, destiny had to step in. Mom, Dad, and my amazing sister were all taken away by that terrible fate. It did, indeed.

A couple came to meet May six months after we were placed in the shelter, and she left with them. I didn’t receive a farewell note, a farewell kiss, or anything else from her.

“She left?” When I couldn’t find our shelter caretaker, I sobbed and requested her. “Really?”

“”Yes, she did!” the obnoxious woman snapped back. “She needed to focus on herself first! She didn’t want a tiny caterpillar to accompany her.

I adapted to living at the shelter after a year. I had to defend myself since May was no longer there to do so. Then one day I was approached by a man with gentle eyes and a lady with a lovely smile who said they wanted me to be their daughter”.

“Would you like us to be your parents, honey?” The woman inquired. “We’d love to have you home.”

“I’ve never felt bad about saying yes. I was given a nice home by the Adams, who were a charming couple. However, it was 67 years ago. I wanted to share a little bit about my past with you before I explain how I received the sign that I could see May again”.

“I went to the kitchen to get some water after waking up at three in the morning that day, and guess what? My grandson Peter was pilfering food from the pantry!”

“Peter, hun!” I let out a sigh. “Again?”

“Gran!” He grinned. Don’t tell Mom and Dad, please. They’ll murder me.

He was eating an entire tub of ice cream when I joined him at the kitchen counter.

“It’s not good for you, boy!” I said, and he gave me a silly laugh.
“Is it okay if I speak with you for a bit, Peter? I added, “I can’t sleep,” and he nodded while licking the spoonful of ice cream.

“I saw Gran May in my dream again,” I replied. “I did, yes.”

“So it was those fields again?” I was questioned by Peter.

“Yes,” I replied pitifully. “Peter, I did everything I could. I took one of those DNA tests that can help you identify your relatives. I even visited the home where she had relocated following her adoption, but I was unable to locate her.

He licked the spoon one more and inquired nonchalantly, “Did you try Facebook?” “You can find people there.”
I said, “Can I?” “Really? However, I’m clueless about how that gadget operates.

“Gran, it’s simple! Could you describe Gran May’s appearance to me?

“Ah well, I have a childhood picture of her, and I’m sure I’ll recognize her even though it’s been a long time.”

“Perfect!” grinned Peter. “All right, let’s strike a bargain. I’ll help you find Gran May, but you don’t tell your parents I finished the tub of ice cream, okay?”

A year ago, my only son and daughter-in-law wanted me to be around Peter, so I moved in with them. And this little child… Oh, how I adore him! He is similar to my co-conspirator. And I was unable to refuse the amazing offer.

“Deal!” I smiled hopefulally as I said.

“Ok then, let’s go.”

At approximately four in the morning, Peter and I were in his room looking over May’s Facebook posts. I was aware that her name remained the same.

We spent five hours that morning looking for May, but to no avail. I was disappointed that all of our efforts had been in vain, and I was angry that Peter had to go school with dark circles under his eyes as a result of me.

When I smeared peanut butter on toast that morning, tears welled up in my eyes. To myself, I said, “You know what? Judy, let’s put an end to this. Let’s put a stop to this. Perhaps you and May weren’t meant to be together. Perhaps you were never meant to be the “best sisters.”

My phone rang with a message at that very moment.

“Give me a call back!

— Dr. Smith.

I nearly dropped the phone as he finished speaking.

“I believe we have located her, Judy. About a week ago, your sister came to look for you. I was away, therefore I couldn’t get in touch with you. Her information was recorded by the hospital. They have been sent to your email address.

Judy and I were born at the maternity hospital where Dr. Smith works. Months ago, I went to see him to find out if my sister had called the hospital. If she was looking for me, I assumed she would go there. We became a part of each other’s worlds in that hospital, after all!

As I share this, I’m crying. My sister was watering the plants in her garden when I got to the address that afternoon. She had a lot of sunflowers.

I walked up to her and said, “May?” and she turned around when I said that.
“Jesus! Are you? “Oh God!” she exclaimed.

I encircled her in my arms. “Yes… May, it’s me! I located you! Yes, I did.

“Oh my God, Judy! “How are you?” She hugged me back and asked. She chuckled and said, “You look so old!” I grinned. Yes, after a 67-year wait, I finally got to see my sister, and I grinned through my tears.

As it turned out, May didn’t want to hurt me, so she went without saying anything. She was also aware that I had been adopted by a family, and she never meddled in my affairs because she wanted me to be happy.

However, she made the decision to locate me one day. “I was a little late, sorry,” she apologized. “I didn’t know where to look for you because the shelter wouldn’t tell me anything, and as a last resort, I visited the maternity hospital!”

May’s family is large. She has three children and numerous grandchildren from her marriage to a beautiful man. I met her spouse that day, but I was unable to meet her children because they are spread out across the nation. He loves May and is a great dude.

Meeting May would have delighted my late spouse. However, I am content. After waiting for 67 years, I finally located my sister! Amazingly, it occurred just when I was about to give up.

If you were in my position, what would you do, God forbid? Would you quit? Or would you wait and keep searching for that glimmer of hope that somewhere in this small world you could see your loved one again? Perhaps you would wait? Correct?
