Echoes of Betrayal: Confronting the Mockery That Shattered Trust
I Accidentally Overheard How My Girlfriend and Her Brother Mocked My Little Sister & Took an Action
My younger sister has relied heavily on me since the death of her parents. She was in the car when my parents got into the accident, which makes me feel incredibly fortunate to have her. My girlfriend knew that I would stop at nothing to please Lizzie, which is perhaps why it took me so long to discover her true feelings for my sister and me.

My parents were killed in a car accident, and Lizzie was the only one who survived. Nothing unusual for our town, it was a snowy evening, but I think my dad wanted to try taking a different path out to the lake than he typically did. He ultimately got lost, as did my mom and little Lizzie, and they stopped to study a map and recover their bearings when they were struck by a fast truck.
When I arrived to the hospital after racing home from college, I discovered that only my sister had lived. Despite having suffered significant burns in the crash, she was still alive. Naturally, I was devastated to learn of my parents’ deaths, but I was determined to take care of my younger sister, so I took time off from school to ensure Lizzie healed from her injuries. I gladly made the sacrifice to watch her stand back up.

I eventually completed my education and adopted Lizzie in order to provide her with a wonderful life. I acknowledge that I have adopted a somewhat protective attitude towards my younger sister. Nevertheless, in spite of the obstacles in her early life, she has developed into an amazing person. She has handled the ups and downs of high school head-on, surprise me at every turn with her courage and tenacity.
In addition to Lizzie, I’ve had two more significant figures in my life for the past two years. One day after work, I went to a nearby coffee shop and met Lora. I volunteered to pay for her drink as she had forgotten her wallet. After we got to conversing, we had a great relationship. She revealed that her parents had also passed away a few years prior, at which point I explained that I was taking care of my sister in lieu of my parents.
Lora and I had a quick developing relationship. In the initial months, we expressed our affection for one another. I know it’s quick, but I truly did adore her. She was excellent. witty, intelligent, and good with Lizzie. In addition, she was taking care of Brandon, her younger brother. In the hopes that Lizzie and Brandon would get along, I introduced them. I believed the young man was a fine man, even though they didn’t appear to get along very well.

One day, Lora told me that her job was to let people go, and I volunteered to help her with some of her expenses.
Regretfully, she lost her work, but she had no trouble finding another one, albeit at a lower salary.
So I made the decision to pay Brandon’s college expenses in order to support her even more. Like me, he was interested in IT, so I knew that once he graduated, he could find a nice career and support his sister.
And everything has been going well for the past year. Lora and I have never been closer, Brandon has been doing exceptionally well in his studies, and Lizzie is eager to graduate at the end of this year.
She’s been acting insecurely lately regarding her weight, and I’ve been attempting to encourage her.
I want her to know that she is perfect just the way she is. However, it’s a difficult battle that is made worse by rude remarks and malicious individuals.
Lora, who battled her weight as a teenager, has also been a wonderful source of guidance. She’s been giving me advice on how to encourage Lizzie and make her feel good about her appearance.
The one piece of advise that I haven’t acted upon is Lora’s recommendation to restrict my sister’s food intake.
That seemed strange to me, but Lora never brought it up again after I told her I wouldn’t be taking that path.
I assumed she recognised that Lizzie’s weight wasn’t an issue; rather, she needed to adopt a more positive self-perception. Whoa, I was incorrect.

Because Lora resides one town away for work, we have been video calling each other throughout the week.
I had the opportunity to catch up with her brother and learn about his academic progress as he has also been home for the past two weeks.
When I contacted Lora last night, as usual, she and Brandon sat side by side and grinned at me.
After a little while of conversation, I mentioned that I needed to check on the food I was making for my sister and myself.
I stood up, only taking out one earpiece. When I placed one down, they didn’t even mute the call before they began saying some of the most hateful things I’ve ever heard in my life, so I guess they thought I had taken them both out.
Now, their remarks were not uncalled for, nor were they directed at me specifically, but when they began their aggressive tirade, I was forced to put down what I was doing.
You see, Lizzie has been living in shorts because it has been so hot here for a while. I called her downstairs to help me dish up when I got up to see how the dinner was going, and she went past my still open laptop while wearing shorts and a t-shirt. That’s when the insults from Lora and Brandon began.

“Oh God…Have you noticed her? “What was he thinking?”
Yes, I am aware that she resembles…All I’m afraid of is her. She is so strange. She’s also quite bulky. Oh no. How come he didn’t offer her for adoption?”
That’s also what I’m curious about. I’ll get rid of him as soon as he pays for your education in full.”
I was shocked, to put it mildly. I was hearing things that I couldn’t believe. I put everything aside and spoke firmly into the earpiece that was still hanging over my head. “Oh, really, hon?”
With a frown on my face, I turned to face the laptop as I moved back towards it. Lora was aware of her error. She found it difficult to speak. She eventually found the right words to say, “Did you…did you hear us?”
I was furious, but I answered coolly. Yes, sweetie. And I’m so glad that I did. After hanging up the phone and turning off the computer, I went to eat dinner with my sister. What those two had said about her was not anything she deserved to hear. I stopped paying Brandon’s college after supper. If he wanted to talk about my sister that way, then he could have his own way.

I broke up communication with Lora. I never read any of the several messages she sent me apologising for what they had said. Spending a significant portion of my wages and even money I had inherited from my parents on entitled, parasitic people like Lora and Brandon made me feel foolish. Fortunately, Lizzie’s inheritance remained intact, and her future looked bright. I haven’t yet, and I’m sure I won’t, looked back on our breakup. All I can say is that I’m relieved to have learned about it before funding Brandon’s entire college education—the undeserved brat.
