Riches to Regrets: A Tale of Rejection, Karma, and Redemption

Wealthy Man Rejected His Poor Long Lost Daughter, Got Punished by Karma Days Later

Alexander, a wealthy businessman, deliberately ignores attempts by Clara, his biological daughter, to build a rapport with him. When she saves the life of a possible investor in his company and makes his actual, reprehensible nature publicly known, he suddenly becomes more pliable.

Clara’s pulse pounded like a drum as she stood in front of the opulent, towering mansion’s door. She lifted her hand and hesitated a while before allowing it to strike the wood with several hard taps.

A forty-something man opened the door. “Yes?” with a cold tone in his voice.

“Alexander? My name is Clara,” she tremblingly answered. “Your daughter.”

Alexander gave her a disbelieving glance. “My daughter? There isn’t a daughter of mine.

“You’re my dad, my mom informed me. Now that she’s gone, I wanted to meet you.”

“You just took her word for it? arrived here with what expectations? arms wide open? A joyous get-together?”

“I only need some clarification. Do you not wish to learn more about my mother?

Alexander gave a sarcastic laugh. “People don’t just show up and become family!”

Alexander’s hard expression momentarily softened as Clara handed him an old picture of her mother. “Linda,” he murmured.

“Yes, my mother Linda. Do you still recall her? Clara enquired.

Alexander’s voice became stern once more. “Do you remember her? Indeed, without a doubt. Let’s avoid romanticizing the past, though. Your mother was a mistake, a terrible phase of my life, a hippie layabout.”

Clara had a twinge of hurt for her mother’s memory as much as for herself.

“Error? To you, was that all she was? What does it make me, then?

“Yes, she was a mistake,” a chilly Alexander remarked. “You are merely the result of one error leading to another. Nothing is here to suit your needs.

With hope, she said, “Can’t we just talk and get to know each other?”

“Not a chance. Not another daughter, please. It’s better that you go,” Alexander firmly stated.

Clara realized that she was at a loss now. Never would this man accept her. She was about to walk away, dejected, when a quiet voice called out to her.

A young woman, who looked to be in her late twenties, had heard the last of their chat and was standing at the door of a nearby room. “Dad, who was that?”

Alexander said icily, “Nobody, just a mistake.”

Feeling rejected, Clara turned to go, the word “mistake” ringing in her ears. He lied, so yes, he has a daughter.

She didn’t think she would ever see her father when she accepted a job at an upscale restaurant a few weeks later. She was unaware that he frequently ate there. Alexander was one of the restaurant’s well-known wealthy patrons.

Alexander went to the restaurant one evening and sat at a table with a nice view. Clara was anxious and delighted to see him at the same time. He was waited on by another server, who handled him just like any other wealthy customer.

Presuming to be at work, she observed him and saw that he appeared preoccupied and anxious. Subsequently, she caught him discussing business issues and perhaps illicit acts over the phone. When Clara learned that her father was involved in dubious activities, she was astonished and upset.

Alexander then saw that she was staring. He walked up to her and furiously asked, “What are YOU doing here?” “Are you stalking me now, hoping to latch onto our so-called relationship for your benefit?”

Clara was surprised. “What? Not at all! Here, I am employed. sporadically. to pay for my education.”

Alexander sneered. “Come to work here? That seems like a really good reason to be close to me. You are aware that I frequent this place, right? You believe you can exploit me just because you may claim to be my daughter?”

“What? exploit you?” She shot back. “You don’t have my permission! I had no idea you were a regular at this eatery. I’ve done just fine being independent, and I will keep doing so.”

Alexander gave her a cruel look. “Are you also going to say you weren’t listening in on my talk and investigating my personal matters? Girl, pay attention! Keep your distance from me. You get it?”

“I wasn’t snooping around. I simply—”

Alexander stopped her before she could say anything further. “You exactly what? Did you anticipate finding some dirt on me? You realize that you are nothing? Only a menial waitress. The idea that you could even be related to me is absurd.”

Clara was severely stung by his remarks. Alexander didn’t care, though. He continued by making fun of her heritage as well as her diligence. “Comprehensive? You lack ambition. Not motivated. I did not give you my DNA.”

It was enough for Clara. She wasn’t as wealthy and well-known as he was, but that didn’t give him the right to treat her disrespectfully.

She confidently shot out, “Ambition isn’t about money or titles, SIR!” “It’s about fighting for what you believe in, no matter your job!”

She was mocked at by Alexander. “What do you know about ambition, serving tables?”

“I work here and am pursuing a degree. That’s my goal,” Clara declared resolutely.

“And you think that makes you equal to me?” Alexander scoffed.

“Equality is not at issue. It’s all about trying to get better. That’s worth more than any title, “clarified Clara.

