Abandoned Innocence: The Heartbreaking Tale of an 18-Year-Old’s Newborn Decision

18-Year-Old Girl Left Her Newborn Baby at the Hospital

Rosaline, who is eighteen, leaves her newborn boy at the hospital because she is afraid to raise him because of her background. However, three years later, she comes back to claim him. Is there still a chance for Rosaline to make apologies, or will fate not favour her this time?

Nancy was eager for her shift to be over. She was able to assist others through her work as a nurse, but it was also demanding.

She was sitting behind her desk, about to nod off when there was a huge bang.

Nancy winced, shot to her feet, and darted a glance at the dark figure standing at the hospital’s door.

That night, the outside weather was horrible. Thick sheets of rain fell, as thunder roared overhead.

As Nancy got closer to the door, the figure finally showed up: a pregnant, drenched-from-head-to-toe young woman.

“Oh god, are you OK?” Nancy hurried over to assist her.

In between long breaths, the woman said, “My-my water broke.” “I’m Rosaline.”

Nancy led Rosaline to a room and said, “Okay, I need you to relax, Rosaline.” While arranging for the delivery, she continued to speak with her and discovered that the pregnant girl was only eighteen.

“Young mommy, huh?” She grinned. “Relax—we’ve got you covered! Hurry up!”

For a few moments, the only sounds in the room were Rosaline’s screams and her laboured breathing, and then there was a loud cry. Rosaline was blessed with a healthy boy.

“Steven…”I’ll call him that,” Rosaline said, giving her infant her first embrace.

“After his father?” Nancy asked with a smile.

“No, not at all. “It’s a tribute to my friend,” Rosaline answered.

Nancy said, “Okay, Mommy and baby Steven, rest now.” “I’ll go finish the paperwork, and if you need anything, just press the call button, and I’ll come over, OK?”

The mother and son were left alone when Nancy exited the room.

When she went to check on them the following morning, she was shocked and gasped. Rosaline and her belongings were gone, but the baby’s cot was in its proper place.

Nancy moved cautiously over to the cot and saw an envelope next to the infant. When she opened the mail, she saw a message and a gleaming diamond fragment.

“Nancy, look after Steven for me. I had no choice but to part from him, but I shall return. The diamond is here for security. I’ll give you $100,000 and take Steven back when I get back. Don’t look for the truth or call the police. Please look after my son. Please.

Nancy recalled Rosaline’s offer as she glanced at Steven, who was soundly dozing on the cot. She reported his abandonment to the hospital administration, but she knew she couldn’t allow him to enter the foster system or find a new family.

Rosaline assured CPS that she would take care of him, and with much persuasion and documentation, she was able to obtain custody of the boy. She never told anyone about the gem or the money Rosaline had promised.

But Nancy found parenthood to be difficult. The hardest parts at first were changing poopy diapers and spending long, sleepless nights. The challenge of balancing work and parenting then arose. She would occasionally cry and condemn herself for taking on the role of parent.

But every time Nancy laid eyes on Steven, she found it impossible to look away from the handsome guy. As time passed, she grew to adore playing with and having him around, and eventually she found it impossible to picture living without him. Nancy was relieved when a year went by and Rosaline never showed up again. She did not need to be concerned about giving Steven up.

After a quick two years, Nancy had grown to love Steven as her own. She never gave the idea that he was adopted much thought.

She had planned Steven a tiny birthday celebration for his third birthday. She made his favourite chocolate cake and strung balloons and streamers throughout the living area.

She heard a knock on the door as she was taking the cake out of the oven.

She said, “Coming!” and opened the door, but her face went white. Nancy recognised the woman at her porch right away.

She blurted, “Rosaline?”

“Hey, Rosaline,” remarked to Nancy. “I apologise for breaking my promise. I was going to be back in a year, but…”

“What are you doing here?” Nancy lost her temper.

“Steven, my son…I am available to support him. Here,” She raised her purse. “$300,000. Here’s your $300,000; I promised you $100,000 for a year, but it’s been three years.

Nancy angrily said, “Rosaline, I don’t want any money.” “You can’t just abandon a child and then come back three years later as if nothing has happened.”

“You see, I…I get it. And I apologise really. Please give me a chance to speak. It’s understandable why it took me so long. Rosaline said, narrating her past.

A quarter of a century ago…

Rosaline had had enough of her chronic weariness and morning sickness. She had first written it off as a little matter. However, she had a disturbing thought and decided to purchase a pregnancy test kit.

Rosaline hoped the pregnancy test would come out negative as she closed the door behind her. When the kit displayed two lines, her heart fell. Rosaline became pregnant at the age of 17.

The idea that this pregnancy was the product of a one-night fling with a man she couldn’t even remember scared her. She couldn’t recall his face from the sleepover since she had been so inebriated. In addition, she disregarded her father’s prohibition against her going.

Rosaline wanted to convince herself that she was dreaming. However, it wasn’t. So she plucked up the strength to tell her parents the truth.

Her mother gave her a short hug as her eyes filled with tears. Her soft words, “It’s OK, honey,” calmed Rosaline’s anxious heart.

