Moving On: The Bittersweet Transition of an 84-Year-Old Mom
“84-Year-Old Mom Announces She’s Moving to Nursing Home and Has to Sell House Her Kids Live In”
When the mother, who was 84 years old at the time, stated that she was going to sell their home and go into a nursing facility, she shocked her children tremendously. Now, however, it turned out that the nursing home was not the place where she had intended to relocate.
Edith Grey and her husband Terrence were the kind of parents who would do anything to make their children happy. Their lives revolved around their children, and they were the kind of parents who would do anything to make their children happy. The fact that their son Lewis and daughter Addison were never left out of anything is a natural consequence.
On the other hand, when the children reached the age where it was their responsibility to take care of their parents, they maintained the attitude that their parents were nothing more than a burden to them.

“Mom, stop pestering me all the time!” Edith was the recipient of Addison’s yells when she called her one day. I am now a member of a family! In addition, I am expecting a child. I don’t have the time to listen to your pointless babbling.
On the other hand, honey, I simply wanted to inquire about how you and Josh are today. My intention was not to—”
Is that true, mom? Put an end to your contrived displays of pity all the time! If you truly cared about us, you would not have placed us in this one-room condo without any other provisions. You and your father have the entire house to themselves, but have you ever given any thought to the possibility of inviting us to stay with you?
“However, Addison, you never bothered to inquire about it. My assumption was that you did not wish to reside with us. In point of fact, you were the one who was feeling the most eager to leave!

This occurred during the time that I was a student, mum. My children are currently under my care, and Josh and I are having a hard time making ends meet, so I would really like to move in there! Do you feel content at this moment? Clearly, I inquired about it!
Edith stopped and then, “Well, honey,” Due to the fact that she was aware of how strict her daughter was, she was uncertain as to whether or not it would be beneficial to invite Addison and her husband over. When she and Josh finally found a place in the house that was suitable for them, they would immediately settle in and never leave.
Edith, on the other hand, was concerned about her second grandchild, who was due in a few months, and she reasoned that even if Addison was a little demanding and spoiled, it wouldn’t be too much of a problem for her.
“Alright, Addison,” she said. “I know.” “I don’t mind if you want to move in here.”
It is very much appreciated. After giving her response, she picked up the phone and said, “I’ll talk to Josh tonight and let you know when we’ll be there.”
Later, Edith and Terrence had a conversation about what had transpired, and he expressed his satisfaction that Addison would be remaining in close proximity to them at this time. He gave her the assurance that everything would be OK and that they would be able to spend more time with their grandchildren and have a closer relationship with them.
“Don’t be concerned, beautiful. It is going to be all right!” he declared.

Edith, on the other hand, had a feeling that things wouldn’t turn out smoothly. Moreover, she was correct.
Terrence passed dead as a result of a heart attack two months after Addison and Josh moved into the house. There was a morning when Edith tried to rouse him up, but she discovered that he had gone to sleep. Nothing changed despite the fact that she cried her heart out. In light of the fact that Terrence had left, she would have to move on.
Edith experienced a great deal of loneliness following the death of Terrence; nevertheless, Addison and Josh did not do anything to cheer her up. It was impossible for them to inquire about her well-being or whether she required anything because they were so consumed with their own lives. Then, her son Lewis called her, and although he did not inquire about her health or anything else, he did convey that he missed her.
He answered, “Well, mum,” in response. My wife, Natasha, and I are making preparations to get married the next month. The members of her family hail from India, and they are really excited to finally encounter you. For my part, I am missing you, mum. Would it be possible for you to make some time for us this weekend?
The death of Terrence was still something that Edith was hurting over, but she consented to Lewis’ request in order to make him happy. The meeting between the two families went very well, and the subsequent wedding was planned to take place at a luxurious venue in Florida, which was Lewis’s place of employment. But a month after his wedding, he made a peculiar request to his mother. He wanted her to do something.

