Flight attendant finds secret note in airplane toilets that reads “I need help” – immediately calls police
Most people associate flying with pleasant, thrilling trips. Sadly, not everyone has that perspective.
Shelia Fredrick has been a flight attendant for many years and is accustomed to challenging passenger scenarios. Nevertheless, she didn’t anticipate seeing anything revolutionary. But she did on the plane from Seattle to San Francisco.
She saw something particularly strange when they were on the plane: an elderly man dressed nicely seated next to a blonde girl wearing ratty clothes. Shelia saw the glance the girl shot her as she passed them. She sensed a sense of urgency as the girl’s gaze penetrated her deeply.
“This girl struck me as kind of strange. I felt that something wasn’t right. The first clue was the girl’s extremely poor attire in comparison to the man. Too great a change, Sheila mused to herself.

When she made the decision to approach the man, he grew quite guarded. Shelia began to suspect a problem.
I initially felt that something wasn’t quite right. He responded angrily to any movement around him and seemed far more mature than the girl seated next to him. I’m glad I was able to act swiftly to save a life.

She went to the toilet after a little while and set down a pen and paper there. If the girl needed assistance, she hoped she would use these.
Shelia passed the child again, gesturing for her to use the loo. The girl stood up and headed to the toilet.
When Sheila came back, she found a message that said, “I need help.”
She made an instant call to the police. Police prepared to apprehend the man as soon as the jet touched down.
This 14-year-old girl was a victim of human trafficking, they discovered. It had just been two months since her kidnapping.

Nancy Rivard, a retired flight attendant, founded Airline Ambassadors International. Attendees receive training on identifying clues related to human trafficking.
Shelia was trained by them to help her see this girl more clearly in the future once she found her.
