My Sister-in-Law Tried to Ruin Our Lives – My Wife and I Taught Her a Lesson Instead

Over the course of several years, a man’s sister-in-law persistently tormented him. But when he decided to enlist a legal counsel in order to provide himself and his wife the opportunity to have peace of mind, things took a dramatic turn for the better.
A 37-year-old guy posted on Reddit in January 2023 about the difficulties he was experiencing in his life, which included his wife, “Jenna,” who was 34 at the time, and her family. The Original Poster (OP) reported that his spouse has a sister named “Mary,” who was 24 years old at the time.

While they were growing up, Jenna’s parents regularly compared her sister siblings to each other, which caused her to struggle with her body image when she was younger. On the other hand, her spouse is of the opinion that she is breathtakingly gorgeous, despite the fact that she does not consider this to be true. “This is in large part because of her sister ‘Mary,’ who is very conventionally attractive, as opposed to Jenna’s more unconventional but (IMO) striking beauty,” the OP explained.

During the early stages of the couple’s relationship, OP would compliment his future bride on how beautiful she was, and she would react by saying, “Just wait until you see my sister.” Jenna would frequently force him to talk about Mary once he had finally met the family. She would question him whether he felt her sister was more attractive than she was.
“I think Mary is attractive in a boring way, and that I think my wife is much more beautiful and interesting to look at,” according to him. On the other hand, Jenna continued to bring it up until he finally inquired about the nature of the issue.

Sometime in the future, Jenna disclosed to her that she had been compared to her sibling, Mary, because their parents had consistently stated that Mary was more attractive and intellectual than she was. In addition, Jenna claims that her sister had a pattern of flirting with all of her previous partners, and she told OP that the same thing would happen to him.

During her tears, she pleaded with him to refrain from cheating on her with Mary, and he told her that he would never do something like that. In his admission, he stated that he believed Jenna’s statement that Mary would make moves on him was nothing more than an act of insecurity. Nevertheless, that turned out to be the case during a gathering of the family.

The OP disclosed, “Mary always finds ways to touch me and make little innuendos/comments about me or my body.” The fact that this made him and his spouse feel uneasy prompted him to request that Mary refrain from doing it.
Although she would only stop for a short period of time, she continued in any case, which lasted for a total of six years. Another event took place around the time that OP’s mother-in-law was celebrating her birthday. In order to retrieve something from the garage, Mary requested his assistance. It came to his mind:

Suddenly, she spun around and slammed me against the door with her entire body. She then began to make an attempt to kiss me. Instantaneously, I took her away from me.
He inquired about what she was doing, and she responded with a chuckle, stating that she was doing exactly what they had both been thinking the entire time. However, OP stated that she was “out of her mind” and hurriedly left the room.

His wife was informed that they should leave, and while they were on their way home, he also disclosed the events that had taken place. Unsurprisingly, Jenna was utterly heartbroken. According to her sister, who made an attempt to get in touch with her, OP informed her that she was “the hottest girl [he had] ever seen.” It was necessary for OP to soothe Jenna once more because she believed him rather than her sibling. She stopped eating and distanced herself from OP, feeling worse about herself as a result of the news. However, she took the news very seriously.

OP made the decision to write about the matter on Reddit after it had occurred, seeking other users for advice on how to deal with it. Later that evening, he assured Jenna that he would be there for her if she made the decision to work on repairing her relationship with Mary. On the other hand, he would not feel at ease being in her presence for the foreseeable future.

He added that it was obvious that Mary had always been envious of her throughout their entire lives due to the fact that she was the total opposite of her. In addition, the OP stated that Jenna’s family is poisonous because they have belittled her throughout her entire life and that she had to determine whether or not she still desires to keep them in her life.

For the sake of the improvement of their relationship, he reassured her that she was not to blame for her emotional reaction,

but that she needed to work on her insecurities and attend therapy in order to make their relationship stronger. Additionally, OP stated that he would go to therapy, particularly after holding thoughts of animosity toward Mary, who had been sexually assaulting him for years – which ultimately harmed both of them as a pair. Mary had been abusing him physically and sexually.

In spite of the fact that others recognized her for who she was, Jenna was made to realize that her family had always made her feel inferior. She consented to attend treatment, and the two of them also made the decision to visit a therapist who specializes in working with couples. When Jenna notified her parents about what had occurred, she also assured them that she would make an effort to get in touch with them if she desired to mend their relationship.

Mary continued to harass OP, spreading negative information about him to his family and friends, despite the fact that they blocked her family everywhere. In addition to claiming that he was a drug addict, she asserted that he had assaulted her and that he was also beating his wife.

The third update was sent by OP one month later, and it stated that Mary had exacerbated the matter by attempting to harm his reputation at his place of employment. It was recalled by him that she had informed his manager that he should be dismissed because he was a “predator” and that he had assaulted her, and that she had evidence of its occurrence.
She informed OP’s supervisor that she had a video that showed him attacking her, but when she was requested to deliver it, she continued to make excuses until she hung up the phone. Mary said that she possessed the footage. That was not the final strategy that she employed.

OP’s personal email account was used to send an email to the entire office where he works, which had a photo of a male’s genitals. She was able to send this email to the entire office. It was necessary for him to apologize to his coworkers, who were forgiving.
According to OP, this was the final straw, and he and Jenna made the decision to pursue legal action because Mary was adamant about not giving in to their demands. A cease-and-desist letter was drafted by them with the assistance of their friend who was a lawyer. The letter stated that she was harassing them continuously and that it was causing them both emotional and material harm.

“My wife then sent a message to Mary and my in-laws with a copy of the letter and made it very clear that we would pursue criminal and/or civil proceedings if her harassment continued,” explained the OP.
While she was crying, his mother-in-law contacted Jenna and asked her to let go of the situation. But Jenna reminded her that Mary was to fault, and that they had allowed her to behave in an unpleasant manner for a sufficient amount of time. After receiving that phone call, Jenna was prepared to completely sever all of her relationships with her family.
A few days later, “Anne,” Mary’s most sworn opponent, got in touch with OP’s brother and informed him that she had threatened to abandon them if they did not take legal action against her. Since that time, the couple has not received any communication from her.

Another update was sent by OP many months later, in August 2023, in which he stated that Mary and his in-laws had finally made the decision to leave them alone. Now that Jenna had begun to do well in her personal life and had learnt to advocate for herself, things had begun to return to their normal state.
Last but not least, OP disclosed that they were expecting a daughter, who was due in February of 2024. However, they would still permit Jenna’s family to be engaged in the child’s life, but they would do so only within very specific parameters. OP stated that “the cycle of toxic behavior will be broken.”
