The Unwelcome Visitor: My Mother-in-Law’s Attempt to Displace Me After Our Newborn’s Arrival

My Mother-in-Law Arrives to See Our Newborn, Tries to Get Rid of Me

Tom and Megan’s newborn, Lily, will be seeing her mother in town, and Megan can’t help but feel that their family will grow closer. Until Eloise gives her something that has the power to permanently alter both her and Lily’s lives.

It ought to be a spectacular first meeting for a grandmother and youngster. I had assumed it would be like that when my newborn daughter Lily met Eloise.

While Eloise is a sophisticated, upper-class woman, I’m just a young woman who adored her son. a young woman who spent her childhood switching foster homes. Although Tom had chosen me and fallen in love with me, I was aware that Eloise wanted more for him.

My mother-in-law, who moved to Europe when Tom was in college and never looked back, shows up at our door looking elegant and sophisticated. She refused to go at the time and even missed our wedding. We streamed the wedding live for her, and for hours thereafter, Tom had to answer all of her inquiries about the music and flowers.

Eloise hugged Lily and gave Tom a kiss.

Perhaps this is it, I considered. Perhaps this is our opportunity to truly bond as a family.

But Tom went to change Lily after she let out her dirty nappy cry.

“Megan,” with a broad smile on her face, Eloise drew me in.

Feeling as though I was heading into a trap, I followed her. After setting the kettle for herself, she led the way to the kitchen. Her mood changed faster than anything I’ve ever witnessed the moment she turned to face me once more.

My jaw drops when I see the envelope she hands me open to reveal a large stack of cash.

When I declined to take it, she said, “Here, $25,000,” and dropped the envelope on the counter.

“Hopefully, this will be sufficient to allow you and Lily to vanish. You know, Tom had a wonderful fiancée. Deborah. She came from a wealthy family and had a profession that enabled her to travel the world, making her the ideal match for my son. What will people think of us now, really? that you were pregnant when Tom married you? I’ve attempted to tailor that narrative to fit our needs, but it won’t work. Thus, I require your disappearance.”

I tried to remain composed. The only people I wanted to be with were Tom and Lily, so I turned around and headed to the nursery.

I told Tom everything when Eloise left for her hotel room after supper.

“This is unbelievable,” he exclaimed. “But Meg, I don’t want you to be concerned. Since the beginning, I’ve detested the way she has handled you.”

He handed Lily over to me so I could put her to bed.

“We’ll impart a lesson to her,” he uttered, his mischievous eyes gleaming.

I told Eloise over the phone before we went to bed that night that I would follow through on her crazy idea.

I muttered into the phone, “I’ll do it.”

“Are you serious? She sighed with relief and murmured, “Good girl.”

“But you must give me twice as much money. I need extra money so that I can give my child the best care possible. Alright?” Holding my breath, I spoke.

“All right, it can be scheduled. Tomorrow, let’s meet at a café. One is located just across from my hotel. We can work things out if you meet me there.”

She ended the call.

Tom and I loaded Lily into her car seat the following day, almost to the time I was meant to meet Eloise.

“You’re okay?” Tom enquired.

I gave a nod. We were prepared.

She was anticipating me when I got there, but she got Tom instead. She had a lovely expression on her face, I must say.

Tom removed the envelope from the table and gave her a stern look.

He said, “Thanks, Mom.” “Now, we have enough to invest in Lily’s education when the time comes.”

Eloise was stunned and simply stared at him as if he had a second head.

“So, you’re picking your wife over our family?” she growled while attempting to contain her anger.

He pushed his chair back and declared, “My wife is my family.”

Tom went back into the booth that Lily and I had been hiding in.

“No one,” he said, his gaze kind. “No one and nothing comes between us, okay?”

I gave a nod. since I genuinely thought he was telling the truth.

We suddenly realised that we were in this together. The fact that I lacked a fancy degree didn’t bother Tom. He loved me for who I was, regardless of the fact that I had been a traumatised foster child. Without Eloise’s money, we were financially secure, but we deposited it into Lily’s account.

I now understand that family isn’t always biological. Those are the ones who, in the end, pick you. Tom and I are now making jokes about Eloise and the whole thing. On reflection, though, I wonder what could have happened if Tom had taken a different approach to his retaliation.
