Tom Cruise’s Latest Photo Has Fans Doing a Double Take — Here’s Why

Photo of Tom Cruise turns heads after people spot detail

Not because of the movie they were there to promote, a recent image of Australian entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins and Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise is making waves on social media.

Behind-the-scenes picture

Many of us are eagerly awaiting the release of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The movie will open in theaters in the United States on May 23 after having its international premiere in Tokyo earlier this May.

Fans are in for a crazy journey if the leaked behind-the-scenes photos are any indication. Take a look at the crazy picture below, which is purportedly from the set.

It looks to be a huge year for 62-year-old Tom Cruise, as early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

But is there any chance that the hype train will be derailed?

Well, perhaps. Fans are giddy about a picture taken at a London press conference, and not for the expected reason.

After an interview, Cruise is seen posing next to 70-year-old Wilkins in what appears to be a typical celebrity picture opportunity.

However, admirers soon focused on one surprising detail: the pronounced disparity in height.

The height of Wilkins and Cruise

Wilkins posted the image to Instagram along with the following caption:

“It’s always great to catch up with the amazing @tomcruise.” He continued by lauding the forthcoming film, describing it as “bigger, faster, higher, deeper.” Wilkins added, “He keeps raising the bar… and then jumping over it,” in addition to praising Cruise’s renowned work ethic.

However, the striking visual contrast between the two guys diverted followers’ attention from the glowing assessment. With a height of 6’2″ (1.88 meters), Wilkins seems to dwarf Cruise, who is generally estimated to be around 5’6″ (1.7 meters).

Wilkins was a little closer to the camera, as some fans noted, but others didn’t hold back.

One commenter commented, “Tom looks like he just popped out of a Kinder Surprise egg.”

“I know he’s not the tallest, but this photo seems off — like it’s been warped or something,” said another commenter.

“There’s no way Cruise likes that photo floating around,” a third person said.

pressed him about his anxieties

After the photo drama subsided, the focus shifted to Cruise’s famous, and frequently crazy, stunt work. Wilkins questioned him about the first trick he had ever performed. Instead of using the well-known sock slide from Risky Business, Cruise went even farther back.

Cruise grinned and remarked, “I believe it began when I was around three.” At night, I would scale the roof and crawl out of windows to gaze at the stars. It has simply always been a part of who I am.

Cruise was straightforward but unafraid when Wilkins asked him whether he ever feels afraid during those high-stakes action sequences.

“It’s not that I’m not afraid,” he clarified. “I simply don’t let it deter me.” Being afraid doesn’t bother me since it motivates me.

What about the film itself? With a staggering $400 million budget, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is already receiving positive reviews from critics.

Anthony Gagliardi described it as “an absolute adrenaline rush.” “Cruise demonstrates his dominance of cinematic spectacle once more.”

“The wildest and most consequential Mission movie to date,” according to Erik Davis of Fandango.

Not holding back either, critic Dave Baldwin called it “pulse-pounding, gasp-inducing, and wildly entertaining.”

One thing is certain: even when someone else is taller than him, Tom Cruise still knows how to steal the show with his stunts, red carpet appearances, and viral pictures.
