A Reddit user revealed that during a get-together, discoveries caused division in her family. Her ex-husband holds her accountable for the rift.

A female Reddit member, 49, just posted a narrative that has garnered a lot of attention. She explained her family’s dynamics at the beginning of her account, pointing out that separation and treachery had ruined her family’s existence.

The Original Poster (OP), a mother of three, was previously wed to 53-year-old Jake. Together, the ex-couple welcomed their daughter Kyle, 18, and their sons Karter, 21, and Knox, 25. Things went wrong when OP became pregnant with the couple’s third kid.

When Jake had an affair with Abigail, his much younger assistant who was a freshman in college at the age of eighteen, their marriage fell apart. The pregnancy resulted from the affair, and in the end, OP decided not to make amends.

Later on, Lizzie, Abigail’s daughter, was born. Consequently, Abigail and Jake’s marriage and the birth of two additional children were made possible by OP’s choice to divorce her children’s father, further complicating the family dynamic.

The author describes Jake’s minimal post-divorce involvement in the lives of their children, including his occasional visits and child support but not his regular, meaningful involvement.

“He paid child support but that was it and only [saw] them once a month,” she said. He would grant requests from the kids when they came to him, but he would not answer their calls until he realised their mother had intervened.

His estrangement continued to the point that he would only attend important events in the children’s lives when it was required by his own family.

Jake’s objectives appeared to be influenced by his mother and aunts, who are all well-known solicitors. OP disclosed:

“His family is not very deep. People will hold those who don’t have a prestigious position in low regard. Additionally, they will scold you for casting the family in an unfavourable light because gossip of any kind is frowned upon.”

When OP disclosed how Jake boasted to his family about his engagement in their children’s lives, despite the fact that the truth was glaringly different, the deceit of his actions became clear.

This façade remained in place until the reality was revealed by an inadvertent invitation to a family vacation. OP revealed that her sons and daughter were first offended when they saw their father taking family trips without them.

But over time, they came to accept it when Jake explained that his mother only allowed them to go on two family trips year, while Lizzie, their half-sister, only gets to go on one.

He revealed to his family, according to OP, that the reason the elder children didn’t want to travel. However, Kyle overheard Lizzie talking to her great-aunts about an impending vacation to the Dominican Republic during a family Christmas meal.

After explaining their departure, Lizzie added that their father had told her that Kyle and her brothers had already made preparations. However, Kyle clarified that it was untrue and expressed her desire to accompany her and her two elder siblings.

OP clarified that she has never felt secure enough to let Jake take the kids on a long-term trip without her. That’s why his wife Abigail was upset when she went on vacation with them. Since OP and her in-laws are still on good terms, there was no awkwardness.

Thus, at supper, the kids’ accomplishments and future goals came up. Everyone wished OP’s daughter well when she told her paternal grandmother that she had landed an internship at a tech business.

While their older brother Knox is enrolled in medical school, Kyle and her brother Karter attend a highly esteemed college. Everyone in attendance was shocked to learn that Lizzie was pregnant as a result of the conversation.

According to OP, “everyone’s face fell to the floor, including Jakes,” and their loved ones began to doubt Jake and Abigail’s parenting. When Jake realised how disappointed his family was, he tried to place the responsibility on Lizzie.

He went on to say that since his children from his first marriage have succeeded thus far, it is clear how well he raised them. But OP explained the situation after growing weary of the continuous falsehood.

“I was tired of the lies and explained how he was never there unless his family was there in order to look good in front of them,” she recalled. The disclosure caused OP’s daughter Kyle to publicly address her father’s neglect, which resulted in an emotional departure from the meal.

In reaction to the events of the evening, Jake accused OP of sabotage and blamed her for the discord within the family. In spite of the charge, OP chose not to pursue the matter any further, leaving it openly acknowledged yet unresolved.

She went to the Reddit forum and posted, “I do feel bad because it probably wasn’t the time or place,” acknowledging that she didn’t feel that way about how she handled the matter during the family gathering.