Rosaline’s heart sank at her father’s look. “Stow your belongings and leave my home! This family doesn’t need you, and I don’t want to see you.”

She attempted to beg him, “Dad.” “I…I was—”

He said, “I want to hear nothing from you!” “By morning, you should be gone from here!”

Rosaline was beyond description broken. She didn’t want to harm her father anymore, even if he had allowed her until the next morning. She packed up her things and departed the house that evening.

She spent the night in a motel using the little cash she had. She went looking for work the following morning. She was aware that her lack of a degree would prevent her from receiving an offer of employment that paid well.

For a period, Rosaline took on odd occupations to support herself. However, she was only able to pay for a meagre studio apartment and three meals a day with the money she made.

Rosaline was aware that, in light of her impending baby, she needed to look for better opportunities to improve her circumstances. And three months later, the chance came to pass.

She noticed a sign while she was passing an antique store. The words, “Need an employee,” appeared.

Her curiosity led her to enter.

A tall man with soft eyes and a pleasant demeanour was behind the counter. Steven was his name, he said. He started a conversation with Rosaline after realising how interested she was in the antiques.

“You seem interested in these,” he said, gesturing to the artefacts.

Rosaline gave a nod. “I’ve always found history fascinating.”

“Well, to be more precise, I’m searching for assistance around the shop. It is a respectable salary. Do you think that would be interesting? Steven enquired.

“Yes, sure!” Rosaline gave a little chirp.

Fantastic, then! Tomorrow is when you may begin.”

She always got aid from Steven, who was a nice man, when she got stuck. She got more adept at her work over time.

Rosaline was still concerned, though. Her only source of income was working for Steven. She needed more money for herself and her child than she was making. She was engrossed in such thoughts one evening as she closed the business, and then the entrance bell rung.

“Sorry, we’re closed…” She began, but when she glanced up at the entryway, her voice faltered.

“Raise your hands! Stay still and don’t yell!” At the doorway, a man in a mask was pointing a revolver at her. Glancing across the store, he quickly took expensive items and pocketed her while holding her at gunpoint. She considered pressing the alarm button that was tucked away under the counter of the store, but she changed her mind.

I promise not to call the police. Just go, please,” she urged him.

He glanced at her slyly and went back to grabbing. Rosaline exhaled with relief as soon as he was gone and set about gathering the treasures the burglar had overlooked. She secreted the treasure somewhere in the vicinity. She hurried to the store and set off the alarm.

Rosaline was only considering her unborn child at the time, even though she didn’t want to steal from Steven. After a few minutes, Steven’s store was encircled by police cruisers. She explained to the police that she was being held at gunpoint when she missed her opportunity to click the button earlier. The following day, she grabbed the opportunity to gather the loot and brought it home.

Rosaline’s remorse shot through her as she saw the devastation on Steven’s face as he listed the things that had been stolen from him. The value of the lost artefacts was $800,000. Despite everything, she told herself that she was doing it all for her child.

A few weeks went by. One day, Rosaline was working at the store when Steven came in, beaming.

With a smile, she said, “What’s the good news, Steven?” “You seem to be in a good mood!”

“Ah, we have to celebrate, Rosaline!” stated Steven. The robber was apprehended by the police. It seems that he had participated in other thefts within the town. They intend to search his home shortly. If they are unable to locate our lost belongings, our insurance will pay out.”

Rosaline’s emotions dimmed. Her pregnancy lasted nine months. Similar to the robber, she was also in trouble because the items she had taken were never going to be located at the robber’s house. The police would be suspicious. For the sake of her kid, Rosaline had committed enough sins. She had to make the difficult decision to leave her child behind because she could not bear the thought of endangering her life.

Today…

“I decided to leave him after realising I couldn’t raise my child in those conditions. But after all these years, I still miss him. I did what I did for him,” she exclaimed to Nancy.

Nancy shot back, “The ends don’t justify the means.” And in every meaningful sense, Steven has grown to be my son and my heartbeat over the last few years. I refuse to let him go, I can’t. Why do you not worry about the past anymore? of being discovered?”

“Over the past three years, I have eliminated all traces of it,” Rosaline disclosed. And Nancy, Steven is my child. my blood type. Really, do you believe you can keep a distance from us?”

Blood is not the only factor. It also involves attention and time. Please go from my residence now. You can’t take him away from me.”

Rosaline was determined to win Steven’s return. She walked out of the house, telling Nancy she would see her in court.

Nancy thought about the diamond Rosaline had given her and realised she couldn’t even bear to let Steven leave. All these years, she had protected the gem.

Driving to the police station, Nancy gave the detectives her word that she would testify as a witness to the crime, turned in the diamond as evidence of Rosaline’s theft, and filed a complaint.

The detective examined the diamond and informed her, “By tracking the serial number on the diamond, we can track her down and hold her accountable.”

Nancy only wanted to hear that. Feeling bad that she had to take such drastic steps to keep Steven safe from Rosaline, she departed the station.

Ultimately, though, she had only acted in Steven’s best interest.
