Bouncer Blocks Old Lady at Rock Concert until Lead Singer Comes out for Her
Meryl had been looking for her grandson, Brandon, for a very long time. Her daughter had left him at a shelter years prior. However, it appeared to be all for nothing. She found him at a location where she stuck out like a sore thumb, just as she was about to give up.
Meryl had a lot on her mind as she strolled hesitantly approaching the queue full of young partygoers. Would he take her word for it? Where would she begin to give a detailed explanation? In his life, did he really want her?
The blaring music at the concert, the busy streets, and the confused looks, giggles, and whispers from the young people in queue at the big club housing the performance were all overwhelming her nervous thoughts.
One child asked, laughing with his companions, “Who invited grandma?”

Another one snickered cheekily, “Looks like someone forgot to take their pills and lost her way to Bingo night.”
Another person said, “She’s definitely lost,” as Meryl entered the queue.
Meryl had seen far too many insensitive people in her seventy-five years of life. She had nothing personal against these kids. The lengthy delay made her even more apprehensive about seeing him, which was all she wanted to do.
When Meryl eventually moved up to the front of the queue, Don, the bouncer, was taken aback to see the elderly woman in front of him. He glanced about, perplexed, as though he was expecting someone to materialise out of the shadows and claim her.
“Yes! What’s causing the delay?”
“Hello, dear. Are you lost, um?” Don inquired in a courteous manner.
“Hello, young man. No, Meryl answered, ‘I am not lost.
“Oh…” Don merely replied, unsure of how to interpret the circumstances.
“What’s your name, son?” Meryl questioned as she drew nearer to hear Don over the loud music playing inside the arena.
“Donavan is my name. Don answered, “But everyone calls me Don.”
“Don, it’s nice to meet you. Meryl is my name. I hoped that—” Meryl got going before one of the kids interrupted.
“Go on, dear old woman! It’s not our entire day!” The irritated child growled.
“Yes! What’s causing the delay?” another was included.
Behind Meryl, the throng of people was starting to grow agitated. To get to the front, they began yelling and pushing. Don moved forward and authoritatively held out his hand to the throng.

“Slow down! Everyone will get the opportunity. Just have patience,” declared Don. The crowd was resistant at first, but they quickly became silent.
“Ma’am, I don’t have all day,” Don remarked, becoming agitated at the elderly woman.
“I apologise for adding unnecessary stress to your work. Meryl showed him a picture of a young man and said, “I came to see this young man.” Behind them, the throng erupted in even more boisterous laughing.
Meryl scans her surroundings, bewildered and a little ashamed. Don turned his gaze from the photo to the band’s poster. The lead singer was the man in the photo. Don cast a suspicious glance at Meryl as he considered his next move.
“Okay, please proceed through the metal detector,” Don responded, against his better judgement and giving the woman a chance.
He was beginning to doubt the woman.
Don had learned from his years as a bouncer that not everything at these kinds of parties was as it looked, even though she was an elderly lady.
“Thank you so much!” Meryl replied, quite appreciatively.
As soon as Meryl passed through the metal detector, it began to ring. Exasperated, Don turned to face the elderly woman.
“I don’t think you’re going to this concert tonight, lady. Besides, an elderly woman has no place there,” Don remarked. Meryl reached into her pocket and produced a locket necklace, which she gave to Don while he was still talking.
“Observe, Don. I would hate to hold you or these other young people any longer than necessary, but I sincerely appreciate everything you’ve done for me today. Just give him this and let him know I’m searching for him outside, please. Would you please?” Meryl uttered a sincere request. Don let out a long sigh and took the necklace with reluctance.
“Alright, I’ll get it to one of the guys working backstage, and they’ll pass on the message,” Don said.
“Den, thank you very much. I really appreciate it,” Meryl remarked.
Meryl prayed and hoped that the young man would receive her message as she sat in an adjacent hallway. She was concerned about misplacing the jewellery as well. Meryl held significant sentimental meaning for it in addition to its monetary worth.
Meryl waited for a few minutes when she heard raucous applause coming from the people encircling the queue. The lead vocalist, Brandon, appeared as she was looking, emerging from the excited and buzzing crowd.
“This is the woman,” Don declared as he ushered Brandon away from the raucous gathering and towards Meryl. As they walked towards Meryl, she twitched to her feet. When Brandon finally got to her, she smiled broadly and started to cry.