“Hey, mum,” he said to her with a phone call. Considering that I had to take a transfer, I was curious as to whether Natasha and I would be able to stay in my father’s old house. In light of the fact that Addison and Josh are already staying with you, that would mean that the house would become overcrowded. I really hope that place is not available for rent… To put it another way, if we could just move there, wouldn’t that be preferable to handing it over to a complete stranger?
Oh, well…that was the very first house that your father and I purchased together, and because of that, I’m not entirely sure if I want to rent it out. But what is the reason behind your sudden decision to transfer, Lewis? I was under the impression that you cherished Florida.
“Ugh, mum,” Lewis hesitatingly admitted. A few plans were in the works for us. It was Natasha’s dream to launch her own company, and in terms of my professional responsibilities—”
“You see, Lewis…” Upon hearing Natasha hush Lewis on the phone, Edith was about to say anything, but she was interrupted by him. After further investigation, it was discovered that he had been fired from his job, which was the reason why they intended to come back.
Edith had reached her limit with Addison and Josh, and she was prepared to decline what Lewis had to offer. However, if she did not comply, he would bring up Addison and Josh and cause a substantial amount of trouble, which she was unable to handle, so she gave in and agreed to the terms.
Natasha and Lewis had moved into their previous residence, and for a period of time, everything appeared to be going according to plan. Nevertheless, Edith had just finished giving birth when Addison gave birth.
In addition to the fact that she was 84 years old and continued to labour on the tiny farm that she and Terrence owned, she was also responsible for taking care of Addison’s newborn child. She had the impression that she was unable to deal with it any longer, and it was having an impact on her health. She told Addison and Lewis that she wasn’t feeling well and begged them to take her to the doctor.
Lewis responded with: “Sorry, mom, Nat and I are occupied with something, so we can’t. You better ask Addison and Josh!”
On the other hand, Addison and Josh had already declined her invitation, stating that they were going to attend a party hosted by a friend and that they would find time for it later. Edith made the announcement that she was going to move into a nursing facility after selling all of her possessions. This decision was made when she noticed that her children did not show any concern for her. During the course of supper, she made the announcement.
She said, “All right, children,” and then she disappeared. You should have learned how to stand on your own by now. It is past time. I am making this announcement because your mother has done everything she can, and I intend to sell the houses and move into a nursing facility where I will be cared for until God calls me home. I am doing this because your mother has done what she can. In any case, you are just concerned with your own comfort, and you have not made any considerations regarding your elderly mother. Now I have made up my mind on everything.”
Lewis chuckled to himself. “Oh, mom, really? Come on. Without a doubt, you are not being serious. You cannot imagine that we would leave in such a manner. You can be sure that there will be nursing homes that will take you in without charging you a fee. The houses do not need to be sold at this time.”
Edith glared at him aggressively. I beg your pardon! So who are you to make such a decision? I, Lewis, am the owner of the properties, and I have the authority to decide what I will do with them. Not only that, but Addison and Josh would also be leaving home. The responsibility of raising their children is theirs, and they must take ownership of it.
Addison retorted, “But mum,” in response. I don’t see how you can just tell us to leave. Due to the fact that we have nowhere else to go, I am accompanied by two little children.
Please, my dear. What’s giving you a headache? My decision has been made quite obvious. It is expected that your belongings will be packed up and transferred out by tomorrow morning. A few representatives have already been contacted, and they are going to be coming over.”
After the children had finished eating, they flung a number of cruel words at their mother because they were so angry over the decision that their mother had made. She had a fantastic plan set to teach her selfish children a lesson, but Edith did not budge at all. She was determined to teach them a lesson.

After a week had passed, Edith was ultimately successful in finding two purchasers for her two residences, and the money that they paid for them was pretty satisfactory. On the other hand, she did not use the money to take herself to a nursing facility. Instead, she went out and bought a condo in a new town that was located in the same neighbourhood as her friend Martha’s home.
Following Edith’s disclosure of the manner in which Addison and Lewis were behaving, Martha proposed that she relocate to her previous location. As a result of Edith’s belief that the concept was reasonable, she followed Martha’s recommendation.
Edith and Martha had a wonderful time together after moving into their new house. They relived the good old days by spending time together, which included going on shopping sprees, watching classic films and spending time together. Edith yearned for Terrence and her two grandchildren, but now that she was free from her troublesome children, she had a sense of happiness and relaxation that she had not experienced before.
