Echoes of the Past: Uncovering Secrets in the Attic After Tragedy Strikes
“After Parents’ Death, Woman Arrives at Their Abandoned House and Hears Sounds from the Attic”
After returning to Utah to sell her late parents’ home, Stephanie fell asleep and heard noises coming from the attic. There was something startling up there in addition to the darkness and filth.
Stepping out of her car, Stephanie stretched her arms above her head and thought to herself, “Ugh, that was a long drive.” The eight-hour travel to Utah from Denver, Colorado, had not been easy. Although she could have taken a plane there, she preferred to bring her car in case she needed anything from the house.
Her duties included cleaning, supervising some repairs, and preparing the home of her deceased parents for sale. Years ago, after her father passed away, Stephanie brought her mother to Denver. However, the elderly lady passed away lately, and it was now appropriate to sell their deserted home.

Stephanie was prepared even though she was aware that it would require significant work before it could be listed. Fortunately, the area’s real estate values increased, so when it was finished, it should sell for a fair amount.
She got her bags and proceeded to the porch after opening her car’s trunk. She finally got the keys to jangle sufficiently to unlock the front door, albeit it took some effort.
The atmosphere was awful. The air smelled stale, there were cobwebs, grime. Nonetheless, every piece of furniture had been shielded from damage by blankets.
For some reason, the fridge appeared to be turned on and operating flawlessly. “The fridge must have been left on by Mom. She thought to herself, “The electricity bill must be enormous, and she wondered why the power company hadn’t turned it off. Later on, though, she would worry about that.

She made the decision to swap out the blankets in her old bedroom with the new ones she had brought. Her bed needed new linens if she planned to stay there for an extended period of time, as they were somewhat inviting thereafter. She thus lay there for a little while before fast asleep.
A few hours later, she woke up feeling sleepy. She had awakened up to something. A tiny cry could be heard someplace. But where, she pondered, and then there was a loud thump that forced her to glance up at the ceiling.
Old houses creaked from time to time, of course, but this was unusual. Up there was something, or someone. Despite her fear, Stephanie had to look into it. She whisked a flashlight out of her backpack and hurried upstairs to investigate.

She walked into the attic and said, “Hello?” into the air, hoping that no one would respond. “Is there someone here?”
She could hardly see anything because of the boxes and additional cobwebs everywhere. However, when she moved her flashlight around, a face turned and gave her a wide-eyed stare.
“AH!” she let out, and a baby began to cry.
“HELLO! PERSON PRESENT? She growled.
“Please keep quiet. Here I am. Suddenly, a woman’s voice exclaimed, “I’m here.”
In the middle of the attic, Stephanie eventually located the light switch and turned on the lamp. She was seated in one corner when she noticed a mother with a weeping infant in her arms.

“Who are you?” she questioned, her fear still holding her breath.
“My name is Sarah. Please don’t worry; I’m not hostile. But I beg you, please, don’t yell again,” said the woman.
Yes, you did frighten me. Hello, Sarah. Why are you in this place?” To avoid startling the infant again, Stephanie asked in a quieter tone.
Sarah got up from where she was standing in the corner and came over to Stephanie. Sarah tried to seem amusing as she said, “It’s a long story, but when my loser ex-boyfriend kicked me out, I basically invaded this house.”
“Oh.”
“This place was empty when I arrived. I have been residing here for some time,” Sarah went on.
“So you must have turned on the fridge?” Stephanie pondered.
“Yes, luckily, the electricity is still working just fine.”
“All right, good. Drop down. “I also mean no harm,” Stephanie said sweetly.
Stephanie looked around the kitchen downstairs and noticed a few teabags. Though outdated, they would still function. Sarah put the baby to sleep in a different room and sat across from her.
They had a lengthy conversation. Sarah filled Stephanie in on every detail of her life’s decline, particularly following the birth of her child. It seems that her lover no longer liked babies, so he tossed her out, leaving her with nowhere to go. Stephanie nodded, seeing the plight of the woman.
Sarah said, “I’ll head out tomorrow morning.”

Stephanie gave a headshake. “No, not at all. You are welcome to remain here. But I’d like to make you an offer. I’m selling this house, so I need to clean it up and bring it up to code. Would you please assist me? She said, “You can stay in one of the rooms with the baby, and I can pay you a little.”
Sarah thought, “That’s too generous,” as tears welled up in her eyes.
Really, it’s not. There is a great deal of work to be done here,” she joked in response. Sarah also became merry with her.
Sarah spent the next month assisting her in preparing the house. She was also skilled in repairs, particularly plumbing, which allowed Stephanie to save a ton of cash. After that, she was able to work from home remotely while assisting Stephanie with preparations thanks to a remote job.
But Stephanie chose to lease the house to Satah when it was ready. She came to the realization that she didn’t want to sell her parents’ house and she had whole faith in Sarah. She returned to Denver, where Sarah paid her on time each month.
