In addition to disclosing information about the untimely death of a respected fire captain, a fundraiser has been organized to support his grieving family.

Killeen Fire Captain Marvin Taylor III was killed in a fatal vehicle accident in Texas on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025.

The tragedy is further compounded by the fact that Captain Taylor passed away shortly after the birth of his sixth child. Since then, the individual convicted of his murder has been taken into custody.

Authorities said the crash that killed Taylor happened in the 600 block of E. Koenig Lane early on Sunday morning, at approximately 1:05 a.m.

After welcoming his new baby in a hospital in Austin, the adored fire captain was on his way to meet up with his older kids so they could meet their new sibling. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it.

He was traveling around the city in a van when a fast SUV collided hard with his car from behind. At the scene, Taylor was declared deceased.

On May 13, two days later, Austin police revealed that 34-year-old Rodney Bremby had been arrested in relation to the tragic event.

He is currently being held at the Travis County Jail on a charge of intoxication manslaughter, with a $103,000 bond. Following the tragedy, at 8 a.m.

on Monday, the city of Killeen honored Captain Taylor by lowering all municipal flags in his honor. The day following Taylor’s funeral, they will stay in this position till eight in the morning.

A mournful procession of fire and emergency service vehicles carried his remains from Austin to the Temple mortuary services.

Less than a year ago, Captain Taylor—who had been with the Killeen Fire Department for more than ten years—was elevated to the position of Operations Training Captain, a position he proudly and purposefully held.

This came when he was promoted on July 12, 2024, to Fire Captain. James Kubinski, the fire chief of Killeen, thanked the public for their support in a poignant message and asked for time for the department and Taylor’s family to grieve in private.

“He served in our Fire Department since 2014 and was a highly esteemed and decorated member […] A section of the letter states, “Captain Taylor was renowned for his commitment, leadership, and innumerable deployments with Texas A&M Task Force 1 and TIFMAS.”

The statement continues by emphasizing that Taylor will be remembered for his influence on those around him as well as for his service.

Similar to Chief Kubinski, the government agency requested tolerance and privacy for Taylor’s coworkers and family.

Additionally, it stated that information regarding the case and methods to demonstrate Taylor’s family’s support would be made clear in the days ahead.

The legislation ought to be amended to allow for the first-time prosecution of murder charges against anyone who chooses to drive after intoxication.

Another poster echoed this attitude when they said, “103000 [sic] bond is a disgrace.” Others demanded longer-term responsibility and more severe punishments.

“Life in prison and if he gets out he should have to pay money’s [sic] to that family,” Facebook users said. Another said, “Make him pay for all those kids for the rest of his life!” in a similar spirit.

Donors have already surpassed that target in a potent demonstration of solidarity and giving; the campaign now has over $80,000 in total.

Community people, emergency responders, and other firemen united in a heartfelt and poignant Facebook memorial to pay their respects to Taylor.

At the entrance to Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, his coworkers stood shoulder to shoulder in their formal uniforms, creating a human hallway of reverence.

Close-ups of nameplates and badges, lines of saluting firefighters standing at attention, and the solemn procession with Taylor’s flag-draped coffin were among the pictures circulated.
