‘I Don’t Want People To Worry About Me,’ Says Scott Hamilton, Who Is Fighting A Brain Tumor For The Third Time.

Olympic champion Scott Hamilton, 65, recently reunited with fellow figure skaters for a fundraiser benefiting cancer research. Hamilton, who has battled a brain tumor for the third time, emphasizes his commitment to living fully and not wanting others to worry about him. Despite the recurrence in 2016, he focuses on living a normal, active life and encourages others to fight cancer through compassion.

Last week, Olympic champion Scott Hamilton, 65, got together with the top two figure skaters he beat to win the gold medal in 1984: Brian Orser of Canada, who won the silver medal, and Jozef Sabovċík of Czechoslovakia, who won the bronze medal.

“That’s very uncommon,” a happy Scott Hamilton told The Tennessean over the phone on Thursday.

“I can’t think of another podium that would want to be back together 40 years later.”

Hamilton was even more excited about the meeting because it was a fundraiser for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation, which funds research into ways to fight cancer.

Hamilton moved to Middle Tennessee in 2005, so the cause is close to his heart.

He lost his mom to skin cancer when he was a teenager in 1977.

Hamilton has been dealing with a brain tumor for the third time in twenty years.

He beat testicular cancer in 1997. The first time, radiation killed it.

Once more, he had nine operations to get rid of the growth.

Finally, when it came back in 2016, Hamilton had another challenging surgery.

He chose not to get any treatment until he started to feel sick.

Several news stories this week have been about that choice, which was sparked by coverage of the 40th anniversary of his only Olympic gold.

After reading those stories, fans have many questions and worries, and the overflow touches Hamilton.

He says people who are worried about his health should also stay excellent. It is Hamilton.

“I don’t want people to worry about me at all,” he stated. “Now I’m having fun with house money.”

“I shouldn’t be here for a lot of reasons.” I’m also here. I have a party every day.”

Hamilton said that when he heard that the growth had returned, he felt a spiritual message telling him to “get strong.”

They asked me what I had in mind. “I’m going to get as strong as I can at home,” I said. It was mental, emotional, or spiritual, but that was the message.

At first, he had scans every so often. The growth was more significant and more minor each time.

He stopped getting scans, though as he couldn’t bear with the stress.

“I’m not going to worry about this one until I start to have symptoms, like losing my sight or having other health problems.” Then I can choose,” he said.

“Right now, I’m just trying to finish as many things as possible, stay as busy as possible, and live as normally as possible. Help fight cancer by being a good person.”
