Mom Disables Sound of Baby Monitor at Midnight, Wakes up Hours Later to Check on Her Little Kid

When she woke up a couple of hours later to check on her daughter, a mother who had silenced the sound on her baby monitor at midnight came face to face with the most shocking experience of her life.
Through a post on the “beyondthebump” topic of Reddit, member Abc123xyz789qrs456 detailed a terrifying scenario she went through when she mistakenly muted the sound on her baby monitor, thinking that her child was sound asleep in his cot.

Instead of expressing her sympathies, the mother of a baby who was six months old expressed her desire to receive some assurances that her child would recover from the terrifying experience.

It was that evening when the Original Poster (OP) left, leaving the infant in the hands of her mother. Having having nursed him, she believed that he would not wake up hungry for a considerable amount of time. At approximately eleven o’clock at night, OP arrived home and peered into the nursery of her son. Because it was half past eight, the infant had been sound sleeping for quite some time. According to her mother, the toddler did not consume much food or liquids before going to bed.
Even though she was under the impression that everything was in order, the woman went back into the nursery to take one final check before going to bed. After closing the door, she stepped out of the room while carrying the baby monitor. It was around midnight, or perhaps a few of hours later (OP couldn’t be sure), that she heard her baby shift in his sleep, but she couldn’t remember the exact time.

The next morning, she was uneasy since she had noticed a significant shift in her child’s demeanour, and she was concerned about it.
If she wanted to avoid disturbing her husband, she turned down the sound on the monitor for a brief period of time (although she only dimly recalled doing so) in order to check on her child’s status. After that, she tucked the monitor beneath her pillow, which was something she did frequently in order to reduce the amount of static. After going back to sleep, she did not realise until the following day that she had neglected to switch on the monitor’s sound before going back to sleep.

Due to the fact that the monitor was muted, they were unable to hear the baby from the bedroom, and they continued to be unaware of what was going on in the nursery. This is when the situation became even more dire.

Due to the fact that she was aware of her child’s recent late-night awakenings, OP rushed out of bed at approximately four in the morning to check on her child. When she looked into the cot, however, she didn’t understand what she was seeing. OP was troubled by the toddler’s sleeping posture, despite the fact that the infant was resting in the corner of the room. At first, she was completely perplexed by the situation.
Having completed a full rotation of 180 degrees, he had rolled over onto his stomach. She was certain that her son never moved around when he was sleeping, and she started to feel suspicious.

Subsequently, she came to the realisation that her infant typically moved around in his sleep only when he was awake and crying. Before falling asleep in such position, the infant most likely experienced a great deal of wailing and thrashing. OP was the one who criticised herself for not being present when her child required her presence. In the later hours of the morning, she became uneasy since she perceived a significant shift in her infant’s demeanour.

The infant who had been beaming with joy appeared to be in a melancholy mood. The fact that he was hesitant to grip OP’s finger led her to believe that his gestures were not entirely sincere. The mother then recalled an earlier error that she had made and resolved to never make again.
At one point, OP awoke to the sound of her baby wriggling, and she immediately silenced the monitor to assess whether or not her child had begun to cry. After that, she closed her eyes and fell asleep for an hour when she had no intention of doing so.

At the time, she made a commitment to herself that she would never allow it to happen again; nevertheless, it appears that she did it once more, and now she is unable to find the strength to get over it. “I’ve made mistakes in the past, but never to this extent,” she admitted regretfully.

After being taken aback, OP came to social media to admit that she had made a mistake. She was concerned that this would have a negative impact on her child’s life in the long run and would also negatively harm their connection.
On the other hand, users on Reddit shared with OP the belief that her son will ultimately forget what had occurred and return to his happy self. Written by caffeine_lights, the user:

Accidents are inevitable. Make amends, and then go on. I have no doubt that he will…The fact that you are in a good, loving, and committed relationship does not mean that a single occurrence will cause him harm or cause your relationship to suffer.

There have been a great number of infants who have been subjected to the same situation as a result of an emergency, and they have emerged unscathed. You should just give it a day or two,” a user on Reddit named hybbprqag said.

The individual stated that she wanted to be sure that her irresponsibility would not have any impact on her child, despite the fact that other people had assured her that the baby would be alright.
When I look at him, however, I only see hurt, betrayal, neglect, abandonment, and bewilderment. This is what I see every time I look at him. “I am utterly heartbroken,” she concluded.