Alexander brushed her off. “You’ll always be just a waitress to me.”

Glancing into his eyes, she exclaimed, “Maybe in your eyes, but not in mine!” “I don’t need your approval to prove my value; I am aware of it. And it doesn’t matter if I’m “of your DNA”—I’ll still accomplish my goals with or without your blessing.”

After saying that, she turned to go back to her work. Rolling his eyes, Alexander marched to his table. Patterson, a possible investor, showed up soon after.

Over dinner Clara watched as they talked business. “Business thriving, Alexander?” Patterson enquired.

“These days, “thriving” is a harsh word, but we’re definitely pushing the envelope and trying to grow. That’s why we’re meeting tonight,” Alexander answered.

Patterson laughed. Are you not always pushing the boundaries? That’s what makes you so admirable, Alexander. Your aspirations are limitless.”

Alexander sensed that this was the appropriate time. He began by saying, “Well, thank you for meeting me,” and then he presented his company concept. “Our platform is on the brink of reshaping the cryptocurrency market, offering unprecedented returns for those bold enough to be at the forefront.”

“Alexander, while the idea is interesting, the actual content piques my curiosity more. The cryptocurrency market is infamously erratic. How does your platform reduce the dangers that are inherent to it?” Patterson questioned.

As they spoke, Clara listened with apprehension. She questioned whether her father would benefit from this investment given the seriousness of the conversation. As if she gave a damn. Perhaps she did. A small amount. After all, he was her father. Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted.

He choked on his steak, Patterson. Clara hurried over to do the Heimlich technique, dropping the towel she was using to clean a cup. She moved quickly, and Patterson was OK.

As Clara took a step back to make sure the older man was okay, the restaurant burst into cheers and relieved whispers, giving her a minute to herself.

“How did you—where did you learn to do that?” Drawing her aside, Alexander questioned.

I’m a medical student in my second year. We’re prepared for situations like this,” she remarked.

Regaining his breath, Patterson thanked her. He said, “You saved my life!” from a distance. “Thank you, young lady.”

Clara smiled modestly at him. “Anyone would have done it,” she retorted. “Please take care.”

“Well, she’s my daughter, a medical student!” Patterson was informed by Alexander.

Then he looked up at Clara. “Clara, you accomplished an amazing feat. I was unaware that you were a medical student,” he said, attempting to be cordial.

With caution, Clara answered, “Well, er, thanks. I have strong feelings for it.”

“You truly are my daughter, you know that. I would like to help you. Additionally, your support might be helpful with Patterson,” he clarified.

It was beyond Clara’s belief. There was no shame for this man. Now he intended to leverage her for the investment.

She questioned him, “Are you using my education to benefit yourself?” “You can’t be serious!”

“See, it’s about taking opportunities,” he stated. “You help me, and I help you with your student loans.”

Clara refused to back down. “Well, I refuse to sacrifice my principles in favor of your plans. She said, “I’ll figure things out on my own,” turning down his offer and heading out to get the ambulance.

Alexander became enraged at her rejection and openly yelled, “You’re an idiot if you believe you can make it on your own! Without my assistance, you are nothing more than a simple girl pretending to be a doctor.”

He had no idea that Patterson was observing the conversation from his chair. He came to the conclusion that Alexander was the wrong man to collaborate with on a personal and professional level. As a result, Patterson declined to invest in Alexander’s company, but he did value Clara’s moral character and made an offer to pay for her schooling.

Clara was so appreciative. “I’m grateful, sir. Tears filled her eyes as she chirped, “I—I don’t know what to say.”

Patterson gave a kind smile. Just promise yourself that you’ll keep pursuing your goals with the same tenacity that you demonstrated tonight. You saved my life tonight, and as a doctor, you’ll go on to save a great many more.”

Alexander watched, frustrated, as Patterson and Clara continued their conversation for a few more sentences. However, nothing would alter. Alexander had no idea that this was only the start of his demise.

He confronted his karma as a result of his treatment of Clara and Patterson’s lost investment, which set off a series of events. His acts were soon discovered by the corporate community, damaging his reputation.

Investigating journalists discovered that his bitcoin platform was a fraud intended to enrich him at the expense of many others. Due to the evidence, he was charged, and his assets were placed under freeze. Once regarded as a visionary entrepreneur, Alexander was now despised by the community.

Clara was depressed at her father’s legal issues. Observing him suffer evoked only profound sorrow for the person he had turned into and the lives he had touched.

She couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if Alexander had followed his ethics instead of his greed. She learned a lesson from this incident as well.

It strengthened her resolve to lead a life characterized by integrity, compassion, and honesty. As he insisted on insisting, she wasn’t really Alexander’s DNA. Unlike him, she was neither avaricious, rude, or corrupt.