She examined the young man as though he were a visitor from another planet. She looked as if there was gold in his eyes. For a little while, Brandon remained silent, shocked by the woman’s actions.
“Brandon, I am not. I was your daughter, Bridget, your mother. Brandon, we’re kin.”
“Where did you get this?” Brandon snapped out of it and posed the question directly.
“You recognise it?” Meryl sighed in relief as she asked.
“Yes, it was my mother’s,” he replied, unscrewing the locket to reveal an image of Brandon, then eight years old, with his mother. Brandon said, “This is a picture of her and me when I was younger,” and stroked the pendant tenderly.
“Now, how did you get it?” This time, Brandon requested with a great deal more intensity. Meryl began to cry at the photo and then turned back to Brandon, still in shock.
“Bryan, I’m your grandmother, I guess. She pointed to the picture and nervously stated, “That’s my daughter.”
“You’re telling falsehoods! This locket, where did you obtain it?” Emotionally, Brandon stated.
“Brandon, I am not. I was your daughter, Bridget, your mother. Meryl admitted, “Brandon, we’re family.”
“No, that isn’t possible! My mother’s side despised me! She also…” Now in tears, Brandon began. He steeled himself for a time. After inhaling deeply, he went on. “In the end, she abandoned me at an orphanage. Heartbroken, Brandon murmured, “Never to be seen again.”
“Lady, I have no idea where you got this. However, you are free to retain it. Brandon remarked, “I don’t have a family,” as he threw the locket to the ground and wiped away his tears. “And Don, please don’t call me outside for such rubbish,” he continued, turning to face Don. It’s evident that this woman is insane.”
With a drunken cheer, the crowd embraced Brandon as he made his way towards the concerts.
Meryl’s legs gave up on her as she watched Brandon fade into the distance. She staggered side to side.
“Are you okay, ma’am?” Don held her up swiftly and asked. “Let’s take a seat. Don sat her down, picked up a nearby water bottle in the hallway, and handed it to Meryl. “I’ll get you water,” he said.
“I’m grateful, Don. I’ll be alright. Just a little too much was there. Can I still enter?” Meryl questioned while taking a big sip of water.
“Get in, ma’am?” Don enquired, puzzled.
“Into the musical performance. Meryl sadly remarked, “I would love to see him sing at least.”
“I’m sure it can be arranged, ma’am,” Don remarked, putting his arm around the elderly lady. “I simply need to know whether you’re game. Don said, “It gets pretty crazy in there.”
“Oh, kindly. I was a party animal in the 1950s. “This is insignificant,” Meryl mockingly remarked. As Don helped Meryl stand up and brought her into the event, they both laughed.

Meryl continued to be amazed by Brandon. even more so as she observed him doing what he loved on stage. She shed happy and sorrowful tears while she watched the concert.
Seeing her grandson doing what he loved, in his element, brought her delight. Meryl’s daughter loved music just as much, but she never went into the industry. She thought about her daughter while she watched him.
Meryl was devastated, though, by the prospect that she might never meet him. While she had hoped for a better outcome, it appeared that this performance would be her only chance to see her grandson in the future.
Don had been observing her the entire time, feeling terrible and with sympathy for Meryl. He positioned himself next to her, watching her carefully in case she passed out. He watched as Meryl started to falter once more. Don hurried up to her and placed her on the couch after assisting her into the next staff hall.
Don chuckled, “So much for partying in the ’50s.” Really, are you alright? Do I need to dial an ambulance? Don queried.
“Don, I’m alright. I’m just a little heartbroken and fatigued. At my age, engaging in excessive emotional or physical activity can land you in the hospital. However, I’m alright. All I need is a little time to heal,” Meryl remarked.
“All right, now. Don sat next to her and said, “I’ll wait with you till you’re better.
Meryl told him her story and they talked for the remainder of the concert. Meryl was unaware of Brandon’s existence. He was born to her daughter Bridget, who reared him in secret for almost eight years. Meryl wasn’t fond of the boyfriend Bridget eloped with.
When Brandon’s mother was questioned about his relatives, all she would say was that they couldn’t be with them and that their family hated them. Brandon’s father abandoned him and his mother just before he turned six. After raising him by herself for two years, Bridget started to feel sick.
As her medical bills mounted, she realised she couldn’t afford to raise him and decided to leave him in an orphanage. Years later, in a weak state, Bridget knocked on her door, pleading for assistance in finding her son.
Bridget recounted all that had occurred along the years. She explained to Meryl that she had searched the orphanage for him, but that Brandon was lost in the system and that his information had vanished.
Meryl consented to assist, and for a few months they looked for Brandon without success. Later that year, Bridget passed away. Before she went away, Meryl treasured the time they had together.
During their little time together, they healed past hurts and showed each other how much they cared.
They managed to make it work, even if it was challenging given everything with Brandon. Since they were the only family they had left, Bridget’s final request to her mother was to deliver the locket to Brandon and support him.

Meryl said, “And now, here I am, trying to do exactly that,” capping the tale as she sat with Don on the couch and appeared much better.
“Whoa. That is quite the tale. How then did you locate him?” Don queried.
“Well, to be honest, I had given up looking after a few years. Meryl looked sombre as she added, “I didn’t have the strength for another disappointment, but I was still praying to find the boy.”
“One day, a former friend of mine paid me a visit along with her grandkid. She informed me the little child in the locket picture resembled the main singer of her favourite band. My study brought me to this conclusion. Sadly, it appears that it might have all been in vain “Meryl sighed deeply.
Don’s heart went out to the woman as he gazed at her. Having never met his parents, he was reared by his grandma. Don found the entire scenario to be too personal. If he did not make an effort to assist Meryl’s family, he believed he would be betraying his grandma and his morality.
“Listen, nothing is guaranteed. But I get along really well with Brandon. I’ll do my best to speak with him,” Don said.
“Are you serious? Oh, my darling, thank you. God bless you!” Meryl exclaimed, breaking down in tears.
Meryl began drinking tea at home one month later. She thought about Brandon as she examined the locket on the table. After a month, she assumed that even Don was unable to persuade him, as she had not received any word from him. Immediately after she unlocked the locket, the doorbell rang.
She put the locket lightly on the table and murmured, “Coming.” There was another ring to the doorbell.
Meryl said, “I’ll be right there,” as she walked over to the door. Her heart melted with pleasure the moment she opened the door.
“Brandon?” Meryl let out a gasp.
“Hello. “I think I’m finally ready to hear it for myself. I had a chat with Don,” tearful Brandon remarked, passing her flowers.
“Obviously. Meryl said, “Please come in,” and ushered him inside.

From the start, Meryl told Brandon everything there was to know about his mother. She conveyed her daughter’s love for him and gave him the locket. Brandon learned of his mother’s passing and started crying uncontrollably.
He had believed she was somewhere, still out there. He had thought that maybe they would get another chance. After Meryl consoled him, they became grandparents and grandson. They were reunited as family after that day.
