My Fiancé Cheated on Me with My Sister – Then She Demanded My Wedding Dress Because ‘I Don’t Need It Anyway’
Although I assumed my sister loved me sincerely and would always stay with me, her betrayal made it clear what she’s really like. Still recovering from such a huge betrayal, she insisted I hand over my wedding dress which pushed me to show what I truly feel!

Do you ever feel that life started acting like a soap opera? That happened in my situation as well. I let my younger sister watch over my fiancé, but the two of them cheated on me. Thankfully, I wasn’t content with their behavior and here’s what I did to make things better!
I’m Lauren. Last year was a momentous year for me when I turned 35 and everything might have fallen apart or come together in a way I needed. I spent years working on my own in design, being careful with my money and longing for a fairytale wedding.

Tyler and I both had to begin our journey in life without a lot of financial help. My dream wedding wouldn’t come true unless I made it happen by myself. That’s why I did. All the paychecks, side jobs and freelance jobs were put aside for that one big day.
For example, I did the invitations, handcrafted the centerpieces and managed to get a good discount from the place and the flower shop! The highlight for me was my dress which was custom-made, white and bedazzled with hand-stitched beads that had an amazing effect on me.

She had to save for two years and pay $4,000 in order to buy the car. I felt very good about that dress. As soon as I put it on for the fitting, I came very close to crying. I’d never looked as lovely to myself as I did on that day. It wasn’t only a dress; it showed me that being patient and determined is important.
Three years after they started dating, Tyler asked LaNay to marry him. He managed to be sweet, caring and I felt he was trustworthy. I always believed that my sister, Amanda, was one of my biggest supporters. She was five years younger than me, very sweet and bright and everyone quickly fell in love with her.

While I was growing up, she would enter my room to take some of my makeup and plead to wear my heels. I gave my old homecoming dresses to her and when Tyler asked her to marry him, she said I was the person she wanted to be like. I really trusted what she said.
As with many hard truths, this happened in an unorganized way.
For about 2 weeks before the wedding, Tyler forgot his phone on the kitchen counter while he got coffee. His phone wasn’t locked and it started to ring, so I saw her name light up on the screen.

I picked the object up when I was curious. I never expected future in-laws to be planning for a wedding displaying sad hearts in a text message. I got a sudden knot in my stomach. Despite knowing it would be a mistake, I went ahead and opened the topic. I was surprised to see that as I moved back months, all the information appeared!
Secret meetups! Flirty texts! Talking about the ideas for our life together after the wedding! Amanda explaining that she wished they wouldn’t have to hide anymore! As he stepped back in and started to merrily humme, I couldn’t believe it and stayed still.

I showed him the phone then, right there and demanded an answer! He was very clear and honest about it. At first, he was unsure of how to ask to connect with Amanda. My sister started to cry and they claimed that love between them just happened all by chance.
It happened to me like a slip on the stairs!
I decided that very night to call off the wedding plans.

It broke my heart that my first love was not the love of my life and I had no other siblings.
I didn’t have any difficulty returning the main services; the photographer gave me credit I can use in the future and the venue allowed me to get back part of my money if I canceled early.
Still, the big question is the dress. I was not able to leave things behind. Packing everything away and just denying what had happened was too hard to accept.

For this reason, I did not undo my bookings for the venue and other arrangements. At the start, I decided it was just because I had so much to handle from the situation. At some level, I knew I couldn’t give away that freedom.
I placed the dress at the back of my closet in its protective bag, just like a memory of a life that didn’t happen.
After a week had passed, Sister of the Year™ came by smiling as if nothing had happened in the last seven days.

“I’m engaged!” She jumped as she declared her big news. I looked at her without saying anything. She waved her hand to my nose, displaying her very plain ring which wasn’t even new. It was the one Tyler gave me and I threw it at him when we broke up.
Nevertheless, she didn’t stop there.
She jumped in to say cheerfully, “We are getting married.” Because your belongings are no longer being used by you now, the next option is…”

I shivered when I realized. She wanted my wedding ceremony, including all my hand-chosen decorations and DIY centerpieces and she wanted my wedding dress.
Her reasoning? It’s a waste if everything goes to nothing. Besides, the extra funds can be put to better use since you don’t need another dress.

