Cory Booker and Alexis Lewis Tie the Knot in Two Intimate Ceremonies 2 Months After Announcing Their Engagement

The senator and his bride marked the occasion in a way that mirrored the depth and quiet intimacy of their union as they entered married life with a sense of peaceful intention during the quiet stretch of late fall.

Only a few weeks after declaring their engagement, Cory Booker and Alexis Lewis tied the knot in two emotional ceremonies in Newark and Washington, D.C., then shared the news on social media.

In a November 30, 2025, carousel post, Booker expressed effusive thanks and noted that they exchanged vows in his own beloved Newark and in his bride’s birthplace of Washington, D.C.

They added that they were quite grateful for the experience, both at the courthouse and later with their families.

A carousel of personal photos was displayed next to the announcement. Warm lighting softened the atmosphere as Lewis grinned and closed his eyes in one picture of Booker and Lewis sharing a tranquil, intimate embrace.

Another depicted the couple standing hand in hand outside a lavish, cathedral-style entryway that was aglow in the afternoon. Booker is silently admiring her while Lewis is wearing a beautiful white dress and holding a tiny bouquet.

In a third picture, the pair stood in front of a large “NEWARK” sign surrounded by vibrant fall foliage. Lewis, wearing a white dress, was leaning into Booker, who was grinning triumphantly, fusing romance with a sense of place.

A radiant cityscape, a floral arch, and a family on their side

The celebration was extended in a second set of photos taken that same day. In one image, her fiance stood majestically in his wedding suit, while Lewis stood in the middle in a strapless lace gown, smiling and clutching a bouquet.

Under the floral arrangements and golden lighting, the couple was surrounded by two adults and Booker’s mother, Carolyn Booker, as they took pictures.

Lewis was smiling under a veil that trailed behind his wife in another photo of the couple under an elaborate floral arch, surrounded by roses and greenery. Meanwhile, Booker, dressed in a traditional tuxedo, stood next to her.

In one slide, Lewis’s gown glowed when she put her arms around Booker, and the couple was seen kissing on a midnight balcony overlooking a glowing cityscape.

The couple’s social media posts were inundated with joyous remarks from their followers. She will be a stunning First Lady! Now let’s goooooo! Congratulations to you both, wrote one Instagram user, while another commented, “By the way, the dress and the woman are stunning!!”

“Gorgeous. Oh my God this cape is stunning. Just like the bride! Congrats! 🥂” said a third user. On Facebook, fans applauded the shots, with one saying,

“Wow! Congratulations! What beautiful photos!” and another, “Good job! She’ll make a wonderful First Lady!”

One fan commented, “NOW become the next First Couple!!!!” Another fan commented on another Instagram page, pointing out the couple’s similarity, saying, “Thought these were siblings. Same smirk.” Another said, “They look alike,” and a third said, “They definitely look like brother and sister!”

A Symbolic, Private, and Quiet Wedding

Later, the New York Times revealed more information: on Saturday, November 29, the couple held a private interfaith ceremony in Washington, D.C., where a pastor and a rabbi performed under a huppah with pictures of departed family members all around.

According to the site, the couple formally married on Monday inside the federal courthouse in Newark, while their parents watched the ceremony, which was officiated by Judge Julien Xavier Neals.

Following the completion of the paperwork, they celebrated with vegan chocolate chip cookie dough cake and Italian pastries, a small treat catered to Booker’s plant-based diet.

Lewis is not vegan, but the dessert was a nice middle ground. For security reasons, the couple, who reside in the Central Ward of Newark, kept their wedding plans a secret.

‘Dreamlover’ in Kauai after a five-hour first date

Lewis, 38, is the director of investments for Brasa Capital Management in Los Angeles and was born in Washington.

She has experience working on economic policy in the office of former Mayor Eric Garcetti, where she backed programs that encouraged diversity in the entertainment sector and commercial growth in South Los Angeles.

Booker, 56, has served in public office for a long time, having served as mayor and on the Newark City Council before becoming a U.S. senator in 2013.

In May 2024, the couple went on a blind date after being introduced by a mutual acquaintance who was a matchmaker.

After more than five hours of their first meeting, Booker quickly convinced Lewis to extend her travel schedule so they could get together again.

Their second date, which included supper in Newark, a Broadway performance, and a lengthy walk that ended with their first kiss outside the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, apparently exceeded the first, according to an email that Booker later revealed.

Since then, they have adopted a foster dog named Cooke and developed a life full of shared traditions, such as cooking, playing cards, singing, and watching television.

On August 24, 2025, when local musicians were performing Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover,” a song Lewis had loved since she was a child, Booker proposed to her. This marked the beginning of their engagement on Kauai.

Lewis allegedly wrote in an email that one change of plans changed her life’s trajectory.

She hadn’t been certain she would get married after years of paving her own way, but meeting Booker at a time when they were both going through substantial personal development changed her perspective and made their engagement feel even more meaningful.

As they start their new chapter, the public’s enthusiasm combines with conjecture regarding Booker’s prospects on the national scene, a theme that well-wishers frequently repeat.

For Booker and Lewis, however, their wedding posts provided something much more straightforward: a picture of love, thankfulness, and the locations that influenced them.

Booker and Lewis were already a national talking point before their wedding day garnered much attention; their engagement and the subsequent reactions laid the foundation for the public’s current infatuation with their marriage.

A Growing Spotlight, Private Commitment, and Public Joy

Public interest had been growing since Booker announced their engagement in a deeply personal post on September 2, even though the wedding attracted fresh attention.

The legislator said in part, “I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged! I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée.”

She helped him grow, find serenity, and finally embrace a sense of home, the senator said, calling Lewis nothing less than a great blessing.

His own message was one of appreciation, affection, and emotional stability. Booker’s announcement, along with a number of engagement pictures, went viral on social media shortly after going public, igniting a flurry of responses.

Fans quickly showered the newlyweds with love on Instagram. “She has a spectacular smile,” exclaimed one admirer, while another exulted, “Congratulations! Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness!🙌🍾❤️.”

“Total First Lady vibes – just sayin [sic],” read a third, who couldn’t help but comment on Lewis’s composed appearance. “Congratulations…but you definitely have a type…literally thought she was Rosario!” said another, referring to Booker’s ex-girlfriend, actress Rosario Dawson.

There wasn’t universal acclaim, though. “That’s a [sic] wedding band? I don’t see a rock,” said one skeptic on Facebook, while another teasingly asked,

“The engagement ring has no stone and is that a sixth toe on homegirl’s right foot?” Another person added, “Is it me, but that doesn’t look like an engagement ring? Lol.”

Booker’s amorous past was also brought into the conflict. “Sir, you must have really loved Rosario because you went and got yourself a near replica 🤣 WOW!” stated an observer. Another replied, “She kinda look like Rosario… Guess he couldn’t get over her.”

Dawson herself into the discussion as social media was ablaze with comments. “Love Love! Congratulations you two! ❤️❤️” was the comment made by the “Sin City” star, who dated Booker for over two years, on his post.

Ultimately, despite the festivities, the scrutiny, and the chorus of voices that accompanied every stage of their journey, Booker and Lewis were able to return to the beginning of it all: a relationship that developed gradually, in private, and purposefully.
