Young father dies saving fiancée, kids, and mom in Texas floods

Over the course of the Fourth of July weekend, stories of death and survival surfaced as devastating floodwaters rushed through sections of Texas; none were more tragic than the story of Julian Ryan, 27.

acted quickly.

Approximately four in the morning on Friday, Julian was at home in Ingram, Texas, with his mother, his fiancée Christina Wilson, and their two small children, who were only six and thirteen months old, when the flash floods struck. Their trailer filled with water in a matter of minutes, turning what had started out as a typical night into a nightmare.

Julian didn’t have time to wait for assistance.

He gave his family an opportunity to flee to the roof by punching through a window. However, in the process, he cut an artery, which his fiancée claimed almost decapitated his arm.

“My husband was dead by six o’clock,” Christina said to KHOU 11. He was completely bloodless. “I love you all, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it,” he said, glancing at me, the children, and my mother-in-law.

It was the last farewell he said.

All of Julian’s family members were saved because to his brave deed. The gap he made allowed Julian’s mother, Christina, and their kids to survive. The price, however, was too high.

“He gave it his all.”

After the water eventually subsided, Christina discovered Julian’s body. Hours passed before authorities could bring him back.

His mother referred to her son as “the hero of this story” when she was still grieving.

“He sacrificed everything for us to survive,” Christina continued.

There have been at least 82 recorded deaths in Texas as a result of the devastating flooding, including Julian’s.

In a few of hours, authorities say, more than a month’s worth of rain dropped, causing rivers like the Guadalupe to rise up to 26 feet. Twenty-eight of the victims were minors.

Julian’s home county of Kerr County was one of the most severely affected.

Since then, a state of emergency has been issued in Texas. Throughout the area, authorities have sent out more than 100 troops, high-water vehicles, rescue boats, and helicopters.

Petty Officer Scott Ruskin, a U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer, was one of the heroes; he personally rescued an astounding 165 individuals during the devastating floods.

Rescues, boats, high water vehicles, and rescue divers have been working all day, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Col. Freeman Martin.

“We will do whatever it takes to make sure that every asset, person, plane, and other necessary resource is involved in the process of rescuing every last person,” Governor Greg Abbott pledged.

In addition, President Trump highlighted the problem, describing it as a “terrible thing” and pledging assistance: “It appears that some young people have lost their lives.”

Julian’s family is still grieving, but they are also resolute in their efforts to make sure his sacrifice is never forgotten. To avoid more fatalities, they are now advocating for better warning systems, such as flood sirens.

Christina stated that he shouldn’t have had to pass away. “But we were saved by him.”

To help the family, a GoFundMe page has already raised more than $88,000.

There was no cape worn by Julian Ryan. He didn’t request praise. But in the midst of pandemonium, he made the brave and loving decision. He is therefore a real hero. 💔
