It was just a day after he helped baseball team to win its championship that a 10 year-old boy of Pennsylvania dies of a heart attack.

A baseball player aged 10, who assisted his team to clinch a championship title died of a heart attack after leaving a community in Pennsylvania in shock.

Bryson Funk, a Linglestown resident died on Thursday after experiencing a heart attack due to myocarditis which leads to inflammation of the middle layer of the heart wall.

According to his family who spoke to CBS 21 he was born with the congenital heart defects coarctation of the aorta and a deformed bicuspid aortic valve but the doctors had clarified that, these conditions were not related to his death.


One day before the surprising catastrophe, the small league player threw the last three innings of the championship match of his team.

He fanned the last batting player of the opponents and drove the Colts to the win.

Bryson was an athlete indeed, said Nicki Branther, one of the relatives of Bryson in a GoFundMe page, that was designed to raise money to cover his funeral expenses.

The gruesome death has shaken his friends, teammates and loved ones, as they have gone to social media to celebrate the life of the young man who was reportedly full of life and active.

The Lower Paxton Township Community wrote, ‘We lost a shining light too soon, YESTERDAY, to our baseball family,’ on Facebook in a devastating photo tribute on Friday.


He inspired energy, kindness, and passion and also he was a genuine fan of the game each time he was on the field.

The Linglestown Baseball Association said Bryson was a prospect with high energy and talent who was an All-Star who exuded energy, kindness and a genuine love of the game everywhere he played.

His group has taken the jersey of Bryson to games during the weekend as a tribute to the untimely departed player.

Besides being a good pitcher, Bryson was an asset in 717 Athletics cheerleading team.

The team wrote: “Bryson lit up and lit up the life of so many people and made us laugh and laugh and laugh.”

He had way too little time with us, and the love he shared and the memories he left behind will always be forever etched in our minds.’

Death of Bryson was also addressed by the Peyton Walker Foundation, a nonprofit group that forms awareness to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in young people, and promotes heart screenings, as well.

The organization stated: We are devastated at the Peyton Walker Foundation to hear about the loss of life of a young athlete like Bryson Funk in our community.

We sympathize with the family, friends and the grieving. Please remember them in your thoughts and prayers at this immensely most trying time.’

The number of deaths of kids which occurs in the US every year due to SCA makes up about 2,000, as reported by the Children Hospital of Philadelphia.

These are sudden heart attacks whose most typical victims are the male sex and their ages range between 10 and 19.

Although SCA is quite a rare phenomenon, it was noted that it is the cause of up to five percent of deaths in individuals of five to 19 years of age, Johns Hopkins reported.

Besides the GoFundMe which has collected over 42.000 dollars, a Meal Train was made in order to assist the grieving parents of Bryson, Todd and Amy, and younger sister.