I laughed bitterly, feeling sure she must be kidding with me. However, once her smile remained, I understood that she meant what she said.
I said no and I tried my best to slam the door shut on her.

She was not happy about it. She prevented me from closing the door, grumbled and once she understood she wasn’t winning, she called me selfish and brought up the idea that I’m obviously bitter about this.
The kicker? Our mom was there to stand by her!

As she had me barricaded in my apartment, Amanda told mom that I wasn’t being friendly!
Mom told me on the phone that I had to forgive myself. Giving her the dress, the venue and the flowers would make it clear that you have a bigger heart. Mature people take care of their needs.
Right. Try to react positively instead of letting hurt or anger overwhelm you.

Yet, after serious thought, I saw there could be another way for me to act bigger than my opponent… not following their example.
I made the decision to display my incredible size for them.
Later that night, I phone Amanda so that I sound friendly and smiling.
I gave it to her without hesitation. All parts of it. The outfit, the location and the arrangements of flowers. I can make sure the gown is delivered to your home, on the same morning as your wedding.

She squealed. Finally growing up and gaining maturity! She was happy to tell me how joyful she felt. Feeling happy, I appreciated pride in a different way.
Hope to see you at that time.
I did what I promised to do.

Well, some aspects are the same…
The place where the event was meant to happen was not yet off the list. We were still expecting the florist and caterer to show up. The deposit was used for the basic needs. I made sure to cover all the costs myself from the start which meant no unexpected bills would bother me at the finish.

Because the event refused to give refunds after that time, it was still best to keep our tickets.
Let them into our lives!
I woke up with the sun to get ready for their ceremony. I put on my simple ivory gown and the twinkling beading caught the light from the morning. I dressed myself up, tidied my hair and put on my jacket with a peace I didn’t know I had.

Already when I got to the venue, the florist was preparing everything.
I nodded, smiling and explained that the rooms were placed the same way we had anticipated.
The tables had my homemade centerpieces which were glass jars held by lace and filled with different wildflowers. The chairs were positioned beneath a floral arch I put together. Mimosas were waiting in the glasses for everyone.

I was comforted by my friends, who stood by me through everything and they were wearing the pastel outfits I had first planned for my bridesmaids. We rejoiced at meeting again and told me how good my news was to avoid Tyler!
There was no wedding involved. It was a brunch that I planned!
I was expecting Amanda and Tyler for their early afternoon ceremony, but they were naturally going to show up late, so I wasn’t surprised when they did. They went to their friends’ house and soon realized that everyone had started to gather. The friends, families and distant cousins of the couples were shocked and confused because of what had happened.

The two of them looked embarrassed, with the future bride yanking on her wedding dress while the future groom stood in place by her side, whispering loudly. I was frozen at the sight of me, posing at the head table with my champagne glass, showing off the beautiful gown like a queen!
There was no place for my sister and ex-fiancé’s guests to sit due to the changes I made in ordering fewer tables.

Amanda’s lips moved up and down! “What are you doing?” she asked with a hiss.
My glass went quietly onto the table, my hands folded on my lap and I smiled with contentment.
Taking advantage of the place I bought a ticket for. The outfit I purchased. Surrounded by my close friends and family. Beautiful, isn’t it?

She gaped! Tyler moved his feet to a different position. While their guests were behind them, you could see many glances exchanged on groups and the rumors started spreading like a blaze.
Even though Amanda’s face changed, she could see what was happening. Realized that nothing could be fixed at that point. No ceremony. No celebration. No wedding. Looking at the guests and the place cards that carried my friends’ names, she realized it was all wrong and it wasn’t going to be her wedding.

Therefore, she stopped, grabbed on to Tyler’s arm and started walking out angrily! Some of the guests followed the couple out of the garden. A person in the crowd said, “This is just crazy…” As they were heading home, everyone felt better.

I picked my glass to propose a toast.
I said, “To closure.”

A gentle breeze lifted my dress which I knew no one else would wear. It felt like I had not felt free in ages.
The friends still around lifted their glasses and clinked them with mine.

“Keep going, you deserve it,” said Megan softly.
I smiled. “I know.”
