Tragic Loss: Authorities Investigate Triple Fatality Involving Young Family
37-Year-Old Man Kills Wife and Pregnant Girlfriend Before Taking His Own Life
The suspect’s wife and girlfriend’s families were devastated by the tragedy that happened in Dalton, Georgia. To generate money for burial costs, both have started GoFundMe pages.

On Friday, May 23, at approximately 6 p.m., Dalton police were called to do a welfare check on a lady whose coworkers said she had not been seen or contacted for a number of days.
The woman’s home was unresponsive when officers knocked on the door. When apartment officials finally allowed them inside, they found the woman’s dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Rebeca Nicole Akins, age 35, was identified as the individual. After being alerted, detectives started looking into the matter. On Wednesday, May 21, they discovered surveillance tape that showed the suspect leaving the building at approximately six o’clock in the evening.
They followed the man’s vehicle to another apartment building on 1805 Shadow Lane as the investigation went on.
On Saturday morning, while officers were waiting for a search warrant for a unit in the complex, they noticed a man walking toward the same room and using a key to access it.
After returning outside, the man called 911 to report two bodies, which were later confirmed as those of 37-year-old Kevin Andrew Akins and 33-year-old Cindel Mae Rhoden. Police eventually discovered that Cindel’s father was the one who called emergency services.
Investigators examined this scene and concluded that Kevin killed Cindel with a gunshot before turning the weapon on himself.
In addition to being married to Rebeca, Kevin was also seeing Cindel, who was five months pregnant.
According to a revised police report, initial investigations also showed that Kevin killed his wife, Rebeca, at her home at 1320 Murray Avenue early on May 21 before going to Cindel’s to kill both of them.

Emily Landen, Rebeca’s younger sister, set up a GoFundMe page after her death. “We got the worst news we could have hoped for on May 23rd.
The man that my elder sister Nicole had loved for more than half of her life unfortunately took her away from us. We are all beyond words because of this. “That’s all I have to say about that,” Emily started.
Rebeca and Kevin had been together for 20 years, she said, and “all of her financials were tied up in his.”
According to Emily, Rebeca was named in Kevin’s life insurance policy, and her family wasn’t sure how it would affect their capacity to pay for funeral expenses considering the circumstances of their deaths.
“We want to honor her generosity, joy, and unshakable love by providing her with the service she deserves. We don’t want our circumstances to keep Emma from receiving the care she needs, but we can’t bear this weight alone,” Emily wrote.

She went on to say that she wished to honor Rebeca’s life and the companions she encountered. As of this writing, her family has raised $1,640 toward their goal of $18,000.
Additionally, Cindel’s family started a GoFundMe account, which was run by Ashley Barker. By the time Cindel became pregnant with Kevin, she had already given birth to two daughters, according to the campaign description.
This September would have been the birth month for her son. In March of this year, Cindel shared a picture of her ultrasound online with the message, “Coming in September 2025.”
Ashley characterized Cindel as a woman who was committed to her career as a single mother attempting to make sense of her life in the description of her family’s GoFundMe.

“Cindel was in a relationship with a man who was married to his estranged wife and she fell victim [to] manipulation,” Ashley added, referring to Cindel’s connection with Kevin, whom she accused of “taking the coward’s way out.”
“Cindel was a loving, vibrant, and committed mother who did her best for her daughters; she was more than just a victim of this tragedy. Her girls now live with family, but they require assistance,” she added.
Regretfully, Cindel lacked life insurance. The money raised, according to Ashley, will cover Cindel’s funeral, her daughters’ essential expenses, and establishing a more secure future for them.

“We hope you will support us during this time because we believe in the strength of community. I appreciate your prayers, love, and support,” Ashley said in closing.
As of this writing, Cindel’s family has raised $3,041, falling short of their goal of $20,000.
